Guide to the Flight Review for Instructors and Applicants
All pilots, whether they fly for pleasure, business, or as a career, must complete a flight review every 2 years (sometimes called a Biennial Flight Review or BFR). Guide to the Flight Review delivers valuable information in a question and answer format, providing an excellent study and preparation tool for students, pilots, and instructors alike. Flight instructors and FAA authorized flight review administrators will find this guide to be extremely helpful in developing a well-rounded flight review tailored to the applicants' needs. Applicants will learn what to expect in their upcoming flight review, refresh their knowledge, and renew their confidence, all of which will ensure safe practices while in flight.
This ninth edition reflects the latest FAA procedures and regulations. The book covers pilot privileges and limitations, aircraft maintenance, drone operations, weather, aerodynamics, aircraft performance, navigation, communications, regulations, airspace, airport operations, risk management, system operations and malfunctions, human factors, and more. Readers will also find a sample written exercise, a table summarizing maneuvers and Airman Certification Standard (ACS) tolerances, as well as appendices with checklists, personal minimums, and an over-the-counter medications reference.
The FAA offers different options for completing the Flight Review, and this book covers all of these in detail. International pilots can also use this book to help familiarize themselves with flight operations in the United States.
This book is an effective tool for both the applicant and the flight instructor and has separate sections for each. The Eighth Edition has been updated to reflect current rules and procedures and includes:
The flight review must include 1 hour of ground instruction as well as 1 hour of flight instruction. The information provided in this book may be used by instructors to fulfill these requirements

Q: Is it aircraft specific?
A: No, this is not specific to any particular aircraft.
Q: Is the date of the BFR figured from the end of the month the last test was taken or from the actual date of the exam.
A: According to the FAR 61.56, "no person may act as pilot in command of an aircraft unless, since the beginning of the 24th calendar month before the month in which that pilot acts as pilot in command, that person has Accomplished a flight review given in an aircraft for which that pilot is rated by an authorized instructor and..."
Basically, if your last flight review was Feb. 6, 2006 you would have until February 29, 2008 to complete your flight review (the end of the calendar month).
Q: Does it also cover instrument procedures for the Biennial Review?
A: This book is geared towards a VFR Flight Review. You might find one of these products more helpful: https://www.mypilotstore.com/mypilotstore/sep/1399 or https://www.mypilotstore.com/mypilotstore/sep/2441 or https://www.mypilotstore.com/mypilotstore/sep/609
