APR’s Student Pilot Wind Triangle & T/S/D Navigation Computer features the patent pending exclusive Wind Speed Cusor Arm that quickly tells you groundspeed, wind correction angle, and magnetic heading.

The new APR Windspeed Cursor eliminates two set-ups and the need to mark dots on the plastic disc. This revolutionary windspeed cursor computer is available only from APR through your aviation dealer. There is no similar computer on the market!

The E6-B8D calculates all necessary flight planning and en route navigation requirements. Color-coded sawtooth scales are user-friendly and allow for quick, accurate reading. Instructions printed on the computer make learning faster and easier.

The Time/Speed/Distance computer provides all major navigation computations.

The new APR Windspeed Cursor Arm makes solving wind problems a breeze. Simply set your true course, rotate cursor arm to wind direction, and read your wind correction angle and groundspeed. Instructions for Windspeed Cursor set-up are printed on the computer slide.

The flight planning side of the wind triangle slide shows formulae for true course to compass headings as well as illustrated examples of east/west magnetic variation. Also displayed are definitions relevant to wind triangle problems and diagrams of true heading and true course solutions. The headwind and crosswind component grid depicts the relative wind angle in a multi-color graphic for accurate and easy interpretation. Nautical and Statute scales for Sectional and WAC Charts are printed on the sides of the slide.

Dimensions:  4.5x" x 8.75".  Made of PVC Plastic (not cardboard!).

Bonus NP-8 Training Plotter Included!   The NP-8 Bonus Training Plotter illustrates how to measure courses on latitude and longitude lines. Four protractor scales and graphic instructions allow you to read courses on the east/west and north/south quadrants and eight scales help to measure statute and nautical distances. The plotter has 1/10” and ¼” rulers and formulae to determine true course to magnetic course and magnetic course to true course. Dimensions: 4.5" x 8.75".  Made with PVC Plastic

I just love this thing

  • By John from Salisbury MD USA on Monday, June 20, 2016
  • Pros:
  • Review: The only one I've seen with the wind angle thing, makes reading it a lot easier.

Excellent Product

  • By Dave Lintz from Sturgeon Bay WI USA on Wednesday, March 19, 2014
  • Pros: See above
  • Review: Small and easy to store and use. Computer is made of plastic rather than cardboard so it will last a lifetime. I'm a student, so the instruction book is an excellent learning tool. Easy to read.

The inner and outer scales are misaligned

  • By Riaz from Central Texas USA on Monday, March 03, 2014
  • Pros: Color contrast, inner "windowed" scales are somehow easier to use than most other E6Bs.
  • Review: I purchased this product because of the color contrast; however, after using it for about two weeks, I began to notice that my calculations were off by as much as six (6) percent in some cases. For example, rotating the inner scale until the "20" minute mark is directly under the 10 mark on the outer scale should yield values on the inner scale that are exactly twice those on the outer scale; 10 on the outer scale points to 20 on the inner, 15 to 30, etc. This reading is not consistent as 30 on the outer scale does not point to 60 on the inner scale (as it should) instead it points to ~59.5 - which is obviously incorrect.

Additionally, the wind scales (on the reverse) do not maintain position well so it is easy to move them while attempting to calculate as desired. There is no way to adjust the "friction" between the scales so it becomes increasingly difficult to maintain the scales with use.

After realizing the errors in the scale and the difficulties I faced during use, I purchased the ASA Color E6-B Manual Flight Computer (it is made of metal) and am very happy with it. I could overlook the difficulty in using the scales but the inaccuracy of the scale was unacceptable as I need to use the computer to pass tests and ultimately the FAA exams.

I highly recommend spending the extra $5 - $10 for the higher-end E6B (preferably made of metal) as you will use it even after you have completed your training and start flying on your own.

Outstanding Design and Value

  • By John from Jupiter FL USA on Tuesday, October 08, 2013
  • Pros: Easy to read colours, stylish, light
  • Review: Very easy to read and eye-catching style.

How about making a "Pro" or "Top Gun" version in the same colour scheme, but with high/low speed slide and construction of higher-grade plastic/composite ?

Another great feature is that the plastic is not as subject to scratching as the metal computers; lighter too !

All, in all, the BEST value in E-6B computers.

    John

Light and Extra Handy

  • By James from DPO AE USA on Friday, January 25, 2013
  • Pros: More functions than your typical E6B
  • Review: This E6B isnt the toughest constructed, but it's cheap, light, and has additional functions. Making wind corrections is easier with this model than more robust metal version. Very much worth the money.

Helpful tool for the beginner

  • By A Customer from Bremen GA USA on Thursday, October 04, 2012
  • Pros: Concise insructions and practice exercises.
  • Review: A tool that a novice, with basic aviation experience, can master with a moderate amount of time and plenty of practice and practical application. It helps the new aviation enthusiast to better understand important trip planning principles.

  • By Riaz from Central Texas USA on Monday, March 03, 2014
  • Pros: Color contrast, inner "windowed" scales are somehow easier to use than most other E6Bs.
  • Cons: Scales are misaligned and they "float" freely with minimal friction so they are easy to knock off track.
