by Lon from Keller, Tesas USA
Pros: Comfortable, Good noise cancellation, light weight Cons: Long plug cord Review: The noise cancellation is very good. The headset is light and the earmuffs are very comfortable. The only thing that I have a problem with is the long cord.

Works just fine by Ronald from Tampa FL USA
Pros: Good quality construction, fit is fine, work well. Cons: Not as comfortable as the Bose. Review: The headset works just fine. The bluetooth connection to my cell phone was very interesting and worked well. The set is not as comfortable as the Bose A20, but sure beat the price.

Just the facts by Steve from Dunnellon, FL
Pros: Worked well for awhile Cons: After awhile didn't work and began to disintegrate. Review: I have a four place airplane. I have six headsets because over time passangers would complain about their set not working and I would buy another set. The other day I decided to sort out the bad ones. I now have four sets working perfectly and two that I must discard. The four good ones are David Clark. The two bad ones are Lightspeed. Coincidence? Strangely, the insulation on the Lightspeed wiring is crumbling off. And yes, I have had people ask what is that black stuff on the side of your head? I must say it was the signature of Lightspeed headsets.
[
[Reply from MyPilotStore: We are sorry to hear about the problems you have had with your Zulu headsets. This is not typical of the Zulu headsets at all. All of the Zulu headsets are covered by a five year manufacturer warranty and these have not even been on the market for five years yet. We would urge you to contact Lightspeed (800-332-2421) for warranty repair/replacement instead of discarding the headsets.]]

super high quality by justin from somers MT USA
Pros: beautiful gear that works great Cons: clunky cables/adaptors Review: What stands out the most is the high level of detail and quality that is put into these things. Seriously, they are made with magnesium! The ANR works wonders and the sound quality is superb while using an ipod. Be sure to go with the battery powered version as the aftermarket adapter for the panel powered version is not a great combo as I have learned.

Noise canceling is heaven by Mary from Okeechobee, FL
Pros: I can hear and understand traffic much better with my Zulu headset. I don't have to ask ATC to "say again." constantly. I'm a student pilot so trying to hear it all. Review: I have a bit of a hearing deficit in my right ear so these headsets have made a huge difference in my ability to understand other radio traffic. Now my only problem is I need to learn to speak up so the traffic can hear me. (Heard one complaint the other day from another pilot in the traffic pattern but it could have been his receiver.)

Should have bought one sooner! by Gregory J from Loveland OH USA
Pros: Noise cancelling, Bluetooth clear and noise free. Cons: weight of battery pack on cord Review: Noise reduction is excellent. Bluetooth connection is so clear and noise free, that people on the ground don't even realize I'm in the plane. Noise cancelling is so good, I can hear a high pitch (very faintly) that I couldn't hear with my old set. My previous headset was hard-wired direct, so now finding a comfortable location for the battery pack is still and issue.

Very Nice Headset for the Price by Air Force Flight Screening CFI from Colorado Springs CO USA
Pros: Sound quality, comfort, lightness, overall quality Cons: Mic doesn't swivel to wear on right side, cord quality is poor Review: Bought the original Lightspeed Zulu in June 2011. Put over 150 hours of flying time on the headset, flying two to three training sorties a day as a CFI from July to September 2011. Couldn't ask for a better product for the price ($740).
Pros - Amazing sound quality, very light, and comfortable. High quality ANR technology (doesn't have a warble noise from prop air blasting through the window like other ANR headsets I've used) Tight seal ear cuffs and top pad are covered in very soft leather. Very nice custom fit clam-shell headset case. The headset goes about 18-20 hours of flying (about 8 - 10 days for me) before I have to change the batteries. I use recharge-able energizer AA's. Have only had to change in flight once because I didn't see the flashing red LED at the beginning of the sortie. Very easy to change in flight. I always keep a spare set of batteries in my pocket.
Cons - The mic boom only swings one way. Would be nice to swing both clockwise and counterclockwise, if the wearer sits in either right or left seat and connection jacks are in center console. Right now, when I sit in the left seat the mic has no choice but to be on the left side of my head and the cord has to go around my back to the center of the plane. Also, the quality of the jack cords is suspect. I estimate there might be a problem with the cords in the future where they connect with the jack plugs. This area of the cord has a plastic circular pyramidal shaped protector that helps the end of the cord from being bent at a tight angle at the plug jack. This plastic protector has separated from the cord and can slide up the cord away from the jack. Right now, after 150 hours of use, cord is still fine, but I sense this may be a problem in the future. I would be scared to store the headset anywhere except in it's custom case.
Zulu vs Bose Comparison: One day, I swapped headsets with a student who had a Bose A20 headset. I couldn't tell the difference in sound quality. I preferred the Zulu's fit to the Bose. The Bose has a hinge on the top and fit tighter to the ears. I like the softer fit of the Zulu around the ears. The Bose had a mic that swivels either way. Otherwise the two headsets were very comparable in performance. Obviously one is a bit cheaper than the other. Both are very high quality.
Overall, I'm very happy with the Zulu. I don't know what I'd do without it in the very high traffic multiple radio training environment in which I've been flying.

Great Product! by aaron from Prescott AZ
Pros: Sound and Comfort Cons: Nothing Review: It fits great, comfortable even w/ hat and sunglasses on, and the audio quality is great. I have a set of bose headphones(not avionic)and the Zulu Headset sounds just as good, if not better. I would definitely choose this product again.

Black stuff in my hair by Mick from Annapolis MD
Pros: good price Cons: fragile Review: Ear pads on my eighty flying hour (five year old) headset started to deteriorate and crumble... balls of black stuff got into my ear and hair. The service rep said those pads are only good for 18 to 24 months. News to me! I ordered a new set of pads for the most deteriorated headset. $20+ ....... they didn't fit. Even worse they almost fit, drove me nuts before everybody convinced they would never snap on. I will order two new headsets today.... Most likely Bose, just because I have other Bose equipment that works as advertised with no surprises. I wish I knew more about Sennheiser S1. Just noticed..... this was not a new model Zulu... Sorry.

great non name brand by david from Baton Rouge LA USA
Pros: solid preformance, low cost, std W/Ipod hook up Review: I was real apprehensive about "not Bose", but this was great move, the only drawback, and its probably adjustable I hadn't figured it out yet, you have talk real loud to activate the mike, other than that small item- wonderful.

Love it! by Jason from Chillicothe IL USA
Review: I don't have a lot of experience with headsets since I'm still a pilot in training, but so far I love these. Much better than what was offered at the FBO. Would recommend to anyone. Also since the new Zulu's came out, the discount on these was really nice to have.

Nice headset by Robert from Missoula MT USA
Pros: Comfortable, Great Noise cancelling, Easy to adjust mic Cons: Price seems high, Bluetooth only stays on for a short period of inactivity Review: Nice comfortable headset. I had to re-learn what my engine sounded like as the noice cancelling really works well. BlueTooth only stays on for a short while unless it is being used continuouly.

Everything i had hoped for! by Michael from Raleigh NC USA
Cons: the unit cancels noise so well, i couldn't hear my fuel timer on my kneeboard. Review: Perfect fit. Perfect comfort. Perfect noise reduction. I could not imagine the difference between my budget headset and the lightspeed. I even had a headset that claimed to have quality features of more expensive headset at a budget price. Sorry not true. You truly get what you pay for. From the moment I put the unit on and it touched my ears, I could tell this was so much better than anything I ever experienced.

Sonic Genius! by Sean from Seattle WA USA
Pros: Noise Cancellation, Crystal clear sound, Comfortable, Hard case included, Reduced price due to an updated model on the market Cons: Only 1 small beef: Mic doesn't flip to the other side so the cable has to run across the back of my neck if I'm in the left seat. Review: My main aim with a new headset was to get something with noise cancellation. As I entered the CFI phase of my career I quickly realized my old training headset wasn't going to cut it anymore in a Chopper. Communication is clear as a bell now! "Say again" has all but left my vocabulary. Bluetooth and MP3 inputs are nice extras but I haven't found an appropriate application yet. Probably better suited for a passenger rather than PIC.

I would certainly buy this product again by Paul from Greenwich CT USA
Pros: Light, comfortable, clean sound. Cons: None Review: This headset has certainly exceeded my expectations. Although I am a student pilot and my only prior experience was the David Clarks that I borrowed from the school, the Lightspeeds have been terrific. They are light and comfortable and the sound is crystal clear. They stow easily in my flight bag and have been quite durable so far. My first important purchase as a student pilot and I would buy them again without hesitation.

Very Good Noise Cancellation by bongo driver from Lae, Papua New Guinea

The Perfect Headsets by Thomas from Binningen . Switzerland
Pros: noise cancellation, interfaces, comfort Cons: price Review: The noise reduction even without activation of the active noise reduction is already great. With the active noise reduction it is perfect. The other party will not believe that you are in a flying helicopter when you make a phone call with a connected mobile phone. It comes with a great protection bag.

Better than Bose by Kent Magnuson from Kearney,NE
Pros: great fit/quality feel/quiet Cons: none Review: Our flight department has 3 of these in our aircraft. We like the fit better than Bose and the Zulu feels more solid construction. Also, Lightspeed factory support is better.

