BEST (yes, best) aviator shirt!

  • By A Customer from San Jose CA USA on Friday, March 6, 2020
  • Review: Seriously, in my 40+ years of professional aviating (and wearing aviator shirts) this is the best shirt EVER. I'm a tall thin guy with long arms and this shirt actually FITS! Way better than the poorly chosen shirts uniform that my company offers us. I'm buying more of these shirts.

Best Shirt I've ever purchased

  • By James from Chesapeake City MD USA on Thursday, October 25, 2007
  • Pros: Nicer material, more like a fine dress shirt.
  • Cons: Cost
  • Review: I've tried many shirts in my 25 year airline career. Although the AP Elite cost a little more, it is by far the best made and best wearing shirt I've owned.

Not worth the money

  • By Michael from Fort Mill SC USA on Wednesday, January 7, 2015
  • Pros: none that I could find
  • Cons: excessive ironing, pockets not open (or not wide enough)
  • Review: Needs excessive ironing
Left pocket opening not wide enough for Pasport
Would be better if right pocket also had opening
Size 16 neck is VERY tight although all my other shirts are size 16

  • Pros: Has a longer tail. Has a quality feel to it.
  • Cons: Not totally wrinkle free

A shirt worth purchasing

  • By Robert Hartle Pilot for C.F.M. In Smyrna, TN from Nashville area of TN USA on Monday, January 18, 2010
  • Pros: Material Thickness, Brite Clean White Look....Just Sharp! Sizing seems to be accurate and comfortable
  • Cons: Maybe just a little more material than needed. Arms sleeves on the long sleeves I bought are more generous than really needed, but not a show stopper at all.
  • Review: For years as a pilot in a charter operation I have purchased the Van Heusen pilot shirts until recently. I took a chance on the AP Elite Pilot Shirt in the long sleeve style. Loved it! The material is heavier and has less tendency to be "transparent" and show your undershirt. It is a brite white material that when next to my Van Heusen shirts really shows the difference. If you want a recommendation for a shirt, this would be the one to purchase. I will be purchasing additional shirts to phase out the Van Heusen collection that I have. Enjoy!

Best I've found; but needs "no iron" aspect

  • By David from La Jolla CA USA on Monday, August 29, 2011
  • Pros: Amply girth, arms are long enough.
  • Cons: not really "no iron"
  • Review: Finally, a "tall" shirt that's also ample in the belly . . . to accommodate my ( umm . . ) professional girth. Could use a "no iron" finish and could be a little heavier. Ideally, if it matched the Fredericks "no iron" shirt (the one with the button-down collar ), but had your pilot's pockets and epaulet-style, it would be perfect. I've ASKED Frederick's to match your style, but they won't. So, I keep buying from you.

Finally found the PERFECT shirt

  • By Bobby from Spokane WA USA on Wednesday, January 19, 2011
  • Pros: see description
  • Cons: No cons that I can find
  • Review: More expensive than a Van Heusen Commander but well worth the extra bucks. Price should not be a determining factor for this shirt. I found that it is very much worth the extra bucks compared to the van heusen. Shirt is WHITE. Not some off shade of white like my van heusen. It is a true bright white. The fit was perfect. Between a fitted cut and a regular cut. Not a lot of excess fabric around the middle and not binding in any way. I wear a 17.5 neck with 34/35 sleeve. I am a size 46 chest and 40 across my bellybutton. By comparison, the same size shirt in my van heusen resulted in a lot of excess fabric at the waist and required tailoring. Great quality stitching. Re-enforced button holes. (button holes on my van heusen raveled) Buttons sewn on with heavy stitching. Two buttons on the cuffs for easy adjustment. Heavy collar stays in position. Epaulets are straight and on top of the shoulder. It sounds odd to point this out but my van heusen commander had the epaulets slightly forward of the top of the shoulder requiring a tailor to relocate them and place them straight and on top. I am very happy with the AP Elite Pilot shirt. It is an absolutely perfect quality shirt!

  • By August from Huntington Beach CA USA on Wednesday, June 22, 2011
  • Pros: The Oxford look is definitely a great look. Very crisp and professional.
  • Cons: The collar. It needs improvement!!.

More than I was expecting.

  • By John from Nevada City CA USA on Wednesday, March 16, 2011
  • Pros: First Class
  • Cons: None
  • Review: I was shopping around for uniform shirts for our Marine Corps League Detachment. The shirts will be worn during Color Guards, funeral services, formal functions, and parades. The fist time I wore the shirt was for the Installation of New Officers. What I wasn't expecting was a military grade uniform shirt. Everything about these shirts are first class.

