"Since I first began taking flying lessons, I have used William Kershner's wonderful Flight Manuals - from his "Student Pilot's Flight Manual" to his "Flight Instructor's Manual." I love the way Mr. Kershner makes fun and interesting reading of sometimes-dry subjects. His books are easy and fun to read and filled with all of the best information! I continue to recommend his books to anyone learning to fly, and have bought quite of few of them over the years to give to aspiring pilots. I cannot think of any other books on aviation that I would recommend more highly than William Kershner's Flight Manuals."

  • Pros: Written by a pro, and easy to understand by the student
  • Review: I have used Kershners earlier editions, and great for the basics. I was disappointed that it was not updated with information on GPS navigation and approaches. I think the ADF section could be eliminated (yes I know Alaska and Canada still use them) and be replaced with some information on glass cockpits and the ADS -B technology. This is still a great book for instructors to use.

Excellent guide

  • By John from Phoenix AZ USA on Thursday, July 11, 2013
  • Pros: Easy to read.
  • Review: Easy to understand guide for CFI's that should be complemented with the Advanced Pilot's Manual which for me is a "must have".

Another Kershner hit. Very thorough.

  • By B.C. from Newport Beach CA USA on Saturday, March 24, 2012
  • Pros: The book teaches an instructor how to actually teach....very well.
  • Review: There are lots books to help a pilot pass the CFI course, but very few that teach a pilot how to instruct effectively. Even as a 17,000 airline captain and former Air Force instructor pilot, I figured I could use a little help in teaching the basics the civilian way, and this book was exactly what I was looking for. You can't find a better instructor than Kershner. I remember reading some of his excellent books early in my flying career, so I knew this one wouldn't let me down. Each topic is covered from numerous angles including the students view, the instructors view, and even the engineers view. This combination gives one a very good understanding of the topic and how to go about teaching it.