Amazingly good!! by Michael from Kansas City MO USA
Pros: Great ANR and fit and feel Cons: $850 is still alot to pay for a headset... Review: This is the first headset I have ever owned but have borrowed others from friends. I am now in training myself and broke down and bought my own. Based on other reviews I bought the Lightspeed and have not been dissapointed! Very comfortable, even when wearing for multiple hours, and the sound quality with the ANR is amazing. In fact, almost too good for a student pilot. In some manuevers I have found them to be too quiet when listening for an increase in engine RPM when my eyes are outside the window. The clamshell case they come in is rugged and they fit very nicely in my Brightline Flight Bag. Battery life is very good, but I replace them weekely to ensure I don't have an enflight failure. Several Instructors at my school have them and rave about the quality and Lightspeed's customer support. Some also have the Bose and wonder why they paid more for less... Very satisfied with my selection of the Lightspeed Zulu and wholeheartedly recommend them to someone looking for a high quality headset.

Great product and would purchase again. by Trace from Jacksonville, FL USA
Pros: Awesome. Great sound and comfortable. Cons: A little painful with my Rayban Aviators. Probably the sunglasses fault though. Review: I love the Lightspeed Zulu headset. I am a new pilot and the difference with other headsets is tremendous. Took it on a 10 flight hour trip through the Caribbean and it worked great in the Piper Seminole. Being able to play music via the iPhone is awesome and it does not interrupt the radio communications at all. On extended trips (over 30 minutes) it does pinch a little with my Rayban Aviator's but I think it is a problem with the sunglasses and not the headset.

My second set! by Bryan from Olathe KS USA
Pros: Comfortable, quiet, relatively light. Cons: Expensive Review: I had a few problems w/my first set but Lightspeed's excellent customer service repaired them and had them back to me in less than a week. The Zulu is very comfortable and quiet. Personal preference but I prefer Zulu to Bose...that's why I purchased the second set.

Pros: Meets every demand of a headset Cons: can't find any as yet Review: This product has met my expectations and I recommend it to anyone that has a few bucks and looking on investing in a quality, durable and efficient headset... I love mine and the numerous features it has... Well the only thing is that its a battery ANR system not plugged with automatic ANR capability..

Far exceeded my expectations by JTB - open cockpits rule!! from New Zealand
Pros: Excellent noise cancelling, extreemly comfortable, great add-on features. Reasonably priced compared to nearest competitive headset. Cons: Carry case is a litttle small for the headset. Review: After many hours of reading reviews, I finnaly decided to try a Lightspeed Zulu ANR headset. Having been a DC fan for years, and having used and been very happy with DC ANR headsets in recent times, I was blown away by the comfort and near silence when I first put on my Zulu headset. After engine start I was even more impressed - this headset is just incredable. The FRC function is equally impressive, and the bluetooth link with my mobile phone in my opinion adds a new level of safety and conveniance, is simple to operate, and works extreemly well. To sum up, I am very pleased with my purchase, and will soon add another Zulu headset to my flight bag, so that my passengers may ejoy the same level of comfort and quiet in my vintage 2 seat, open cockpit aircraft. All that said, I did occassionally experiance some (brief) drumming in one or other ear - I believe this occurred when my head movement exposed the earpiece michrophones to the turbulent eddies comming around the side of the windscreen - just a consideration for others who plan to use these in open cockpit machines. I see this as a limitation factor of my aircraft's environment, and not a headset issue as such.[I have now used the headset in several 2 seat trainer aircraft - C152 / PA 38 etc, and have not experianced any drumming - just blissful quiet]. If you are thinking about an ANR headset, think very hard before you go past the Lightspeed Zulu.

Lightspeed = A- by A Customer from Darwin NT Australia
Pros: ANR,, Bluetooth connection, sound qualitiy Cons: If ear seal has a gap it can cause thumping sound Review: As a package a very good headset. Not quite as comfortable (clamping pressure) as my previous David Clark x11 but better in all other areas. Can do a 6+ hour flying day quite easily. ANR is very good, bluetooth connectivity for phone calls and music also very good. Battery life seems much better than the x11 maybe 15-20 hours with bluetooth use. Sound quality for music/radio is very good.

Good Product and Customer Service by DUANE from TX USA
Pros: Great noise reduction Cons: Had manufacturing defect Review: Product works as advertised. I had to send it back for repair. The battery compartment had a defect that showed up after about 15 hours. After sending the headset back to the company, they promptly sent me a new one back. Since that time, it has worked flawlessly.

Great active noise reduction by A Customer from Rancho Sta Marg CA USA
Pros: Very clear audio with ANR turned on Cons: Passive NR is not effective in a loud environment Review: I fly a Piper Cub. This is the first headset I have used which is capable of providing clear communications in a very loud environment. However, don't let the batteries die! The passive noise reduction is NOT very effective.

Flying at the speed of light by Maz from Zurich Switzerland
Pros: Comfort, ANR Review: I've been looking many times for a headset. I was trying the Sennheiser HMEC 250 which failed because of the bad comfort and the weak noise reduction. Then, I tried the Bose X and the Lightspeed Zulu. I knew that everyone thinks different about it. Some people prefer Bose, others prefer Lightspeed. For me, the Zulu was more comfortable, so there is no pressure around the ears. Let's talk about the noise reduction. If you put on your lightspeed switched off, the reduction is as good as a passive headset usually is. But as soon as you switch it on, the motor is becoming very quiet. It's good because you may hear any changes on the performance, but it's not loud. The only negative point about the Noise reduction: The stall-warning will probably also be reduced. Anyway, the intercom or avionic sounds are cristal-clear. The Bluetooth connection works great and it is possible to make phone calls inflight, so the other person would not remark the noise. For my opinion, it is the best headset. And don't forget: You only have one pair of ears.

not worth the $$ in my opinion. by JOHN from MINNEAPOLIS MN USA
Pros: excellent sound quality, excellent fit, good battery economizing. Cons: price only Review: It's a top of the line product with a top of the line price that, in my opinion, is too high. I had my reservations and, in hindsight, have doubts as to the value and wish I had done something different.

Fantastic ligtweight and clear headset by Wy's Guy from Mesa, AZ (KIWA)
Pros: Lightweight ,Very Quiet, Cons: I'm afraid to toss them around Review: The Lightspeed Zulu headset exceeded my expectations - I am a student pilot, and I find that I am able to understand my instructor better when there isn't as much background noise going on. The bluetooth capabilities are a huge plus - it makes calling dispatch prior to engine start up very nice.

The best ANR headset by Blane, a cherokee pilot from Locust Grove VA USA
Pros: Good ANR and well priced. Cons: None Review: This is a great headset, better quality, price and performance than the closest competiter, the Bose model without Bluetooth. (I have not tried the new Bose headset with Bluetooth). I found the headset comfortable and easy to use with a nice expensive look to it. The Bluetooth connection to cellular is crystal clear, especially handy for IFR clearance and cancellation.

Love my Lightspeeds! by Lindsay from Tampa FL USA
Pros: sound is so crystal clear, the noise cancellation is impressive, the Bluetooth capability for phone and iPod is very convenient, and the fit is super comfortable Cons: Price Review: I cannot say enough about my Zulus! I had a friend recommend them to me when I first started flying, but always thought the price was way too much. Plus, with all the other sets on the market I thought I could get a good headset for much less and love it just as much. I couldn't have been more wrong and wish I had followed my friend's advice from the start. The sound is so crystal clear, the noise cancellation is impressive, the Bluetooth capability for phone and iPod is very convenient, and the fit is super comfortable. I'll never switch back to the Telex or David Clarks.

Great product - but not with sunglasses by Louis Kabul from Kabul, Afghanistan
Pros: Clear, excellent ANR Cons: Uncomfortable after a few hours, poor battery life (compared to Bose) Review: The Lightspeed Zulus are incredible - providing both active and passive noise reduction. I personally (everyone differs) find them uncomfortable after a few hours of use with my sunglasses on - perhaps some good gel seals could fix the problem though! Great for use with an mp3 player etc - however i prefer to use a different cable other than the one supplied so that the music doesnt cut out over transmissions - i listen to music really softly! I have a pair of bose too - and quite frankly do find them more comfortable - but bought the LS Z's for the music and bluetooth feature! Used on: B190 & BE20

Returned Zulu Headset after 2 flights by Woodinville Flyer from Woodinville, WA
Pros: Noise dampening and comfort were very good. Cons: Poor quality: It kept powering off; did not connect with iPhone. Review: Initially I was really impressed by the quality of the product, then ran into 2 problems. First, it kept turning itself off after about 10 minutes of use. Having to continuously turn it back on was very annoying. I tried replacing the batteries but that did not help. Secondly, after pairing it with my iPhone I could hear iPod music very well but could not connect with the phone. When I returned it to the store they told me that several customers had quality complaints regarding this manufacturer. I just ordered the Bose A20: I am hoping for a better experience.

You won't regret your purchase by Jon from Toronto, ON
Pros: Bluetooth, excellent ANR, battery life Cons: Made in China Review: I debated between this and the Bose, and after much consideration I decided to get the Zulu. Really the only two things that were preventing me from buying it were the mic on the left side only, and I had heard the length of the mic was short. After trying it out at a local shop, it seemed like a non-issue for me. I've been pretty happy with it so far. As a student, the longest I've flown with it is just shy of 2 hours in one go, but I didn't notice any discomfort, but maybe I need to wear it a bit longer. I've used it for just over 50 hours at this point, and I just had to replace my first set of batteries, so it goes for quite some time. I haven't been using the bluetooth feature of it yet though, so that might be why. Still very happy. I only wish this product was made in either the US or Canada, but haven't noticed any issues with quality yet.