Pilot Shirt

  • By Johann from Jupiter FL USA on Wednesday, January 22, 2025
  • Pros:
  • Cons: None
  • Review: I’ve tried many pilot shirts over the years, but these are by far the best I’ve ever had! The quality is absolutely supreme—every detail has been carefully crafted, from the stitching to the fabric choice. The material is comfortable, durable, and looks sharp even after a long day in the cockpit. The fit is perfect, striking the ideal balance between professional and practical. I’ve received countless compliments on how well they hold their shape and appearance. Highly recommended for any pilot looking for top-tier uniforms!

Best of poor selection out there.

  • By A Customer from Birmingham AL USA on Wednesday, December 15, 2010
  • Review: Let's face it. Pilot shirts aren't the classiest shirts available. But among the choices out there, this one's the best. Better material than most. Cut well. Main problem: collar needs stiffening - tends to bend instead of staying in place.

great for tall guys; collar flips up

  • By A Customer from La Jolla CA USA on Thursday, July 8, 2010
  • Pros: trim, long shirttail, good long sleeves and wrinkle-free
  • Cons: collar points flip up at inopportune moments
  • Review: This shirt stayed trim and fit over a twenty-six hour trip from Brussels to La Jolla. Long-sleeves were really long-sleeves, even tho' the "size" was 36/37 . Usually, that means the sleeves are on the short side of 36. A drawback: the collar points flip up when one isn't aware they're flipping up. They only rise above the shirt about an inch, but that constantly occurs. Solution: put heavier curled plastic tabs into the shirt-collar points to keep the collar points pointed down --- or make this same shirt in a button-down model. THAT shirt I'd buy !!

Nice shirt

  • By William from IRVINE CA USA on Wednesday, January 29, 2014
  • Pros: Looks great, wears well
  • Cons: Material a little on the skimpy side
  • Review: Very nice shirt. Fits well. However, one thing that sort of bothers me about this shirt. I was under the impression that the material would be a bit heavier than the other shirts that I purchased from this store. I would have rated the shirt 5 stars if it was just a little bit thicker in the material. All other features are 5 star rated. All in all, I am happy with this shirt. I plan to purchase additional shirts down the road.

very comfortable shirt.

  • By Kenny from Folkston GA USA on Wednesday, January 29, 2025
  • Review: Ive always enjoyed wearing AP Elite shirts. THEY LAST! I would however wish they had maybe a more tapered side. They are still little on the blousey side. Even with a 17" neck and 32" waist. Over all great shirt to wear.

very nice fabric, until it shrunk

  • By Richard from San Jose CA USA on Thursday, April 16, 2015
  • Pros: The nicest fabric of any pilot shirt I've ever worn.
  • Cons: Sleeves too short after washing and drying
  • Review: I really liked the fabric. But after I washed and dried the shirt, the sleeves were a little too short. The long sleeve 34/35 length is now about a half inch too short. The Van Husen Aviator 34/35 length sleeves still fit after washing, but this shirt does not fit any more. The pockets are a little too small to fit my passport while still buttoning the pocket flap.

meh, won't buy again

  • By Capt Chris from Potomac River on Tuesday, September 23, 2014
  • Pros: its white, wasnt missing any buttons
  • Cons: weird fit, thin material
  • Review: Not sure what is going on here. It looks like this shirt used to get good reviews. But what just came in the mail is not what I was hoping for. The material is definitely a lot thinner than what I was expecting. I'm 6" 220lbs and I ordered a 17.5 34/35, this is my dress shirt size that I own many of. Something about the way this is cut makes the sleeves seem 2 inches shorter than they are. I held the shirt up to one of my dress shirts, and the sleeves are identical. So I guess its just an odd fitting/cut shirt. I usually roll my sleeves up, so I'm keeping the shirt. But if that is not your plan, I'd order up in sleeve length or avoid this shirt all together

OK but needs some design changes

  • By A Customer from Charlotte, NC on Tuesday, November 6, 2012
  • Review: I've been flying foa a major for over 15 years and continue the search for a really great shirt. Was hoping this was it. Overall a good shirt. A couple points:

    1. The false flap on the left pocket is not really a false flap, it's sewed throught the middle to provide a pen divider. The result is the pocket is not really useful as a false flap.

    2. I am normally a 33" sleeve. I ordered the 34/35 and the sleeves are short to the point of annoyance. Not very good QA here. The cuffs are tight but not as tight as many shirts made in the Asian marketplace. The collars have a tendency to pop up but do better under heavey starch.

