The Clarity Aloft headsets employ patented Comply(TM) Canal Tips, composed of soft viscoelastic foam, the same foam tips used in advanced hearing aids. The Earpieces
The Clarity Aloft earpieces are used to improve both hearing protection and speech communications. Each earpiece includes a miniature speaker that reproduces speech signals from the aircraft audio system. The replaceable compliant foam tips (Comply(TM) Canal Tips) which attach to the earpiece contain a pathway for the sound to travel from the transducer to the ear. Used by the military for helicopter pilots, both components of the earpiece, the transducer and Comply Canal Tips, have been tested, used rigorously and meet the most exacting military standards.

Replaceable Foam Tips
The superior seal is achieved with our patented Comply(TM) Canal Tips, which are used in high-end hearing aids. These viscoelastic foam tips provide the highest level of hearing protection available by any method including active noise reduction. (ANR) The outstanding noise reduction (35-45dB) in the speech frequencies between 400 to 4,000 Hz results in unsurpassed clarity of voice communications. Resembling foam earplugs, the foam tips are so comfortable because they are compliant to the shape of the ear. Considerable sound science history backs up their impressive performance. The Noise-Cancelling Microphone
The noise-canceling microphone used in the Clarity Aloft Headset is a high fidelity noise canceling Electret Condenser microphone with performance optimized for speech frequencies in extremely high noise environments. Stage performers and musicians use this same microphone because they must insist on the highest level of sound reproduction.

Music Input
The Clarity Aloft Stereo Headset is also equipped with a music input in the volume control box that will accommodate most music devices through a 1/8 inch plug. Be sure that the volume of the music device is set at minimum before connecting to the headset.

Frequently Asked Questions about the TSO Version
Why is TSO Certification being required for headsets used in commercial aircraft?
A major airline manufacturer was concerned about the lack of standard specifications for headsets used in their aircraft. This manufacturer issued a requirement to users of their aircraft to use only FAA TSO certified aviation headsets.

How have the airlines responded?
Several airlines, including Southwest and UPS now require the use of only FAA TSO certified headsets in their aircraft and most other airlines are expected to follow that recommendation.

Why is TSO so important?
To certify a headset to FAA TSO standards, the headset manufacturer must demonstrate the consistent performance of the headset over a wide range of conditions including high altitude, temperature extremes, electrostatic discharge immunity, and varying electronic environments found in aircraft. Only headsets that are designed to meet these standards consistently and are made in an FAA approved facility receive this TSO certification. The FAA also performs ongoing inspections of the manufacturing facility to ensure that the highest standards are being maintained. This extensive testing provides assurance to the pilot that the headset will consistently perform in the very demanding environment of commercial aircraft.

Why is the Clarity Aloft Pro Aviation Headset better than an ANR TSO headset?
FAA "Information to Operators" cautions operators about the use of Active Noise Canceling Headsets in airline cockpits (InFO 07001 Dated 1/5/07) "While Active Noise Canceling technology can have many beneficial effects, electronic attenuation of important environmental sounds and alarms may occur." Because ANR circuitry is effective primarily for low frequencies and pure tone sounds, the FAA is concerned that use of ANR headsets may prevent pilots from hearing important warning sounds such as stall warning horns, gear up warnings, and other audible alarms. The Clarity Aloft Aviation Headsets eliminate noise by blocking unwanted noise from being heard, but do not selectively reduce warning sounds and other important environmental sounds.