Fried after a month of use! by A Customer from Cincinnati OH USA
Pros: Very quiet Cons: Broke after a month, ear pads could be bigger, needs adapter for older planes Review: [Panel Powered] It worked just great, until it didn't. After a month of use (maybe 20 hours), I plugged it into my SR22 today and there was a terrible screech in the headphones and the distinct smell of electrics frying. The ANR feature now does not work, and the green power light will not come on, even though it is definitely on. Sound quality is seriously worse, and the ANR is shot. Very disappointed. Zulu model should have included an adapter to use in older planes as well. Will go back to Bose, I think.

Love it by Dustin from Coweta OK USA
Pros: Sound quality, sound quality, sound quality. Very lightweight. And I just look cool wearing them. Cons: Control box is upside down when headset jacks are in the ceiling Review: My only criticism is that with the headset jack being in the ceiling of the helicopter, all of the buttons are upside down. But that can be solved with the cable clips that are included.

Less comfortable than my Dave Clark X11 but quieter. by Kevin from Milwaukee WI USA
Pros: Bluetooth, good volume controls, great noise attenuation Cons: Fits a bit too tightly, does not fold up or store easily Review: I've been using a Dave Clark X11 for 3 years and decided to purchase a second headset for any passenger I might take on a flight. I was going to buy another X11 but an instructor at my flight school convinced me to check out the LightSPEED Zulu headset. The idea of having a Bluetooth connection for my cell phone really appealed to me, so I purchased it after reading numerous positive reviews. The headset seems solid and very well made. Unlike my X11, the headset does not fold up or store easily, so I cannot put it in my flight bag. Therefore, I have to use the included hard case to carry it. The case is very good protection so perhaps using it is not a bad thing. Although I don't think I have a very big head, the Zulu seems to grip my head quite a bit more tightly than the X11. Is it terribly uncomfortable? No, but on most flights I notice myself moving the headset around on my head to make it more comfortable. I rarely felt discomfort with the X11. The instructor who recommended it suggest I pull the frame apart a bit on the Zulu to make the fit looser, but I'm a bit hesitant to do that. I'll give it a few more flights to see if it loosens up on its own before I tug at it. The headset is quieter than my X11 and I'm sure that part of that is due to the snugger fit. It's a trade-off I guess. The Bluetooth connected very easily to my Blackberry Tour and it's great being able to call Flight Service or anyone else just by dialing the number on your cell phone. Another feature I like is that the volume controls for each ear have a very wide range. If I had to choose between the two, I'd probably choose the Zulu over the X11 because of the Bluetooth and better noise attenuation. However, my feelings on that may change after making a number of longer flights with the Zulu where comfort may be more of an issue.

I will be recommending this to my friends. by Tom from Columbus IN USA
Pros: Quiet & comfortable. Cons: Goes thru batteries faster than the BoseX. Review: I have flown w/ the BoseX for 3 years (300+ hrs). I have found the Zulu to be quieter & more comfortable. It also seems to be studier than the BoseX. I have flown now about 50 hrs with it & it is now my #1 choice to fly with.

I would buy this product again by Jason from Texarkana TX USA

by Douglas Bernard from New Iberia LA USA
Pros: 1.Comfort 2.Noise abatement comparable to the Bose. Cons: No internal power sorce Review: I've been using the Bose X since we purchased our airplane (05) and like the Bose. On long trips however they get quite uncomforable, too tight and ear pieces not big enough for me. The Light Speed Zulus are great and the most comfortable I've worn. I do miss the internal power sorce. Doug Bernard

Great Headset by Sohail from Los Angeles, CA

Should have bought one sooner by Chuck from Waynesville OH USA
Pros: Very light and comfortable Cons: Price Review: Never realized how heavy my old headsets were until I put these on. The seals and comfort of the earcups are the best I have ever had. The controls on the cable are much better than controls on the earcups of other headsets. The cockpit noise reduction is significant over my old sets, but I was hoping for more. I fly a Kolb with a Rotax 582 so the noise level is about as high as you can get in a homebuilt aircraft so hoping for sailplane quiet is probably a little unrealistic, duh. I would buy these headsets again in a heartbeat.

Excellent Competitor to Bose by Reade from Alpine, WY
Pros: Ear cups for those wearing glasses, Blue Tooth and Audio jack Cons: none Review: I have both the Bose X and Zulu headsets - and they each perform as advertised. I wear glasses and I like the Zulu a little better for long cross country comfort. The blue tooth and audio links are nice features. I highly suggest the coil cord. The clips that come with the Zulu are bigger and hold better. Also - for war birds and other high noise environments - the older Bose Series II headsets are by far the best. They are heavy but hild up and perform well.

Great product with great features by Mark_960 from Remsenburg NY USA
Pros: Features - Bluetooth - Music quality - Lightspeed support Cons: None Review: I've used both the Bose and Zulus in both my RV and Cardinal. I can not discern the difference in the noise attenuation. The quality is comparable between the two, but where the Zulu's stand out is in the features. The bluetooth is really nice when calling in for clearances. The music also sounds better to me on the Zulus. And best of all, it's about $50 less than the Bose.

Like 'Em by Andrew from Secaucus, NJ USA
Pros: Good looking. Feel high quality, ANR is nice, Bluetooth Cons: A little uncomfortable over my sunglasses, Expensive Review: I hate to review a product before it stands the test of time, but that aside, the headset has not been a disappointment. It is very comfortable. The muffs are kind of like a nice leather sofa. The headset is marginally lighter than my DC's. The headset works as a passive unit if you want to use it that way (or I presume, if the battery dies). I like to put the headset on before I turn on the ANR. That way you get to enjoy the way it flattens all the noise to a muted but audible level once the ANR is activated. I cannot tell if it is actually quieter but it definitely changes the pitch or tone of everything. And the radio communications are definitely much clearer.
My glasses seem to become uncomfortable more quickly with this headset than with my DC's. They don't seem to clamp any more firmly than my previous headset, but maybe they actually do. That or the shape of the muff is causing a different pressure on my sunglasses. It hasn't been anything that I couldn't deal with, but noticeable on even 1 hour flights.
One other comment. Mine didn't come with any type of owner's manual. Not sure if this is an oversight. The headset is relatively intuitive I guess but I can't see why there wouldn't be some type of owner's manual in the box. If I remember correctly, all I got was a warranty registration card (and maybe not that either???). They do come in a zippered "hard-shell" case, which I choose to leave at home so I can fit the headset in my flight bag. I haven't tried the bluetooth yet. But all-in-all, I like the headset a lot. And now, with my DC's, I have a good back-up set for passengers so I no longer have to rent a cheap set from the school.

Better than Bose by Jason from NJ
Pros: Comfort, style, sound quality Cons: None yet seen Review: I have owned a Bose X for some time, which I always thought was the best of the best. Then my airplane partner bought a Zulu. Don't tell him, but I wear his every time I fly now by myself, as it is light years ahead of the Bose in terms of comfort. My head starts hurting after an hour or so in the Bose. I've flown 5 hrs non-stop with the Zulu and almost forgot I was wearing it. Don't look anywhere else.

Amazing headset by Oliver from Germany
Pros: comfort, audio quality, noise cancelling, quality, features Cons: Noise cancellation starts making random noise in quiet environments Review: Great headset - comfortable, amazing audio quality, great features, very good quality. We also know other persons who use the Zulu who are all very satisfied with them. One of them even changed from a Bose. One (minor) bug: in quiet environments, like for example if the engine is not yet running, but the headset is on, the noise cancellation seems to run slightly crazy. It then starts to make more or less random noise. Even if the noise is not loud, it is somewhat annoying. We have two Zulus, both show the same effect, however the randomly generated noise is "different".

Review: Really comfortable on a long flight. Noise cancellation is the best. I wear glasses and the earcups go right over the frames with no pressure.

Review: I have only used to headset on about 5 flights but compared to the DC supplied by my school this thing is awesome. Even my Bose wearing instructor was a little jealous. Gotta love bluetooth.

Great headset by ROBERT from DALLAS TX USA
Pros: Great headset Cons: Price Review: I read a lot of reviews and most were as mine, very pleased with the product. I have found none of the very few negative comments to be true in my opinion. Well made, work very well and very comfortable. After letting several friends try briefly they have also purchased.

Effective and comfortable by Jose Bispo from Fortaleza CE Brazil
Pros: Comfort and noise reduction Cons: You can not use the headset directly with low impedance systems Review: [Helicopter Model] I bought exactly what I was looking for, except because lightspeed zulu doesn't have a high/low impedance switch. As a result, I had to find a device to adapt the headset to the helicopter. No matter how you slice it, all other features are great.

