The sizing is accurate - order your suit jacket size; if you intend to wear bulky clothes underneath, you may need to order a size up, but regular shirts or very light sweaters should work fine with normal sizing.

This is the REAL USAF A-2

- Review: I read reviews stating it needs larger pockets or roomier armpits, or it's too heavy. HELLO ! People, this is the real A-2 issued jacket for the USAF in the 21st century!!! If you expect big pockets and armpit room for an out of shape desk jockey, then go buy a fashion jacket that resembles an A-2 !! This is the real deal!! None are better as far as being worn by a jet jockey ! I flew F-16's for 21 yrs. The jacket that was first re-introduced was closer to the WW2 A-2. But, the current A-2 is designed for that purpose! It's trim, jet cockpits are not roomy ! lol Having baggy pockets would be a hazard for a number of reasons. As I said, if you want a real military A-2 buy this one !! If you want a fashion type, buy a non-mil A-2 designed for desk jockey's. Nothing wrong with those !! But some of the reviews I read were upsetting to me because this very A-2 survived a Mach 1 ejection , if it were "roomier" I would've snagged something on the way out and been buried.

- Review: First off, let me say that wearing an A2 jacket makes a very bold statement. Especially when you consider all the pilots who gave thier lives to defend us wearing thier own. I keep that in mind every time I wear mine. Now, this A2 is definately very well made. The leather is soft and very comfortable. The lining is a heavy cotton like material that breathes very well. The overall construction is excellent with very nice stitching and attention to detail. The zipper is solid brass and appears to be of medium to heavy construction. I've worn it in cold weather down to 25F with long sleave shirts underneath and it provides good warmth. I fly a 172 and the jacket isn't too bulky so it wont be a problem in other GA aircraft with limited space. It works very well on the ground and in the air.

- Review: Great jacket, great price, great buying experience. I've always been a bit apprehensive, about purchasing clothing over the internet for obvious reasons. Having once been an ad agency art director, I know how photography can make things look better than they actually are. However in this case the jacket in person out does the photograph. The high end goat skin leather, the quality of construction and of course the authentic styling make this the perfect leather jacket in my opinion. My wife won't believe I actually used the word perfect because I can be very picky (as most old art directors probably are). Now some reviewers have criticized the depth of the hand warmer pockets and the zipper. I wear a size L-XL glove and I can slide my hand in the pocket past my wrist on my size 48 jacket. As for the zipper, at first glance it may look a little small but it works just fine. All in all, I placed my order towards the end of one week and the jacket I spent years looking for arrived at the beginning of the next week. Again... perfect.

As I am getting a little long in the tooth I and wanted a “looser fit” I ordered it 2 inches larger than my measured chest. I am just at 6 feet and like a jacket that is a little below the waist so I ordered a “tall” size. The jacket fits just as I was hoping. The quality of the leather is very high and the dye is completely even over the jacket. The weight of the leather is a bit heavier than I thought sheep skin would be but as far as I know I have not had one before. It is quite a bit lighter than cow leather though. The lining is light weight which is what I was hoping for and actually well suited for the cockpit. I agree that you can order your “normal” size and it will be fine…If like me you are carrying a bit more around the waist 2 inches would work out great as well.

The A-2 jacket was designed for and worn originally by pilots during WWII as protection against the cold temperatures experienced at high altitudes. It is probably the best jacket ever designed.
I have worn many versions of the A-2 jacket over the years and have never found any others to beat the A-2 type of jacket.
I have owned an A-2 leather jacket for many yrs and this Cockpit jacket is far better than the older one.
Prior to getting this one from My Pilot Store, I received an A-2 leather jacket from another source and had to return it as it had a number of faults.
The civilian leather version made by Cockpit has two flap pockets, two interior pockets, and two pockets for pens/pencils which make for great convenience. Most leather A-2 jackets I know of, don't include the second interior pocket or the pockets for pens.
The back is made from one piece of leather rather than 3 pieces like most leather A-2 I've seen and the lining uses what appears to be a very durable material again unlike other jackets.
The materials and workmanship are of high quality which means the jacket will last for decades while retaining its fit and good appearance.

