What's the difference between Ni-Cad and Ni-MH batteries?
The main difference between the two is that NiMH battery (the newer technology
of the two) offers a higher energy density than NiCads. In other words, the
capacity of a NiMH is approximately twice the capacity of its NiCad counterpart.
What this means is for you is increased run-time from the battery with no
additional bulk or weight. NiMH also offers another major advantage: NiCad
batteries tend to suffer from what is called the "memory effect". NiMH batteries
are less prone to develop this problem and thus require less maintenance and
conditioning. NiMH batteries are also more environmentally friendly than NiCad
batteries since they do not contain heavy metals (which present serious landfill
problems).
Will my original wall charger work with this battery?
Yes, this battery will work just like the battery that came with your
transceiver. It's the same size and form factor and can use the same wall

Q: Is this battery warranted in any way?I purchased an identical battery to replace the original in my A3 this past August from Aircraft Spruce. Re-charged once since then and now no good;no performance.At the cost of this product I would expect better quality and length of service. Now I`m dead in the water with no communication.

A: The Alkaline Battery case CM-167 was discontinued by Icom in April 2015 and is no longer being produced. This rechargeable battery is the only option for the IC-A22 now.

Q: What kind of self-discharge rate does this battery show? Will a charge last years, months, weeks or days without use before needing a recharge? That's been the annoyance with the OEM battery pack (CM-166) that came with the radio - whenever I want to use it, the battery is dead.
A: The original CM-166 battery was a Nicad battery and this is a NiMH battery. In general, any Nicad battery will have a much faster discharge rate. However, even with a NiMH battery you can only expect it to hold a full charge for several weeks and it's always best to recharge them before you might need them. If you really only want to keep it around for emergencies and not worry about charging, you might want to consider getting an Alkaline Battery Case and keeping some rechargeable AA batteries around.

Q: I'm looking for a headset adapter for ICOM A-3, and A-4 aviation handheld radios that plug into the radio (two male plugs) and ONE plug to military single plug helmet, with a Push to Talk (PTT)plug or actual PTT button. This saves having multiple adapters.
A: From what we understand, Icom does not make a headset adapter that has a single U174 connection for helicopters. Unfortunately you would need to use the OPC-499 Headset Adapter in conjunction with a Fixed Wing to Helicopter Adapter.