Our fleet of Pilots fly with ZULU by A Customer from Tallahassee FL USA
Pros: Full cupping of the ear - excellent seal / Light weight - less head squeeze Cons: It's a little un-nerving the first time you use them, fore your not sure your engine is running - it's THAT QUITE! - but you get used to looking at the MP & RPM. Review: As our profession requires multiple hours of flight time in a day as well as a multiple mission role, we have selected the Zulu headsets for comfort and quality. The Zulu is light weight and the comfort is far superior to other products we have tried. Quality in both sound and "No Sound" and no head squeeze

Quality good. Mic boom small. R-22 and R-44 pilot by Ehud from Tucson AZ USA
Pros: Sound quality; features; ANR; long cord; comfortable Cons: Short microphone boom Review: The good news: This works great as a helicopter headset. I fly R-22s and R-44s and it works great in both. In the R-22 I've forgotten to turn on ANR and it still performed flawlessly. I WOULD recommend this to other helicopter pilots. Just a note that if you're a fan of the sunglasses + ballcap + headset method, make sure the ballcap doesn't get pinched under the headset. The bad news: The mic boom is seriously half an inch too short! I have to constantly adjust it to keep it straight so it reaches my mouth. It is an irritation when I have to adjust it, but otherwise it's fine. The case is cute... but I'm not going to carry a hard case around, so I'm using my D&C soft case for it. The packaging is impressive... but I'd rather have paid less for a more conventional packaging. Overall YES a great buy. Four stars for the mic boom, none taken off for the minor nits about packaging.

by A Customer from UK
Pros: Very attractive capable headset. Cons: popping sound sometimes Review: The Zulu, in my opinion is a very smart looking headset. It is extremely comfortable and has excellent ANR capability. The control box is fairly slim line and unobtrusive. However, I fly a Dauphin N3 helicopter to the rigs and there is lots of rig worker crew changing and therefore lots of door slamming. This causes a popping sound everytime a door is slammed shut, which can get quite irritating. Also, I find the passive capability is very poor, so always carry spare batteries if not plugged into the aircraft power supply.I have communicated by e-mail with lightspeed over a few minor issues and found them to be very helpful. This is my first ANR headset so I am only comparing with Peltor and David Clarke passive.

I'm Not A Pilot, YET, But These Rock! by SUBNOIZE from GA
Review: After 39 years of wanting to be a pilot I decided to finally take the plunge. I've been a audio technician and professional studio owner for most of my life so when it comes to audio I would hope I know something about the subject. So, that said I had to get a headset as the ones in the plane are cheapies at best and greasy with nervous student sweat... I asked around and found two schools of thought, Bose X and Lightspeed Zulu.
After everyone was about to kill each other I said, "Wait, let us compare in a loud airplane and settle this once and for all!" I was figuring the Bose were better but just want more time flying. I also got two other headsets, BeyerDynamic 600s and Clarity Aloft TSOs to mix it up. It really didn't take long before I realized that the Zulus where just plain exceptional. The Bose where good but the Zulus where just better!
The sound was full bodied, clear on the high end and didn't fatigue the ears with extended use on a proper volume level. The FRC button really did make the music sound more like it was coming from two free standing speakers sitting in from of you. It really does make a difference! The Zulus also reduce the volume of the music when radio traffic is present which annoyed the hell out of me at start until the PIC reminded me that I actually need to listen to it when I'm in charge ;-) In that case, cool!
All of this said, I also tried the BeyerDynamics and Clarity Aloft on the same flight. All were really good but the Zulus were just the best. I own BeyerDynamics in my studios (DT-770) and they are beautiful headphones. The BeyerDynamics for aviation needs better ANR and passive noise management. They sound is really good for music though. The Clarity Aloft were good as well but they just flat out sucked for music (and remember I make a living making music for folks). Since they use hearing aid speakers I really do not look forward to losing my hearing. I can see why the acro guys love them, I felt naked with them in.
Bose X to Zulu = Bose has a good product. BeyerDynamic to Zulu = Studio stays in the studio and the Aviation stays in my flight bag, Zulus rule. Clarity Aloft to Zulu = OK but music and sound in general from larger drivers is just that much more rich. That said, the Gs could make that 13 ounces feel like a hundred pounds so I see where these are really good. Since Acro and Military are really close I have to hand it to my x-military friend who loaned me his CA set to test with.

More comfortable then Bose by Remy from Wichita KS USA
Pros: Comfort Review: The distribution of forces is excellent in this product. My Bose headsets, though very light and with excellent sound quality, start to hurt my ears at two hours. No such discomfort with the Zulu after even three hours. My twin Cessna is not particularly loud in the cabin due to pressurization, but I often listen to XM radio and noise cancelling is a must.

Excellent Headset! Worth the price? by mike from Ontario CA USA
Pros: Comfort Cons: Price, ease of use Review: They are very comfortable. Noise canceling works well but I am not sure it is so much better then standard headphone to be worth the price. Fairly light weight. The workmanship seems to be top notch.

Very disappointing by Eric from Tampa, FL
Pros: Comfortable, Excellent ANR, Great sound Cons: Has an out-of-box defect. (unacceptable, in my opinion, for such a high-priced product.)! Review: I bought my brand new Zulus, excited. Received them and immediately tried them out on a flight. The fit was perfect me. They are the most comfortable headset I've worn! The sound is superb and the action noise cancellation is remarkable. These replaced an ANR set that worked well, but the Zulus work even better. I jump in my plane conduct a few check satisfied they work well, call for clearance, taxi out, call tower - ready for take off. Climbing out, I was really amazed how nice they worked. As I level off... the damn things turn themselves off. I grabbed the power and switched them back on thinking that I must have brushed the switch. Everything is fine for another couple of minutes... then they turned off again. I repeated this pattern for about 15 minutes then gave up. They were becoming a hazardous distraction to me. I haven't contacted their customer service yet. I'm sure they are probably going to ask me to send them back... another week lost. Even if they fix the problem and return them to me, I'm still going to be an unhappy customer because for nearly a Thousand Dollars these damn things should have been perfect the first time.

Best headset I've ever worn by Hogarth from Oakland CA USA
Pros: Sound quality, lightweight, good-looking, extremely comfortable, lots of great features Cons: I wish there was a quick-detach for the cable so you could more easily thread it through flying helmets Review: I've only flown with it a few times but in a very loud Pitts S-2C. So far, it's the best headset I've ever used, hands-down. If you fly a lot of negative-G aerobatics, the Perrone mesh/leather flying helmet fits the headset pretty well, but those canvas ones designed for the David Clark headsets don't accommodate it. The sound quality is superb...it's great with the iPod hooked up to it too, and I'm a maniac about music sounding good.

WOW! Look what I have been missing. by Michael from Village Mills TX USA
Pros: Does everything it's designed to do. Comfort is excellent. Cons: I haven't found a single one. Review: If a product like this had been available when I first started flying, over 50 years ago, I wouldn't have to be wearing these hearing aids today. Just as soon as I can afford it, I will order another one for my wife. I am afraid to let her try it,cause I know I won't get it back. I read all the original complaints before I ordered mine, but as far as I am concerned, Zulu has corrected them all.

Lightspeed Zulu versus Bose versus Telex by Michael from San Marcos CA USA
Pros: Performs well. Buy it. Cons: $850 is too much, but given the number of hours that I fly, good ear protection is a must.. Review: I evaluated Bose and Telex before purchasing the Lightspeed Zulu. I like the audio clarity of the Lightspeed Zulu and its Bluetooth feature is nice too. Its tone quality (good treble and base response) is superior to the Bose headset that I evaluated. Its noise cancelation performance is easily equal to or better than Bose. The fit of the Lightspeed Zulu to my head including microphone positioning are good. As a CFI/CFII/MEI I fly many aircraft. The Lightspeed Zulu performs well in every environment experienced thus far.

Great product for a reasonable price - perfect purchase handling by Guido Peterzelka from Luxembourg
Pros: superb functionalities: noise reduction both with and without ANR, sound quality on your side as well as on the receiving side, quality materials and workmanship, comfortable wearing, Bluetooth connectivity. Cons: Accoustic feedback may occur when ANR is switched on and the earcups don't sit tight around your ears. Review: After some research I decided to go for the Zulu. The direct competitor products from Bose or DC might be similar in features and quality, but some subtleties directed me to the Zulu: the elegant design while made of robust and with well selected materials, the Bluetooth connectivity feature and the usage time on one set of batteries. After several hours in C172s and PA28s, both with and without ANR, I can state it meets my expectations. It is indeed comfortable, fits very well and can be easily adjusted. Doesn't lack anything - all requirements are met: very good sound quality, good noise reduction even without ANR, with ANR excellent and quiet. The mike can be easily adjusted in front of your lips, so no need to raise your voice when on intercom with your fellow crew or ATC. Comes with a very neat carrying case and a very useful adapter cable for connecting to a handheld aviation transceiver - tried it with the Vertex Standard PILOT III and that works perfect. The only negative experience I had whilst using ANR switched on was the occurance of an oscillating side noise when the earcups are not properly fitting your head - this occurs in the instances where you turn your head a long way, or when you wear sunglasses that have more than just a thin frame which afixes to your ears. This stems from accoustic feedback that occurs when noise enters through the small space between the ear cushions and your head, created by the frame of the sunglasses.

More than I expected. by A Customer from Southeast Missouri
Pros: Sound quality, ANR performance, bluetooth connectivity Review: After looking into (and trying) several differet types of headsets, I was told I should try the ZULU. The company gave me an added incentive with a $50.00 discount just before Christmas so I did and I have been more impressed than I expected. The sound quality is incredible and the ANR is beyond what I thought would be done. The bluetooth is VERY helpful when opening and closing flightplans from the plane on a cell phone and provides great sound from my Ipod on longer trips. This is without a doubt the best $800.00 I could have put into a headset. I suppose the only negative I can say is, now I have to fight for my headset when I take someone else with me in the plane.

