Long Tri-Fold Kneeboard
For the pilot who has a little more to juggle, ASA's Tri-Fold Kneeboard holds the expertly-styled VFR Kneeboard in a three-panel jacket.
This elongated 3-panel kneeboard accommodates aeronautical charts without
additional folding. The center section of the 3-panel cordura-like jacket holds
the included brushed aluminum kneeboard in place, while the two side pockets
offer storage for charts, notes, a flight computer, pencil, pen and more.
Quick VFR reference information is tooled into the brushed aluminum kneeboard
offering resources for weather and flight planning, VFR ceilings, visibility,
cloud clearance, cruising altitudes, pilot weather reports, light gun signals, a
crosswind component graph, and more. A wide, sturdy clip on the kneeboard holds
papers on place. The left inside panel of the jacket has two pockets for flight
plans and notes, as well as elastic straps for holding a flight computer or
other flight accessory. The right hand panel has a see-through pocket for easy
chart viewing and storage. The hook-and-loop fasteners on the elastic leg band
allow the kneeboard to adjust to a variety of leg sizes.
Kneeboard is 6-1/2" wide x 10-1/4" high.

- Review: I read a lot of reviews and almost didn't buy this kneeboard. After using it on a couple flights, it works well. Everything fits well. I'm 6ft, contrary to some reviews it is not too long and the strap is perfectly functional. Unless you are much shorter, it should work fine. Most of us will only use it until we have our license and upgrade to a tablet. It should work well until then.

Standard ASA kneeboard, just longer. Just holds sectional or enroute charts in side-access pockets, if they're folded precisely. Sloppy folding won't fit. Short people may find the extra length inconvenient; I'm 5'11" and it pretty much covers my thigh, almost to the point of awkwardness with the tri-fold. Buy if it fits a specific need, otherwise stick with standard.
VFR kneeboard, I'd have bought IFR if available.

A: The text is printed onto the kneeboard and cannot be changed. However, you could also purchase the IFR Kneeboard and swap them out.

A: This particular kneeboard doesn't have any rings built into the kneeboard. We do have the Ultimate Kneeboard Fixed Ring or the Ultimate Kneeboard Loose Ring that has rings. Or, the Jeppesen IFR Three-Ring Trifold Kneeboard.

Q: The width is listed 6.5", presumably outside dimension. I'd want to put things a full 6.5" wide in the left pocket, such as checklists and approach plates in sheet protectors. Is this possible and still fold closed without bending the edge of my contents?
A: This has about 6 inches of usable space in the right pocket.

Q: Does the aluminum kneeboard have the leg band, so it can be removed and used separately?
A: No, the leg strap is connected to the three-panel jacket and cannot be removed. The Clip board is removable from the jacket but you will need to provide your own leg strap.

Q: I purchased an ASA KB-3 from MyPilotStore last week. Sectionals do not fit in the map pocket. Can I return this KB-3? Do you have a tri-fold that fits a standard Sectional?
A: Hi Joe, I have emailed you instructions for returning the KB-3 kneeboard. We do offer a Long Tri-Fold (KB-3L) that gives extra length for the charts. We generally recommend you only consider the KB-3L if you are at least 6' tall otherwise people tend to find that it gets in the way of the controls because of the extra length.