I felt it was time to buy another A-2 jacket since my old one is 27 years old. The A-2 I received was as advertised. The goatskin leather appears to be of good quality and the rich leather smell had my bedroom smelling like a leather shop for a week or two; I loved it! I had occasion to wear it a few times before our Florida weather began to turn warm again and the comments I got from fellow workers was overwhelming. The squeak of the leather, the nice dark brown color and the leather smell permeated the work area with no complaints.
Aside from the way it wears looks and smells, it would appear that even with wearing apparel, the economic crunch is felt and seen. This jacket is lighter in weight that my other and the lining is much thinner, making me think that this A-2 was made more for fashion than practical use. When compared to my old A-2, the goatskin is lighter in weight and the lining is considerably thinner. My older one has a "cross sewn", slightly padded nylon lining than seems to offer more warmth on cold damp days. This new one required a sweater or sweatshirt to be worn underneath where my old one would have me sweating in forty degree weather if I wore anything other than just a long sleeve shirt.
Aside from that, the jacket fit perfectly and there were no rips or tears and mypilotstore.com did a great job packaging for shipping. I would certainly recommend buying from mypilotstore.com to all of my friends.

I ordered a 42 and the size was perfect for me. I am 6' 0" and about 180 lbs. The waist band and cuffs are of high quality and seem to me will last a good while. The leather is goatskin and manufactured by CockpitUSA, U.S.A. made, and superior quality. I had a Navy G-1 years ago when I was in the military and it was not as nice as this. Very pleased!

You have to have had a terrible experience with a poorly designed product in order to deeply appreciate just how much thoughtfulness, and consideration went into the manufacturing process of this jacket. The knitted cuffs, and the knitted waist that add untold layers of protection on cold, and windy days is superb.
The single cut design of the back of the jacket (one piece) is not (in my opinion) available with any other jacket out there. One less large seam to stress over while riding your favorite machine on the highway on a brisk day.

Customer service was quite helpful when I called for help in sizing. I have about a 45 inch chest, and he recommended a 46. Got it, put it on, it fits like it was made for me. I wanted one of these A-2 jackets for a number of years. I'm glad I got it from My Pilot Store. Cockpit still has a contract with the government for the manufacture of these jackets, and I'm glad I was able to get the genuine article. It's warm enough to wear in winter, if you have a shirt and sweater under it. It's certainly warmer that a fabric windbreaker. It does what it's supposed to. After all, a pilot didn't go up on a cool day wearing only a tee shirt under his jacket! Love it

- Review: I've been wearing leather jackets for more than 40 years, beginning with my dad's Korean War flight jacket. I've had some good ones, but this is the awesomest leather jacket I've ever worn, maybe because it fits the (pilot) mission so well. I ordered what may be a size too large (I think I'm a 42, probably a 43, but I ordered a 44), and it fits well. By "well", I don't mean that it's form fitting, rather a bit loosed, casual: I can get a sweater or fleece underneath with no problem and I have the same ease of movement as I would in a t-shirt, which is to say perfect. And as you know, in a cockpit, that's a big deal. It's not a warm jacket, I don't fly with it during the deep Northeast winter. I expect it'll be nice in temps above freezing.

I am pleased to have served and had this same jacket issued to me as an Aeromedical Evacuation Technician while serving in the Air Force at Rheine Main Air Base Germany (1984-1989). I continued to wear it past my retirement in December 2001. Unfortunately it was stolen from a local bar in Seattle Washington in 2005.
In review of all of the reviews that you have posted I am delighted to see that for those reviews that had complaints about the jacket, their concerns were the same as all of the active duty that had the jacket issued to them. Ironically no one complained because they all knew that the manufacturer followed specific Air Force specifications. It was not designed for comfort or for fashion. It was made specifically for technical requirements.
What I did find was that as you wore it, those little issues most likely fade away. Just like a good pair of jeans that are stiff when new, just get better with wear!
The reviews indicate to me that the manufacturer has chosen to stick with the original design.

The UPS guy just drove up and I was outside anyway so I just opened the box and tried it on before he even left my street.
It replaces my old A2 copy, which I had for years. My wife bought me the old one and there was a no return policy (different vendor). I had to have a couple things modified to make the old one close to right. It had a difficult to repair seam fail and I decided to see about a new one.
This is the real deal, I love it, the liner quality is so much better than the old coat of mine. There is no seam running down the middle of the back and across the back like the old one. Comfort is great and the smell I could only wish would last forever.