Had never heard of the Zulu before and almost stuck to the other big brand I know! by Paul from McKinney TX USA
Pros: comfort, weight, noise canceling. Cons: Ummmm? kind of expensive, but worth it! Review: Wow! What an awesome headset. I had been looking at the Bose X until I heard someone mention the Zulu. I looked around for reviews but none of them were that great. I then looked around on some forums and saw much better reviews. It still felt like a gamble but I went with it. Seeing it online it wasn't as impressive looking as the Bose. I was really surprised when it arrived. The packaging was much like that of a Mac computer, for those Mac lovers. It came with a really nice headset bag. I'd love to use the bag but I have the new brightline bag, which is also awesome! The first time I used it I couldn't hear myself nor my instructor. We finally realized that someone had messed up the volume on the audio panel (G1000). I still could not hear myself but I thought it was how the headset worked. Kind of annoyed at this point. The next time I flew everything had been straightened out sound wise. I plugged it in and thought these are great. Super comfy! I then realized I had not even turned it on. Turned it on and thought the big man took away my hearing! Soooo quiet (we were also flying a 2009 C172 with 37 hrs which helped!). I wasn't sure about all the hype about the ENC but man what a difference. I find that I no longer move my headset around on long flights and I forget it is even there. Now I've got to upgrade my wife's headset!

Simply the best by A Customer from New Zealand
Pros: Quiet, Light Cons: Expensive (cheaper than the Bose X though) Review: I tried a few ANR Headset (including the Bose X) before buying this product and I have to say, I have never seen a headset as quiet and light than the Lightspeed Zulu. As I am flying around 5 times a week (sometimes more), it was really important for me that I would not feel any pain after long flights. I am now fully satisfied.

Expensive, but worth it by Manuel from Windhoek, Namibia
Pros: Excellent fit, ANR and comfort Cons: Mike is a bit "sluggish" when talking on intercom Review: I recently upgraded from an Avcom headset that I fitted myself with an afternmarket ANR kit. Needless to say the Lightspeed met and exceeded all my expectations. The fit is superb, I had my doubts regarding the soft earseals. My previous headset had gel seals and I was doubtfull if the lightspeeds could match their fit and comfort. So far they did. The headband is also very comfortable and I have not yet had the urge to constantly adjust their position to make them comfortable. All in all an excellent headset with superior ANR performance. One gripe though, the hotmike is at times quite "lazy" to become active. It takes an "uhm, or ah" to get it going before speaking to your collleague on the flightdeck. Communicating with ATC or normal transmissions don't seem to have this problem. I have considered if it could be the rather noisy cockpit in the 1900 Beech airliner I fly. Maybe a quieter cabin will not have this problem

Its a Bose + more, for less by Butters from San Francisco Bay Area
Pros: Muisc/phone adapters, price(in comparison), weight Cons: I wish the headband was a little smaller(for a tighter fit). With the doors off there is a fluttering sound when the wind hits the side of the earcups, but the guy next to me(wearing a Bose) said the same thing. Review: I used the Bose a number of times flying an equiped R44 (helicopter), but decided on the Zulu for the extras and the price. As far as everything else, they seem the same. The cord clips are great for keeping the controller from dangling, and the headset is much more compatable (volume wise) with other headsets, including the Bose. With my old passive DC I always had a volume war with the other guy. The ipod adapter is awsome! I even used it on a Southwest flight I took to Phoenix recently.

Quiet, Comfortable, reliable by Joel from Sartell MN USA
Pros: quiet, comfortable and reliable, blue-tooth technology Cons: some batteries can be difficult to remove; expensive (but worth the money) Review: I'm the sort of guy who can not stand parting with money unless it comes with a substantial return on my investment. I purchased my first Zulu headset for myself with the trade in program. I was impressed from the first time I wore the Zulu so impressed in fact that I purchased a second Zulu for my co-pilot. The Zulu is quiet, comfortable and reliable. The blue-tooth technology works great.

Still Testing... by Ryan from Bakersfield CA USA
Pros: Features Cons: Made in China Review: This is my first headset, so I don't have a lot to compare it to. I have used the Bose in a friends helecopter, and they seem to work great as well. I bought the Zulu for the features (which I have yet to use). During one flight the right speaker kind of pulsated, but I have only had that happen once. So far, I like the Zulu, but will keep testing it out.

Won't Use Anything Else by Rachel from Kailua-Kona HI USA
Review: [Helicopter Model] This headset is awesome. Comfortable, lightweight, with crisp clear audio. We fly with the doors off here, and get a lot of noise from the rotor that other headsets I've tried haven't done much to cut down. With the lightspeed - yes, I can tell the engine is on and the blades are turning, but it doesn't compete with the radio or intercom. With the audio input jack and bluetooth, you'll never want to take a long flight without it.

Best Darn Headset Ever by flyingslanted from Newbury MA USA
Pros: Light, compact, quiet, versitile Cons: $800 bucks but I'm cheap Review: This is not my first noise canceling headset so I can say without any reservation it's the best. Easy use, incredible clarity and versatility when you need and want it most. They are light, and love the way the ear pieces fold in for easy storage. Never thought I'd give up my Dave Clark's but I have to say goodbye to clunky-chunky Clark's.

Light speed Aviation Headset by Xavier from Puerto Rico USA
Pros: they have a nice look Cons: buy other less expensive and more confortable Review: The Lightship headset looks pretty good, however, the battery only endures less than 20 hours of accumulative use. Thus, the mike is short, it does not reach my mouth, therefore I have problems speaking with my students. Also, the headset does not feel comfortable, the fit very tight around the head.

Very nice product by Jon from Bethel AK USA
Pros: Bluetooth, passive and electronic noise canceling works well Cons: Boom mike too short Review: I fly a Beaver with a radial engine and the Zulu works much better than my Bose. Bose does not quiet low frequency noise very well and has terrible passive noise canceling qualities. The Zulu works well even if its turned off. The Bluetooth works better than my cell phone one. This is an all around good headset.

Good alternative to Bose with some innovative features by A Customer from FL USA
Pros: bluetooth, good sound Cons: mic boom too short and no solution available Review: Good headset. On par with Bose for performance as I have both. Bluetooth is nice feature to have. I find the mic boom too short. Seem heavier & tighter clamping than Bose on head so i would give comfort nod to Bose.

Awesome Headset by Nathan from Akron OH USA
Pros: Very Comfortable, Great noise cancellation. Cons: Pricey but you get what you pay for. Review: I was deciding between the Lightspeed Zulu and the Bose headset. I've had a chance to wear both and decided to go with the Zulu because I have larger ears and the Zulu's ear cavity is larger. It's super comfortable and all the added bonuses are nice, i.e. bluetooth and audio jack hook up.

Zulu vs. Bose by Michael Nudelman from CA
Pros: Sound quality, passive and active N/r,, light weight, Bluetooth! Cons: Short mic boom, left side only, handle on bag. Review: Used the Zulu and Bose on two cross contries in California' I used both and prefered the Zulu for light weight, earpeace comfort, noise cancelation was a wash, with perhaps a slight overall advantage to Bose, but Bose would occasionaly produce its own background noise. I agree with the complaints about the mic boom is too short and only on the left. Okay for pilot, but not so hot for kissing your co-pilot. The case without a handle is stupid, but my case is mostly stowed. Still, come on guys, a handle on the bag, one inch longer on the boom and 270 degrees of rotation instead of 120. How hard is that to fix? Blue tooth allowing wireless cell calls, Everything else, plus the price has me coming back to buy another set.

A better one by Kent Magnuson from Kearney,NE
Pros: comfort and quiet Cons: need to juggle them just a bit to seal up the quiet features Review: I have 2 of these in my primary airplane. Prior, I had Bose, which are also very good. I like the comfort and overall fit of the Zulu a little better.

Good Headsets! by Sean from Frankfort KY USA
Pros: Lightweight, confortable, bluetooth, dual volumes and standard accessory jack (audio in) and cable included. Cons: No handle on the carring case, shorter boom, wind distortion when in noise canceling mode. Review: The bluetooth is great! I have no problems linking them up to my Blackberry. Also lightweight and confortable. The biggest pain is the lack of a carring handle on the hard case. The mic boom is a tad short but no big deal. If you have the window open with the engine running you get some loud distortion from the noise cancelling. Helicopter pilots complained of the wind noise too.

Pros: Outstanding Cons: none Review: I beleive the product is outstanding. The ANR is far better than I expected. Buy it now by Bill Brockhaus from Monroe, WA USA
Pros: quiet, comfortable, music and bluetooth phone interface Cons: expensive, VERY loud if you let batteries go dead Review: [Zulu Helicopter Coil Cord] I put off buying this headset for quite some time for two reasons. First because of the cost and the second was a concern that I would not be able to hear slight changes in pilot environment like rotor RPM. I regret having waited so long, I can still hear the RPM changes and it is SO much more comfortable that my old David Clarks. It is so quiet and the music interface is wonderful.

Worth it by Tyler from Grand Forks ND USA
Pros: comfortable, and music sounds really good while flying Review: I bought this headset and really enjoy it. This last weekend I had a alternator failure and lost power in my radios and used the bluetooth feature and called tower to get landing clearance, it worked out really nice.

new lightspeed zulus by JOHN from SONORA CA USA
Review: I've been flying a Cessna 172 with Lightspeed Zuluz for 4 weeks now. They certainly are comfortable. I also like the metal used and all he materials look the highest quality. Sound is good, air traffic and inside communication is much better than the headset I was borrowing.

zulu by lynn leavitt from Kamas Utah
Pros: fits well Cons: Cost to much for the quality Review: I have had this headset for 2 years I have 5 headset in my plane the zulu cost MORE than the other 4 combined and is the worst headset in my plane. It has been sent in twice and still is not right, At this point I would not have another set that was zulu.