    3. On the bright side, the cotton/poly mix works well and the shirt is correctly tapered to give a clean appearance. If the collar and pocket flap were fixed, and the sleeves actually cut to the length specified, this would be a great pilot shirt.

a little over rated

  • By Mark from Ellicott City MD USA on Wednesday, January 23, 2013
  • Pros: good fit
  • Cons: thin and greying to early
  • Review: This shirt is OK . It has good sleeve length to advertised size but the neck size runs larger than advertized. The fabrick is greying to fast it has been professionally cleaned 5 or 6 times and looking thin and grey.

  • By Steve from Alexandria, VA on Wednesday, March 11, 2009
  • Review: The AP shirts arrived today. I found them to be More, not less, tapered than the Van Heusen Commanders. Your ad states "This is a generous, full-cut shirt that will easily accommodate larger torso. For average or smaller frames, we recommend buying a half size less or consider the Van Heusen pilot shirts which are slightly more tapered. Tie and epaulets sold separate." This statement doesn't ring true as they are much tighter than the VH.

  • By Jeff Scott from Bartlett TN USA on Wednesday, January 29, 2014
  • Pros: comfortable material, bright white color
  • Cons: not enough length in the body or the sleeves
  • Review: The shirt is advertised as a tall with 36/37 sleeves. The length of the shirt may be a tad longer than non tall shirts but it needs more length all the way around as it comes very close to pulling out of my pant's waistband after I have sat down and then stood back up a number of times. Additionally the sleeves are at best on the low end of the 36 inch length. There's no way they are anywhere near 37 inches. When I raise my arm straight out in front of me there are close to 2 inches of bare wrist that is uncovered by the shirt's sleeve because it is not a true 36/37 sleeve length. In summary, add a little more length to the shirt's body length and a good inch and a half to the sleeve length and you've got yourself a fine shirt.

Dodgy collars, overpriced - don't live up to the hype

  • By Comanche Pilot from Australia on Monday, March 17, 2014
  • Pros: Long sleeves
  • Cons: Awful collars, loose fit
  • Review: I have to agree with Captain Morgan below: these shirts are poor quality for the price. The collars stick up - won't lie flat (as a number of others here have already mentioned) - and the fit is quite loose (I'm 6' 180lbs). I bought two of these and two Van Heusen 100% cotton aviator shirts at the same time, delivered to Australia. The Van Heusen's are much nicer shirts at 2/3 the price. The cotton is comfortable (much nicer than polyester blends), the fit is good, the collars are the way they should be and they are just a nice shirt to wear. They are also made in Honduras. The AP Elite is made in China and feels like it: cheap, loose and dodgy collars. They don't look or feel professional at all. Just wish Van Heusen made the 100% cotton in a long-sleeved design. My AP Elite shirts are going straight back to the shop. I don't like them at all.

don't believe the hype... this shirt is terrible.

  • By capt.morgan from portland, OR on Thursday, February 28, 2013
  • Pros: nice bright white, sleeve length
  • Cons: everything else are blatant lies
  • Review: these shirts are absolute garbage. I bought 2 of these and got them in the mail today and already hate them. great claims are made about the "dress shirt quality" and "easy care" of these shirts that are just blatant lies. the sizing of these shirts runs quite large. the neck size and chest measurements were too large, I am 6'1 220 and felt like i was wearing a sail. the sleeve length's were good. I tried to wash and dry them to shrink them some so they would fit better, the only thing I found out from that was that the claims made about being "easy care" are lies. had to spend almost 30 minutes ironing all the wrinkles out of only 2 shirts. the collars are less than amazing as well. while collar stays are sewed into the collars, they are far too soft and short to keep the collars down. long story short, not only would I not buy these again (might even buy different ones after a few times worn) but I would not recommend them to anyone else. if you are on the fence about these, thinking the shirts can't be as bad as the reviews sound (which is what I thought) save your money. buy something else.

Not worth it

  • By Tim on Saturday, January 26, 2013
  • Pros: Neck size was right. Nice collar
  • Cons: Didn't fit right. Sleeves too short. Tight across the shoulders. Poor fabric.
  • Review: I had high hopes for this shirt after reading some reviews. Maybe they changed how they are made. I've been a Van Heusen Commander wearer for years. This shirt is twice the price and half the quality. After one, two day, trip this thing is going straight to the trash.  I'll compare it to a $20 Commander. The neck size was good, too tight across the shoulders (no center pleat), sleeves are too short, and the fabric is too thin to hold a press.

Too tight

  • By Stephen from Alexandria VA USA on Tuesday, February 24, 2015
  • Pros: material
  • Cons: too tight, do no fit properly for the size
  • Review: Nice material, but much too tight in the body. For a shirt this expensive, the manufacturer should not skimp on material.
