Works well in a small cockpit while wearing a parachute

  • By Dave F. from So Cal on Friday, November 24, 2023
  • Pros: Comfortable, can be worn with parachute
  • Review: I bought these for my Extra 300L, which requires the wear of parachutes. These work well with my Softie aerobatic harness parachutes... the inflatable portion is outside the parachute harness, so they shouldn't suffocate you if they were to inadvertently inflate while wearing the parachute. Disadvantage is they might make the parachute ripcord harder to find. .

2 QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

  • Previously Asked Questions

    Q: Are these FAA approved?

A: What type of flight?  As of today, for private, non-commercial flights (Part 91) in the USA that do not fall under the "Large and Turbine-Powered" the FAA does not have any regulation that requires a life jacket or TSO certification.  Other constraints can still matter such as aircraft POH requirements, insurance, rental/FBO rules, international/foreign airspace rules, or commercial/for-hire status.  However, if an aircraft is operated for hire over water and beyond power-off gliding distance from shore, under Under FAR 91.205(b)(12), it must have an FAA "approved flotation gear" for every occupant. For those cases, you specifically need a TSO-C13 certified aviation life vest.

Q: Is there a manual inflation backup and a whistle on this lifejacket?

A: This does include an automatic inflate with manual backup and a signal whistle.
