  • New channel recall function
  • Simultaneous operating and charging from external power source
  • VOR navigation function (IC-A24 only)
  • Dedicated 121.5MHz Emergency key (Programmed with 121.5MHz homing frequency)
  • Water resistant, equivalent to IPX4
  • 200 alphanumeric memory channels with memory banks

Easy to use while flying
Simple one-handed operation is the most essential feature of the IC-A24/A6. The well labeled, large keypad provides user friendly operation. The large display shows both letters and numbers and is easy to see, making for fast frequency recognition. The display is back lit, and so is the keypad. The light stays on until you turn it off- a very handy feature for flying at night. On the side of the radio, it has a non-slip slit to prevent accidental dropping.

"Flip-flop Plus" channel recall
The IC-A24/A6 stores the last 10 channels used. You can easily recall those channels by pushing the "flip-flop" recall buttons on the front panel. It is convenient for switching between several channels, such as NAV and COM channels.

VOR navigation
The IC-A24 has VOR navigation functions. The DVOR mode shows the radial to or from a VOR station and the CDI mode shows the course deviation to/from a VOR station. You can also input your interested radial to/from the VOR station and show the course deviation on the display. In the USA version, the duplex operation allows you to call a COM channel, while you are using the VOR navigation. (IC-A24 only).

External DC power jack
An external DC power jack allows for operation with the included wall charger, BC-110 or the cigarette lighter cable, CP-20. When the battery pack is installed, simultaneous charging during operation is also possible. In addition, an optional battery case, BP-208N is available.

Water resistant construction
The water resistant construction provides reliable operation in wet conditions. Equivalent to IPX4 (IEC Standard Publication 529 IPX4 - protection against water splashed from any direction).

Large Alphanumeric LCD:
For the function display, a 6-character 14-segment alphanumeric LCD is employed to make a variety of information visually recognizable immediately. An automatic LCD backlight is standard for night time operation. Channel recall function: New for the IC-A24/A6, this function automatically memorized the last 10 used channels. You can easily recall those channels by pushing the recall buttons on the front panel. It is very convenient for switching between several channels at a time, such as NAV channels and COM channels etc.

Dedicated 121.5MHz Emergency Key:

  • Pros:
  • Review: Does what it should do, but you never know where the battery level is or when it is fully charged as nothing indicates so.

Do not recommend due to the fact I never know where my battery is until it is almost dead. Not good, my opine.

I would buy this radio again

  • By Brian from Cincinnati, ohio on Monday, October 17, 2016
  • Pros:
  • Review: I purchased this radio, while we were on vacation in Scottsdale AZ. I had done a lot of research before buying this unit. Right now I am in the process of trying to get my private pilots license. I use it mostly for listening to the weather before the flight. Listening to the local traffic in the pattern. I goes with me in my gear bag. It is simple enough I can figure it out, but has the features I will use as I progress further.

Icom Need to get up with the play

  • By Paul from Dunedin Otago New Zealand on Tuesday, May 12, 2015
  • Pros: Rugged and clear
  • Review: I found it reasonably rugged and clear to listen to. Very disappointed there is no way of knowing how full the battery charge is until the last 5 mins of charge and would have expected an automatic cut off with the battery charger. I have already wrecked two batteries on my A5 and a friends A6 because of over charging. Most competitors have both these features and I almost bought a competitor s radio because of that.

Unnecessarily complicates to operate.

  • By Bern from Wake Forest NC USA on Wednesday, April 15, 2015
  • Pros: Well constructed
  • Review: The radio is well built. That said, a quick look on the internet reveals I'm not alone in my assessment of this technology. For example, When you plug in the headset adapter you can't transmit using the radio transmit button. A loud feedback squeal greets you. One must use the optional purchased push to talk switch. Now with a gaggle of wires dangling from the radio your good to go...well not so fast. When entering a radio frequency you should hit the car/del button first to be sure the radio is ready to accept the input...nope not done yet. It's advisable to enter all 6 digits. Regardless of what the manual says. It's just much more complicated than it needs to be, especially if you depending on using the radio in an emergency.

Can't get push to talk to work with headset and radio

  • By Brad from State Line MS USA on Sunday, January 25, 2015
  • Pros: So far no Pros
  • Review: Would never buy his product again!!!!
Have called Icon for help with no help to get it to work. I bought the Ic-A24 and push to talk ordered from Mypilotstore and would like some help to get this radio and push to talk to work.
P.s. Even sent off helmet with headset to Comtronics to try to get it to work. Comtronics could not find a problem! Worked we'll for them.

  • By Axel from Panama on Tuesday, January 20, 2015
  • Pros: good reception
  • Review: Max. input voltage=11.5V Icom! engineers managed to design a product that cannot be connected to a normal 12V outlet (without using their special 50$-adapter)

memory bank system clumsy to use, arrow buttons cannot select memory positions

no charge indication, no Li-Ion battery

Excellent handheld radio/nav

  • By Stanley from Menlo Park CA USA on Saturday, January 17, 2015
  • Pros: Easy to operate. Plenty of features. Good performance.
  • Review: Experience has proved this radio to be a good choice in handhelds. I like its performance. The principal drawback is its charger, which doesn't automatically prevent overcharging of the rechargeable battery. One must check a charge indicator periodically to determine when the battery is fully charged and remove it to prevent damage.

Q: I'm looking to purchase an ICOM A-24 Tranciever and there are two batteries available. One is a Lithium Ion (BP211N) and the other NiMH (BP210N). Is there some information I could obtain explaining the advantages and or disadvantages of each of these batteries so I could make a more educated decision. Thanks, Park Payne

A: Nickel Metal Hydride (NiMh) can be recharged quickly and easily, do not suffer from "memory effect" and do not need to be fully discharged before recharging. Lithium Ion (Li-Ion) batteries are the most advanced technology and do not suffer from "memory effect", do not have to be fully discharged before recharging, and deliver more energy per charge than NiMH.
