I can't rate battery life as we keep it plugged in while flying. Overall, a big step up from the high-maintenance 150s.

We operate with a crew of two sometimes three. All crew have ipads with JeppFD. Even the crew near the crew rest area or the forward galley can keep abreast of the aircraft's position via the strengths of the XGPS160. This unit is very fast to align and faster data updates compared to the older model. So great to have one unit that can take care of all of the ipads at once.
One wish would be for a 17 hour battery. One of our older GV's does not have AC plugs near the cockpit.
The other grips is the the LED's on this newer unit are far too bright. At night it seems to be damaging. But, the XGPS160 works fine in its rubber non skid housing upside down to hide the status lights at night. Speaking of night, the XGPS160 Ipad application could use a night mode or just not be all White!

Fast, accurate, great receiver sensitivity... when it works

Quick to setup, capture and align in adverse conditions (indoors, tile roof, partial view of the sky). Works with XGPS150 status tool, GPS enabled iPad/iPhone software capable of simultaneously pairing with 5 devices. Accuracy on par with aircraft systems (A330). Great sensitivity when carried in my pocket while navigating through city streets. In this case it was usually within a block of my actual location and would steadily improve it's accuracy when stopped. Unfortunately, it quit acquiring satellites. The GPS would no longer "search" for signals as displayed on the Dual status tool. Over the course of two days, the bluetooth failed and the unit would shut itself off in a little over a minute.

But as soon as you launch your navigation application it does reconnect and works fine. - Review: I plan on using this on our boat for daily navigation but haven't yet tried it, so as for the battery life I can't respond to that except to say that I think I'll have the 160 plugged into a usb port for constant power anyway... As far a connecting to devices... I have 3 iPads which connect right away. I have one MacBook Air and one Lenovo PC. I've found out that the Mac will connect to the 160 and then disconnect within 30 seconds... if I then start my Nav. app it reconnects and stays connected....On the PC it does the same exact thing..... One other thing about the PC is that I don't have bluetooth built into the PC. I use a little usb bluetooth dongle which works great and it's made by Targus.

mypilotstore gives great service. The vendor that markets the XGPS160 not so much.
On 10/10/13 I emailed their tech support with the following; In looking through the FAQs for the XGPS160 several references are made to the SkyPro app yet no such app exists for Android on Google Play. Do you have an Android version available? How do Android users check their firmware version and update if necessary?
On 10/16 they replied with, We will have the app but it's under construction and we will need more time. I replied asking for an answer to my second question regarding firmware updates for Android users to which they replied on the following day (literally) Thank you and will be able to do the update when the app is available unless you want me to check and see if the unit is shipped back if one of guys can have it done.
So basically after waiting 7 days for a complete reply the best they have to offer is a non-committal answer about an app that is somewhere in development and if you happen to be an Android user you will have to ship the device back to them just to find out if you are using the latest firmware.

Problems with Data Loggin

- Cons: Operation seems flakey. It would be nice to have a USB windows app so that I could directly access the GPS tracking data.
- Review: I've had the Dual XGPS160 since mid January. My plan was to use it with Foreflight. I used it hiking with the log feature as a test and it seemed to work just fine. I then used it in the car and it worked fine, displaying a moving dot on the iPad map. I then tried it with Foreflight in the car. After about 30 minutes Foreflight locked up. The only way I could clear this was by rebooting my iPad mini. Note this is a Retina with the latest update. I took the GSP unit with Foreflight on a flying trip of about 120 nautical miles. The unit seemed to work flawlessly. But on the return trip, Foreflight locked up. Fortunately I had a secondary GSP unit with moving map, so I continued with that. To get Foreflight running again, I had to reboot the iPad. Maybe this is a Foreflight problem, but I am also having a problem with the Dual XGSP160. Sometimes the iPad app shows that it is up and running, but when I access the Trip page, it doesn't read the trip log, it just sits there doing nothing. The only way to fix this is to turn off the Dual unit and then turn it back on. Also, the DUAL FAQ says that you can turn logging on and off by hitting the power button 3 times in succession. When I first got the unit, I verified this and it worked. Now when I hit the button 3 times, the Log light fails to turn on or if on fails to turn off. However, I can turn the Log light on or off via the Dual iPad app. I am suspicious that this DUAL XGPS 160 unit has a problem, since it doesn't operate as advertized. Also, on two other related questions about the unit, I contacted DUAL via their email address on two separate occasions. I have yet to get a reply, so I am concerned about their customer support. It is looking more and more like this was a bad purchasing decision.