This is my second A2 in 22 years when I've gone from a 44T to 48Tall (which is slightly oversized for me) but I use it a lot when travelling and have room to layer with sweaters as i fly between climates from 0 F to rainy 70F.
My only concern was that the zipper seemed a bit light/thin for such a heavy duty jacket but it looks like it will survive . Of course the new jacket was a bit stiff but after beating it on the floor a few times and sleeping in it on long flights to Asia/Europe it is becoming a second skin like my first one. I have a bunch of various North Face jackets which are fine but too delicate for many conditions I'm in. This A2 is indestructible however and a keeper.

Just received my A2, I served 9 1/2 years in USAF as a non-pilot and was always jealous of them when they'd come in wearing these jackets. Glad to finally have my own! On with the review:
I'm 6'2" and while I can usually find clothing that fits well off-the-rack it's nearly impossible to find jackets in stores that fit well. I've had an A2 style jacket that I've worn for years and like most jackets I've worn it's slightly short in the sleeves and waist and unless I stand perfectly still I get a draft on my wrists and lower back. I ordered a 46 Long (tall) from this site and the jacket fits perfectly! It fully covers my arms and waist in my full range of motion without excessive bunching, it's almost as if the jacket was made for my hiegth. My chest is 45" so the 46 sits on my shoulders perfectly, unlike standard size jackets (S, M, L, XL, etc) that have excessive material bunching at the shoulders (and I have large shoulders).
It's fairly stiff a the moment but it should break in nicely. My only complaint is that the side entry pockets are too small for my hands to be comfortable, but since AF regulations typically bar you from putting your hands in pockets this issue is likely a result of AF specs placed on the manufacturer.

I'm 6'6" / almost 300 lbs with a size 50 /52 waist and about a 51" chest. I thought a 54 Tall was going to be too big.....nope....It fits perfect with normal , non bulky clothing and is plenty long enough. If I wanted to wear a sweatshirt under it, would be a tight fit.
The YKK zipper is good quality, but needs careful breaking in. A little rough getting started and pulling apart...I bought some Star Brite zipper lube and did the zipper.....better now....

The tailoring cost was $200 since the zipper had to be shortened to accommodate the narrowing of the waist band. For a jacket that I expect to get a lot of use from and should last the rest of my life, investing in a proper look and fit is worth it.

This one seems too large and has a tendency to poke the back of the neck, particulary when seated. The hanging loop is a bit of a useless detail, and I think it should be eliminated.

- Review: As a WWII Re-enactor, I chose this particular model because of the side entry pockets and the interior pockets (more room to stash personal, non-period correct items). The jacket is very comfortable to wear. I took my chest measurement with a heavy sweater on and ordered a 42. It fits perfectly...over a sweater. While wearing it over a T-shirt, it is big. The description says it's cut with a little extra room and to order one's normal size. My advise is to consider what look and fit you're going for and what you will most often wear it over. Another slight issue is the color. It really is the color pictured; dark chocolate brown. Sort of the same color as an officer's 4 pocket tunic.

This is a very nice jacket. Workmanship is good. It looks great! The issue I have is with the pockets for the hands. I have large hands... size 12 gloves. The pockets are way to small for my hands. And, they are too far back. They are not comfortable for me to reach. I have other leather jackets where the pockets are larger and my hands just naturally go into the pockets.
Everything else is great. The fit was right on. I measured 47 inches... ordered a 48 tall and it fits very nicely. I like the way the sleeves feel. There is plenty of room inside the jacket without it being loose.
I'd recommend trying one before buying if you're able. The pockets may not be an issue for you.
MyPilotStore did a great job of keeping me informed and provided excellent customer service when I made a change in glove sizes.

Heavy stiff leather which probably would have softened had I kept it. The jacket is as described on the product page and looks nice. Overall was a nice jacket except for what turned out to be a fatal flaw - the hand warming pockets are just too small and the stitching began to tear after only a couple of weeks. I play guitar and know my hands are average size, maybe even a bit smaller.
The only other negative was that the lining is cloth and not satin so the coat tends to pull your long-sleeved clothing along with it when you put it on. Not a big deal though.

I can't put a small pair of leather gloves in the side pockets. The inside pen pockets are too deep. Put a pen in there and you will be using your leatherman to get it out.
