Howard's Golden Age

Howard's Golden Age by Art Hall tells the full story of Benny Howard, one of aviation's most remarkable figures of the 1930s. Howard built four of the most celebrated air racers of the era, Pete, Mike, Ike, and Mr. Mulligan, and parlayed that success into a career as a commercial aircraft manufacturer and highly regarded test pilot. This book follows that arc from early competition flying through the rise and eventual challenges of the Howard Aircraft Corporation.

The story covers all of Howard's DGA model aircraft, from the DGA-1 through the DGA-18, including the DGA-15 type aircraft built in quantity for the U.S. Navy. Most of the Howard aircraft still flying today trace back to those Navy DGA-15s, which gives the book particular relevance for owners and restorers of surviving Howard aircraft.

The historical text is supported by 155 original photographs from the period and 20 pages of 3-view scale drawings covering each DGA model. The drawings were produced by the late Paul Matt, an internationally recognized aviation artist, and by the author.
