ASA Private Pilot Test Prep Book

Private Pilot Test Prep

All Private and Recreational Pilot questions arranged by subject into chapters with Answers, Explanations (for correct and incorrect answers) and Reference Codes for Airplane, Rotorcraft, Glider, Lighter-Than-Air, Powered Parachute, and Weight-Shift Control so you know which questions to study for your specific test. Helpful test instructions, tips, cross-references, and more included. 376 pages.

The leading resource for FAA Knowledge Exam preparation for over 55 years. ASA continues to produce the best books available to prepare students for all the exams:

  • FAA Computer Testing Supplement is bundled with every test book so you will become accustomed to referring to the FAA Figures and Legends as you will during the test. This is the same book you will be issued at the testing center.
  • The FAA tests are on a one-year cycle, with changes made up to 3 times a year. We make sure you have the most current information by publishing the books in July of each year, and posting updates on the ASA website that show changes made to the test questions.
  • ASA's Test Preps contain the FAA questions and answer stems — plus answers, explanations (for both correct and incorrect answers), references, and FAA subject codes. Chapter text and illustrations help you more fully understand the concepts.
  • The questions are arranged into chapters based on subject matter to promote better understanding, aid recall, and thus provide a more efficient study guide.

ASA test books include all the questions: airplane, rotorcraft, glider, and lighter-than-air categories are all included, and the questions are identified as to which test they apply.

Best Prep Book!
by Thomas from Bossier City LA USA

Pros: Has easy to understand explanations and introductions.
Cons: Cannot think of any.
Review: After reading Rod Machado and associated work book, Jeppesen, June Bonesteel, and Robert Buck, the ASA Test Prep proved to be the most valuable. Took my test last week and scored a 100%...enough said.

Best I have seen
by Juliana from Bayfield CO USA

Pros: Easy to use and very informative
Cons: Doesn't always give good explanation of why answer is wrong
Review: Great illustration and since they are in their own book that comes with the book, they are removable which is very handy. Way easier to use then flipping the pages back and forth. Easy to get on line updates too. I teach ground school at a local airport and my students like it. I order 5 to 10 each year and sometimes more.

Good, but not enough illustrations
by Raymond from Monterey CA USA

Pros: All inclusive & covers all topics
Cons: Does not have appropriate figures/references
Review: I have been told that this book has all the questions that could be on the actual private pilot's test. I have been taking practice tests and have seen my score improve, much in part due to what has been reinforced in this publication. While it covers all of the critical areas with a brief explanation, it asks many questions referencing a figure/illustration that do not exist in this book. How can the reader refer to "figure 48" when it does not appear anywhere in the book?
[Reply from MyPilotStore:  Figure 48 can be found in the top left side of page 36 of the Test Supplement book that was included at the back of the Test Prep book.]

by brenda from chelsea OK USA

Pros: the break down of the problems/questions
Review: I have been able to study for the test with this book so much easier than before. Things that I was having problems understanding were explained so that is was easy to follow.

Review: The Private and Instrument Manuals are treasures of information for an old time pilot. Wow, how the knowledge and skill levels has grown since I first soloes in a J 3 65 horse Cub. I am lending out my manuals to some student pilots up here in the woods and they are essential for them to grow safely as good pilots. Thanks for your good work

Lives Up to Promo
by A Customer from Berkeley CA USA

Pros: efficient, formatted the same as the written exam
Cons: not much background info, just the basics
Review: It's just what it says it is -- a simple, fairly thorough workbook for prepping for the private written exam. Provides a brief review of a topic, then a set of m/c questions, with answers. Also gives some (not a lot) explanation for why correct answers are correct and why wrong answers are wrong.

Excellent material coverage
by A Customer from Hudsonville, MI

Pros: Current questions as indicated;nice quality, including the charts
Review: This test prep was what I was looking for. After an in-depth study, scored a 100% on the exam. I have used the Jeppesen guide previously (but costs more). The prep material was as good or better in the ASA prep book. I'd recommend this to others.