Unprecedented! by steven from Springfield OH USA
Pros: Clarity, quality, style, comfort Cons: Some would say price but what you are getting for your money is well worth the price! Review: The first time I put the Lightspeed Zulu on my head, I knew I had made a great decision! This headset is truly one of a kind. The clarity offered is nothing I have experienced before. The headset is quiet and light. They offer great passive noise reduction but the moment you turn on the active noise cancelling you will be blown away! The Bluetooth connection and auxiliary input puts this headset out of reach of any other headset. As soon as you put this headset on you will realize that the $850 purchase you just made was an investment in comfort, style and the greatest headset experience you will ever have. If this headset ever wears out and diesI will be purchasing another one in minutes! Worth every penny!

Light and comfy for the long haul by David C from Oakland, CA
Pros: Light, comfortable, ANR is effective and doesn't drain the batteries Cons: Noise tends to escape into the headset with a turn of my head Review: I took this headset on a day-long trip from Oakland all the way up to McMinnville, OR (where the Spruce Goose is stored), and felt no discomfort after arriving (~5 hrs). I used to have a Telex ANR classic that would give me a headache after about 1.5 hrs of usage. Comfort-wise, this headset is the best I've ever used. The bluetooth function seems to be finicky depending on what phone you use. If you use a Motorola phone, for example, you may have to flip a DIP switch in the battery pack for it to work correctly (my BT wouldn't work if I had my mic jack plugged in). A quick email to LS tech support fixed it. My BlackBerry is different, so be sure to test it out at home before using it in the airplane. The ANR system is very lenient on the batteries. Either I don't fly much (and I'm flying 2x-3x a week nowadays), or 50 hours is a long time! However, the seals around the ears don't seem to work well if I turn my head one way or another. Noise seems to escape and come into my ears. Hence my 4-star rating. Passive noise reduction is adequate, but the ANR makes a night and day difference. Since it uses AA batteries, I don't see a reason why you wouldn't use the ANR system. I'm currently an instrument-rated commercial applicant.

Light, clear, comfortable even on long flights by suzanne from omaha NE USA
Review: The Zulu is light, very comfortable even with glasses - and on a flight of 9 hours in one day never put uncomfortable pressure anywhere as other head sets can. The clarity is excellent. Well worth the investment.

Bye-Bye Bose... by CT Arrow from CT
Pros: Finally useful features like bluetooth! Cons: Short boom mic Review: I love Bose products and have used the Bose X headsets for about 5 years. I always thought they were the best up until now. I had an opportunity to try the Zulu and have never looked back! I bought 2- Zulu's and the Bose went on Ebay! The Zulu is very comfortable and the audio is superb. I love the abilty to fine tune the audio "highs and / or "lows". Bluetooth is awesome and useful! Thanks Lighspeed for bringing a solid headset to Market!

Excellent headset by Roger from Union ME USA
Pros: noise attenuation great, bluetooth helpful. Cons: should have a carrying handle on case. Review: I use the headset daily flying a regional jet. The headset works as advertised. I also use the headset flying piston airplanes, again it is joy to have the noise attenuation. After flying 30 years, it's the best headset I've ever worn.

Somewhat disappointed by A Customer from Tinley Park IL USA
Pros: The noise reduction is significant. Cons: Obviously, the lack of true stereo. Review: I realy looked forward to getting my new headphones, but unfortunately they aren't what I was hoping for. I noticed immediately that I was not receiving true stereo. The left ear was much louder than the right. I still have not resolved this issue.

Better than Bose - hands down! by Robert Boyle from North Hampton, NH
Pros: Exceptional music and voice audio quality, best ANR I've experienced, excellent bluetooth interface Cons: Short mic stalk, flaky power up process on my probably defective unit Review: In December, I bought four Bose X Headsets for my airplane after hearing from everyone that they were the best. A month later, I purchased a Lightspeed Zulu. The Zulu is far superior in every way. My airplane has XM radio and I also listen to my iPod often while on long cross country trips. The Bose headsets always sounded like the traditional audiophile joke about Bose - No highs, no lows, it must be Bose. The music was muddy and unpleasant to listen to. I just accepted that was the way it would be in my airplane with the "best" headsets. I also often need to call for clearances or to let people know I have arrived or I am departing an airport. This was always impossible with the Bose headsets because they don't have a phone interface. The Zulu music and voice XM/iPod sound quality ranks near or at the top among the best headphones I've ever used - not just aviation headsets - really high quality audiophile music headphones included. The bluetooth interface is excellent. I can talk on the phone while on the ground or in the air and the people I'm talking to have no idea I'm even near let alone inside an airplane. I actually talked on a conference call using the Zulu without muting my mic and nobody on the call had any complaints and everyone could hear me fine! The headband is more comfortable for my fat head. They definitely do a better job of passive noise reduction and I think the ANR is better too. I have two minor complaints - the headsets don't always turn on the first time I power them up. I need to call them to take care of it, but it hasn't been annoying enough to make me do it yet. I think it isn't detecting the right voltage from the plug since it flashes red and the book states that is due to a low battery. I use panel power with a LEMO connector so there isn't a low battery. The second complaint I have is that I have a fat head and the microphone doesn't reach my mouth. It ends at my cheek so I need to offset the left ear cup a bit to have it in front of my mouth to talk directly into the mic. This isn't usually a problem, but it doesn't feel right having it to the side of my mouth. Overall, if you are considering the Bose, try the Zulu also and I think you will change your mind.

Simply the BEST by Bob from Fountain Hills AZ USA
Pros: Wearing comfort, active noise reduction Cons: Strange case, I like the older style case better Review: [Helicopter Zulu] This is the most comfortable headset you can buy, in my opinion. The noise cancellation completely eliminates the headache I used to get when flying the helicopter. The microphone gain is adjustable, which I needed to do in order to fly with the helicopter doors removed. And MyPilotStore.com gave me the best price I could find anywhere! Great product, great service, what more do you want ?!

Great Headset. by David from Las Vegas NV USA
Pros: Works great at noise canceling. Love the dual ear volume adjustment. Great Stereo sound. Cons: Mike can only be on the left-side. Makes it cumbersome for right-seat flying. Review: This is a great headset. As compared to the Bose, this is definitely better. It's great for long X-C flights.

Quality headset; my preference by D40 Fred from West Palm Beach, FL
Pros: Sound quality, comfort fit, light Cons: Mic can not be moved to other ear Review: I own both Bose X and the Zulu. The comfort and quality of sound in a GA single engine is better than what I get from the Bose. High quality mic, very easy to wear. The bluetooth and music features are of no interest to me. If both Bose X and Zulu were at the same price I'd still pick the Zulu. The Bose X is also a good headset, but for $150 more than the Zulu why pay more without getting more? Rating sound quality in my single I would rate the Zulu above the Bose slightly.

by Benjamin from Butler PA
Review: Exactly as described and then some. I recently just changed my batteries for the first time. Log book indicates 51 hours of use. I've not used the bluetooth function. Most of the locations I deal with have an RCO. I fly left and right and the non-reversible mic hasn't bothered me to date. I was the type of person who always said that ANR headsets were overpriced and unnecessary. I was an immediate convert and ate my share of crow. You will be happy.

This is an AWESOME must have! by Bo Gercke from Phoenix, AZ
Pros: Bluetooth, Front Row Center, Active Noise Reduction, quality of sound, comfort Cons: Cuts out occaisionally with in cabin comms. Review: After flying around the world several times on Air Force heavy aircraft and using a vast assortment of headsets, the time came for me to buy my first headset. For years I dreamed of being a Bose X headset owner. When it came time to do my homework on noise canceling headsets, I came across the LightSpeed Zulu. For me, technology is a big deal. Cutting edge stuff generally does make my life easier. I am huge on functionality. I don't care if it looks "cool" but I do care if it works, as advertised all the time with minimal issues. When I read about the Zulu, and compared it to the Bose, two things struck me. 1. Bluetooth: A. I can use my phone while I am flying with no extra cords. B. I can listen to music from my iPod, or Blackberry while flying. Those were two big things for me. 2. 5 Year manufacturer warranty. I called LightSpeed directly, and talked to the guys over there asking about every aspect of this headset. They were GREAT, and extremely accommodating.
I was sold on the Bluetooth from the get-go, and with Bose confirming that they had no intention of changing the design of the X, or designing a headset with those features, I was sold on the Zulu. This headset has been in a P-51, Corvalis 400, 182, and 172 thus far. I am nothing less than amazed every time I start an aircraft and hit the power button on the Zulu. Pressing the FRC button, the voices in my head become rich, full, and more clear. It is a symphony of voices in my headset! The Active Noise Reduction (ANR) stifles the greatest of noises, including the mighty Merlin Rolls Royce V-16 of the P-51 with the cockpit open. Whether talking to ATC, or the others in the aircraft, the voices are easily manageable through various volume controls, whether on the radio, or on the headset's sliding volume control. Flying alone, the addition of my music, from my interface is something Sirus can't match. I can freely select who and what I want to listen to with no attached cords. That alone increases my ability to work freely in the cockpit. While flying, should I need to make a call, I can do so. When ATC speaks, the person's voice on the phone decreases by 80% to allow you to communicate with ATC. This applies to music as well.
Ok, so the wizardry is clearly there on this headset. Sexy, yes. High tech, yes. User-friendly, yes. So what about comfort? With flights lasting anywhere from 1 to 4 hours, I have absolutely no issues with the comfort of this headset. It is light and fits snugly, but not tight. I cannot say anything more about comfort because it's like comparing the fit of a hat. A hat fits very well, or not at all. I will NEVER wear a hat that doesn't feel great on my head. This headset is akin to a great fitting hat.
What does it lack? Nothing. In fact, LightSpeed even includes the cords one needs to make a phone compatible with the headset, though I don't need mine. What could it do better? The only issue I've had is that it cuts out, as does every other headset. It cuts out only when communicating in cabin, but not with ATC. Very rarely does it cut out, but it's something that I've noticed.
Bottom line, Bose has met its match, and been defeated. I believe that Bose thought they were unbeatable in the aviation headset market and got showed up because of their arrogance, or lack of ingenuity. LightSpeed matched Bose in comfort and beat them in quality of sound, and functionality of headset.
And a distant last thought for me; The headset looks great. Everytime I pull it out of its case, I think about what a good looking headset I own, and I look forward to the flight because of the quality of headset that I am wearing.

