When I was 16, my mentor AJ wore a Citizen with a slide-rule bezel. Every time he gave us a chewing out, my eyes were glued to that watch. From then on, Citizen craftsmanship became the standard for me, a brand I respected even more than the high-end luxury names heavy on aviation marketing.
Fast forward 15 years to age 31. The exact day I paid off my Ram 5500, I walked into Macy’s to mark the milestone. I didn't have a specific model in mind, but one piece immediately called to me: the Citizen Promaster Skyhawk A-T Blue Angels Edition. As a licensed A&P mechanic who used to live with friends from the VFA-31 "Tomcatters" squadron at NAS Oceana, the Blue Angels tie-in and aviation DNA made it feel like pure fate. Scoring it at an unbeatable price below wholesale was just the cherry on top. This watch has the Citizen Atomic Timekeeping technology. Using radio control, this technology automatically updates the time and date of your watch based on a time signal from an atomic clock with a margin of error of one second every 100,000 years. Time signals are received from transmitters, or atomic clocks, in four different regions: Europe, the United States, China, and Japan.
