Wouldn’t trust it.

  • By A Customer from Van Nuys on Friday, July 29, 2022
  • Pros: Small
  • Review: While on the ground, it worked great. As soon as I was airborne, all the traffic disappeared… just doing pattern in the middle of the city, to try this out, the traffic would disappear every few minutes and re appear for a couple of seconds…. I wouldn’t trust it at all. Returning this product.

simple and effective

  • Review: I found this to interface effortlessly with foreflight and iflygps. Super portable.

Pretty good!

  • By Chicken Little from Great Falls VA USA on Friday, April 15, 2022
  • Pros: Dirt simple. Works like a champ with ForeFlight. Super portable.
  • Review: I fly in the crowded airspace of Leesburg, VA where the SFRA forces all arriving and departing aircraft into a very narrow corridor which increases exponentially the chance of a mid-air collision. I needed this when I fly airplanes without traffic capability, and it works like a champ with my iPhone and ForeFlight. I use a cell battery pack for the Ping and wedge it between the dash and windscreen. The only issue I have noted is that the Ping does get fairly warm during operation, and can sometimes stop receiving a signal. A quick unplug and replug of the battery pack fixes it instantly.

  • Pros:
  • Review: Works perfectly with my IFly740B. Plugged it into the USB port of the 740B, selected Ping on the 740B wifi network setting, and it was operational.

Perfect low cost traffic awareness solution for my 61 Champ 7FC .

Works like a champ!

  • By Kailua Kid from Leesburg, VA on Wednesday, October 27, 2021
  • Pros: Effortless and tiny.
  • Review: Super small and super easy. I had it up and running in under a minute. I use this in aircraft that lack an ADS-B in capability -- like the Cessna Skycatcher -- so that I can see traffic in the densely congested area around DC's Leesburg Executive airport where the SFRA seemingly converges all incoming and outgoing traffic into a single mile wide corridor. Its only a matter of time until there's a mid-air there, and I don't want to be that guy. Ping helps me to avoid that tragedy in waiting.

Inexpensive and Effective

  • By Aaron from Algona, IA USA on Monday, June 07, 2021
  • Pros: Small/discreet, simple to connect and use
  • Review: One must remember - this is Traffic ONLY and does not receive the full suite of ADS-B data products such as Weather. That said, I ferry a wide range of aircraft and many are Day VFR only with heavily limited instrumentation. This is a great economical solution that can pack away anywhere and offer Traffic input.

Inexpensive and Effective

  • By Aaron from Algona, IA USA on Monday, June 07, 2021
  • Pros: Small/discreet, simple to connect and use
  • Cons: Doesn't work well unless near a window - especially with carbon fiber aircraft. Does *better* with aluminum aircraft. As long as it isn't surrounded by carbon/metals/etc and is near a Plexi/Lexan window; you're good.

11 QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

  • Previously Asked Questions

  • Thursday, December 07, 2023

Q: How much power does it require. E.g. with a USB power pack of 10,000 mAh how long would it work?

A: The pingUSB has an input voltage of 4-6V and current is 150mA.  Since USB typically operates at 5V, we''ll use this as our voltage value. The current is given as 150mA, which is 0.15 Amperes. A USB device, with a power requirement of 0.75 Watts, would be able to operate for approximately 66.67 hours when powered by a 10,000 mAh (or 50 Wh) USB power pack. This is under the assumption that the device consistently draws 150mA at 5V and the power pack delivers its full rated capacity.
