Everyone's Gonna Need This

  • By Doug from Boerne TX USA on Monday, April 10, 2017
  • Pros: Does supp data as well as Garmin aviation data
  • Cons:
  • Review: Garmin is now offering the data for the 400/500 series units. They priced the Aviation data bundles with the Ostacles and Terrain for less than J-brand. You will need this programmer to program the cards from FlyGarmin.com.

Works great

  • By William on Wednesday, October 07, 2020
  • Pros: Easy to configure - save bucks on chart subscriptions for the average Private Pilot
  • Cons: May take a couple of tries the first time if a Jep programmer had been used for 14 years. LOL
  • Review: Previous owner used the Jep programmer for the G 430W. The databases from Garmin are a much better deal for my flying. Before ordering I did call Garmin Support and was assured switching to the Garmin Programmer wasn't going to screw up my data cards. Had to load the data twice on the first round of updates but after that - "took" first time. First use in the Garmin itself - thought there was going to be a problem reading the card. Turned off unit, reinserted the card, and on second try .. success. No problems since. So, if you have a problem initially, do try again. Happy I got this unit - saving big dollars on chart subscriptions.

Great tool

  • By Teresa on Tuesday, December 19, 2017
  • Pros: Works as advertised!
  • Cons: None
  • Review: This programming tool works on both the terrain and database cards for the Garmin. I was worried I would have to buy two different cables, but that wasn't the case. Yay!

  • By Paul from Phoenix AZ USA on Wednesday, July 26, 2017
  • Pros: it works
  • Cons: none other than the cost of the annual subscription to update database ... wow
  • Review: The programmer works to keep the aviation database on the Garmin GNS530 up to date.

Seems to be specific to Garmin cards

Works great on Win10, but only on PC; won't work on Mac w/Fusion

  • By Chris from San Carlos CA USA on Thursday, May 24, 2018
  • Pros: Works as promised
  • Cons: None for a PC - won't work on Mac running Fusion
  • Review: The product works as promised on Windows 10 PC.

However, also as noted, can't work on Windows 10 on a Mac running VMware Fusion. The USB drivers don't seem to work, for whatever reason, and this is something Garmin says on its website as well. As a long-standing Fusion user, and someone who gets everything USB to work on the Mac, this is the first product I've seen that really does NOT work under Fusion.

So if you have a PC, buy with confidence. If you only have a Mac, better find a PC before you buy.