Cheap plastics by Mike from Martha's Vineyard
Pros: Price Cons: Quality Review: Plastics break down, Customer service is very pleasant and responsive - though little consolation when you must keep returning the product for repair. Bought 2 Bose units: great, light though a bit pricey - trouble free.

High quality, very comfortable, great features by A Customer from Missouri
Pros: Comfortable, competitive price, unique bluetooth features, great quality Review: As an instructor, I've flown a variety of aircraft, from Cessna 150's to King Air's. The zulu headsets offer great ANR and sound quality no matter what type of plane. The ear cups are far more comfortable than most ordinary headsets, even Bose, and the head pad doesn't hurt the top of my head after a full day of flying (unlike many lightweight headsets). The bluetooth functions work great with my cell phone. People can't even tell that I'm flying while on the phone. Music streaming is simple with the aux input or the bluetooth. This is a great buy, cheaper than Bose, and an exciting product for pilots.

Best Headset on the Market! by Bryan Love from Atascadero, California
Pros: Superb sound and great features, especially for long cross country flights. Cons: A little rough on the pocketbook, but well worth the price! Review: This headset is.......well......the best out there! After recently purchasing a set, I used them and loved them. So I figured I would let some other pilots borrow them......what a mistake! It took forever to get them back! They don't want to use their other headsets after experiencing the Zulu. The most popular feature, the Front Row Center (FRC) button that is basically a surround sound was the most raved about by the other pilots. I was made fun of initially for having a headset that did everything but make me a cup of coffee until they borrowed them. All I heard was how they cant wait to "trade up" to the zulu's. Great product at a reasonable price. Cheaper than the "other" brand and better all around!

Quality Headset by Mark from Bakersfield CA USA
Pros: Superior comfort, and noise cancelling quality. Cons: You can't buy both cords and switch as needed between battery or panel power. Review: Very comfortable headset. Much more suitable for long flights versus the Bose. I believe just a bit quieter as well. MP3 and Bluetooth options are a huge plus. Would certainly buy this again. And 100.00 less than the Bose.

Great features, more noise by A Customer from New York, NY
Pros: Bluetooth and auxiliary connections Cons: Bulky, less effective NR Review: I purchased a Zulu to go alongside my Bose, and have been alternating between them to compare. The Lightspeed excels in its features--the bluetooth and aux inputs are great, and worked well with my iPhone (though there is no side tone when talking on the phone, a bit disconcerting). It underperforms the Bose slightly in noise reduction, particularly when turning the head: the ear cups don't seal as well for me as the Bose, so when I move I get bursts of noise. It also was slightly less comfortable than the Bose for long trips, but still perfectly acceptable--no headaches after 4+ hour flights. The Zulu is also quite a bit bulkier than the Bose, and the holding case provided is very hard to use: it has no handles so must be carried inside another bag, which makes it essentially useless. Another annoyance is that the power LED is very bright; this was annoying when flying at night & forced me to cover it up. Battery life is fine, so far I've flown 25 hours (1 hr bluetooth) on alkalines. Overall it is a great headset (I've been comparing it to the best), and the one to choose will come down to your personal tradeoffs. If you use aux inputs/bluetooth for music or phones and can give up a bit on noise and bulk, go with the Zulu. If you don't care about the Zulu's extra features, get the Bose.

Excellent Product by A Customer from Palo Alto CA USA
Review: This headset is really good. The noise reduction is better than provided by my Bose headset. Even though this is a fixed wing version, I use it for helicopter flying and am very pleased with the results( a plug adapter is required for heli use with the fixed wing model). The volume coltrol is easier to use than Bose and does not get "re-set" by rubbing on objects/clothes.

Impressive by Gary P. from San Diego, CA USA
Pros: Light and great sound quality. Cons: The ear sections can swivel way to far - their are no stoppers like the DC's. If you put them down one side my be ok and the other will be 180 in the wrong direction. Review: This was a pleasant surprise. I have been a faithful DC client for 25+ yrs once I got my Zulu's I never looked back. They are light and the sound quality is excellent. I have not gone through a set of batteries yet but so far so good.

Great Product by Gary from Lexington NC USA
Pros: Light weight, comfortable, bluetooth works well Cons: I would like to have seen a longer "pigtail" cable between the GA plugs and the battery/control box. No problem in a C172, but is in a Liberty XL2 Review: The Zulu headset has met my expectations. It is a solid performing headset that works well in the ANR mode, but also works good with ANR turned off. I tested the headset in flight in this fashion as I wanted to know how it would perform in the event that the batteries went dead in flight (I carry spares, of course). The headset is very comfortable to wear, even on longer cross-country flights. The bluetooth functions as good as any, and the music through the bluetooth interface is spectacular. The Zulu mutes the music when ATC or intercomm traffic is present. This is very nice as it keeps you from missing any important communication. I have my Zulu paired to my Blackberry 8830, which can stream music via bluetooth.

some would say better than bose by A Customer from CA USA
Pros: removes outside sounds for better clarity Review: After looking at many pairs of headsets and trying them out from other guys I fly with I realized that the Zulu's where the best. The bluetooth capability works beyond my expectations and so did many more features, such as clarity. My flight instructured enjoyed them so much that he traded in his more expensive Bose headset for them. Well worth the money. Don't waste money on a cheap pair.

Zulu vs. Bose by David from dothan AL USA
Pros: ANR quality and Bluetooth Cons: Headband, you need to copy the Bose design Review: I purchased the Zulu mainly due to the Bluetooth capability. I had already been flying with a Bose. I was pleasently surprised with the fit, feel and ANR sound of the Zulu and prefer it over the Bose. The Bose was only superior in the headband design which is more compact the the Zulu.

by Jim (aka "Old PIlot") from Tullahoma TN USA
Pros: Lightweight, easy to use, comfortable... Cons: Have to take time to "learn the buttons"...not really a "con", just a comment. Review: While I've only flown with it twice, I'd rate it "Quite Excellent"..at least a 4.

Would recommend by Mark from Charleston SC USA
Pros: ANR works great, comfortable for long periods when wearing over both ears Cons: Left side boom mike only. Review: Overall I like the headset. Very quiet and can hear radios very well, great with HF radio. Do a lot of overseas flying and easier to hear through accents and static. Occasionally fly right seat and boom mike on wrong side. If other pilot not using a ANR headset need to push headset off one ear. Can get uncomfortable. LED light very bright in dark cockpit. Need dimming ability. Sometimes headset does not turn off with button first time.

Great product by Doug from Santa Barbara CA USA
Pros: Fantastic noise reduction, well built, nice features, less expensive than Bose Cons: Bose may have the edge on comfort on longer flights Review: Being a relatively low time pilot with a new IFR rating, I'm no longer missing radio calls with this headset. ANR technology is worth every penny! Although I didn't fly with the Bose, I tried both on. Passive noise reduction seemed better with the Zulu and the production quality of the headset seemed a little better too. The bluetooth feature works great.

Different Use for a good Product by Danny from Huntsville TX USA
Review: The Zulu headsets hit the mark for me on my application. Using them as a communication system on an airboat. I was pleasantly suprised at how well it cancelled out the prop and engine noise. Being able to pump in some tunes is also a nice feature, The bluetooth worked well for me too.

Bose equivalent by Michael from Fort Worth TX USA
Pros: ear cup comfort, bluetooth/audio connectivity Cons: to wide Review: When it comes to sound quality and noise reduction this ANR headset is as good as any. With the added benefits of bluetooth and audio connectivity it can't be beat. If you're trying to make a decision between the Zulu and Bose X here's what I found. The ear cups of the Zulu are a little bigger and fit over the ears better, while the Bose rest on the ears. The Zulu design seems to work better for a wider head. The bigger your hat size the better the Zulu will fit over the Bose. When it comes to sound quality and ANR the two are quality equivalents. Fit is the only distinction.

Not quite as good as Bose by A Customer from Fullerton CA USA
Pros: Works Cons: Slight hum. Not as comfortable on my head as Bose Review: I hear a faint but noticeable hum from the noise-canceling circuitry. It doesn't feel as comfortable on my (big) head as the Bose X, but it doesn't clamp quite well enough on my wife's small head. (She says LS will provide thicker ear cushions, but we haven't asked for them yet.) On the other hand, I've used the Bose for quite a long time now, so I may just be uncomfortable from the change.

Would NOT buy again....... by A Customer from Denver, CO
Pros: Nothing short of Incredible noise reduction, both passive and active. Music sounds excellent through the aux input jack and FRC feature. Cons: when talking into the mic it sounds as though you are talking with your nose plugged. Turning head sometimes results in air gap noise Review: I have been using a Senhieser HMEC 25-KA now for over 5 years and decided to give the Zulu a try. I wish I wouldn't have. The sound of your voice when talking on the mic is something I cannot get over, the quality of it is really very bad. As though your talking with your nose plugged. I can not get used to the increased weight either. It is twice as heavy as the 25-KA's. And to top it off you get an annoying sound every so often when you turn your head, as though air is rushing in. I'm sure in a loud airplane this would be a great headset and these drawbacks would be worth it, but for my flying a CRJ, I will be returning these.

The cover is as good as the book!!! by LightSpeed from Reisterstown, Md
Pros: Light weight, ANC second to none I have tested yet Cons: Mic can not be used on right side, plug end of cord could be longer for rear plug in use Review: I bought both Bose's and Zulu's and returned the Bose's right away within the 30 day trial ($38.67 Shipping and ins). I REALLY tested them by using them inside a closed cab of my JD 260 Skid loader using the blue tooth function. The guy on the other end of the phone thought I was in the office.

I love these headsets by A Customer from Columbus, OH
Pros: Very sturdy, larger headset bag, 7' long cord, bluetooth, lower price than Bose Cons: Headset clamps a bit harder than the Bose Review: I have used the Bose X and Lightspeed Zulu and I prefer the Lightspeed. Like others, the mic on the left side was something to get used to but the cord is long enough to not pose a problem. Regarding the clamping force, having come from a set of Dave-Clarks, it is less than the DC but more than the Bose X. They are still comfortable though. It was also pointed out to me that my big head may increase the clamping force.

Mic only on the left side by A Customer from Monterrey, Mexico
Cons: fixed mic left side only Review: I have not been able to use the headset yet. But at first glance I was very dissapointed the mic could not be used on the right side. This is helpfull when there are 2 in the cockpit and someone is using the right seat.

Excellent headset by A Customer from Cincinnati OH USA
Pros: extremely quiet, comfortable, great features that work like they should, durable Cons: None Review: This product went beyond my expectations. Zulu tested by three pilots who are pleased by A Customer from Stow MA USA
Pros: Comfortable fit and good passive and excellent active noise cancelling. Cons: Price is a bit hight but worth it. Review: The Zulu is being used in our Bonanza. The IO-550 has challenged other noise cancelling headsets we have tried, especially on take-off, but the Zulu handles it well. We all agree that it is comfortable -it fits our ears- and quiet both passive and active. Also, it works well with our QC Avionix Battery Eliminator.

Better than Bose but has some drawbacks by Jason from Fremont CA USA
Pros: Bluetooth Cons: Turning head can result in airgap noise Review: I own both the Bose X and Zulu in an R44. The Zulu has more features and the Bluetooth phone integration works very well. Battery life is excellent. Only problem is turning of head can sometimes cause earcup to create airgap with outside resulting in a noise like rushing air. I do not have the same problem with the Bose. Having said this, I prefer the Zulu over the Bose because of the features.

one big drawback by michael from ny
Pros: comfortable Cons: mike only on the left side Review: This is a very comfortable headset with one big drawback. the mike can only be used on the left side. for a private pilot this may not be a concern. if you are an instructor or a professional pilot sitting right seat or both seats i would not recommend this headset. the 'mike only on the left side' may not seem important until you use it for a few days. every time you move the left ear piece away from your ear to talk to someone inevitably someones calling you on the radio. at that point you have to more the ear piece so the mike is usable or use the hand mike. have it happen a few times and you'll see how irritating it is, especially at 850$.

Great Headset!! Beats Bose! by NYCHeliPLT from West Orange, NJ
Pros: Extremely comfortable, great sound quality. Bluetooth phone and music jack. Cons: Mic is one side only (to my knowledge), passive noise attentuation (w/o ANR on) is not so good. Review: I'm a CFI and therefore get to see quite a few different headsets from my students. I recently tried both the Bose X and the Zulu headsets within the same day and I have to say I was much more impressed with the Zulu. I found it more comfortable and I found the noise attenuation to be considerably better than that of the Bose. The Bose headset is certainly comfotable but the Zulus are in another class... especially coming from the DC H10-56HXL headset I use they were a world apart. Plus they're slightly cheaper (than the Bose) and can be used with a cell phone or mp3 player! I'd like to get a chance to compare them to the Sennheisers which I haven't gotten to try yet but to me it's official... they're better than Bose!

Simply Amazing! by Derek from Sierra Madre, CA
Pros: Can hear everything Cons: Be careful to monitor the battery power LED...as without power they sound worse then old fashioned headphones. But should last 40 hours or so on 2 AA's. Review: OK, I'm new to being a pilot, I admit. I owned David Clark X series for Heli pilots, and I would have trouble understanding the ATC instructions clearly...sometimes having to ask them to repeat it. An instructor at my heli school got a pair of Zulu's as a gift, so I asked him if I could try them. Voila! I now own a pair and I understand everything and haven't asked anybody to repeat anything since...it is helping me make more confident conversations with ATC and the like. Great great headphones. The BOSE are good too, but not anywhere as great as Zulus. Get 'em.

Not That Impressed by A Customer from Phoenix, AZ
Pros: Overall competitive for the price but.... Cons: There is a better headset out there. Review: I tried the Zulu headset in a Bonanza Be33 recently through a standard PSR Engineering Intercom system. It was certainly an improvement over my David Clark H10 13.4 and it is certainly better than the David Clark X11 that I tried a few months back in the same aircraft. But I have to say that so far nothing touches the Bose X that I have used in both the Be33 and Be30 aircraft that I fly. ATC misunderstood my callsign twice with the Lightspeed and I am sure that it was down to the Zulu's microphone. I found the quality of the sidetone to be very poor with both the DC X and LS Zulu headsets, it became an irritation after an hour. The Bose has a very nice soft feel to the sidetone but still retains it's clarity. I don't get ATC having to say "say callsign" again quite so often with the Bose. I am not a big fan of Bose audio products in general, I feel that they are generally over hyped and over priced, but given the price of the Zulu and DC X I feel that in this case the Bose X beats them hands down. Also, the Bose seems to be more sturdy and taking every day usage in its stride.

Ready to buy two more by Rick L. Crose from Orlando, Florida
Pros: Comfortable, quiet, long lasting on batteries, very clear communications Cons: some feedback may be heard especially if you have thick temples for your sunglasses. Like all ANR's, they are terrible on passive when off or batteries die Review: I frequently fly Cessna 414A's and they are noisy, especially at takeoff power. This headset is very good. I feel that the ANR's of the other headset versus the Zulu's are comparable, however, for a hundred dollars less than that other well known ANR headset, I get one that allows bluetooth communications and IPOD connections. There are features that one must know about in order to avoid trouble. One is a switch (button) that allows auto muting of music. If you accidentally hit this button, then music may not mute during ATC or intracockpit communications. It's all about knowing your headset's capabilities. Play with the headset at home trying all the capabilities of the headset before you try them on the flight deck. As with many technological devices, a flight deck is not a good place to figure them out. My only complaint is one of some feedback heard and it came from glasses I was wearing. Once I re-adjusted my headsets, that problem disappeared. Lightspeed has fantastic customer support. While it may not happen to everyone, my experience has been far above expected support.

Really great! by Andrej Kodrun from Europe
Pros: ANR, great sound, quality, Bluetooth, Cons: acctually none Review: EN: great quality!!, all the comments seems true to me: the materials and production are great!, ANR works superb, great sound (music and ATC), bluetooth works no problem, bateries lasts 50 h, quite strong clapping force-i like it, need to find a way how to store them, then it fits in to case. I RECOMMEND THEM! Slo: odlicna kvaliteta izdelave. vse kar pise v komentarjih drzi! Odlicna kvaliteta materialov in izdelave!, odlicna aktivna zascita, super zvok (glasbe in ATC), bluetooth dela BP, baterije drzijo kot pise(cca 40h), brez baterije delajo kot pasivne, res nekoliko stisnejo-a meni ustreza!, potrebno je ugotoviti kako jih zlagati v torbico, nato pase bp. JIH MOCNO PRIPOROCAM!

Very Good Quality by Deepak from West Palm Beach FL USA
Pros: design, many features, good looking, high quality build materials Cons: bluetooth quality (its not the best, its just above average) Review: This is a very good headset, its everything you would expect when payin $900, in my opinion its even better than the bose in features and some design aspects. The only draw back I found was the bluetooth.... the quality on the bluetooth seems a bit weak, especially for a $900 headset, but its not the worst bluetooth out there its a bit above average...its definitely not the best bluetooth though. This headset gets a 4.5 in my view but due to unforseen circumstances I had to choose 4 (the .5 i deducted was for the quality of bluetooth you get with the headset...but dont take my word for it..if you really care about the bluetooth go to a store and try it out and test it for yourself). If you are looking for a headset I highly recommend this one hands down....it is better than the Bose, even the case is much better.

Greatest Headset Of All... You Won't Be Disappointed!!! by Bill G from Portland, OR
Pros: lightweight, very comfortable, bluetooth and FRC is terrific! Cons: mic has to be on the left side (doesn't spin 360*) Review: Folks, I've flown 350+ hours this year to date in all kinds of aircraft... I use it in jets, crop dusters, gyrocopters, even a P-51... there is no other headset that does as much. It works fantastic... absolutely no problems, and I use my MP3 player as well as my bluetooth cell phone. I even take it with me on commercial flights... You WON'T be disappointed!

Great When It Works by Michael from Portland OR USA
Pros: Great volume level, sound quality and noise cancellation. Cons: Chord Defect Review: Headset developed a short in the chord within 40 hours of use. Returned to mypilotstore.com for another headset (great service), the new headset did the same thing (right around 40 hours of use). Contacted the company (Lightspeed) and was told there is a defect with the chord. Before buying I'd recommend you contact the company to make sure this issue is resolved. The headset is basically worthless if the chord shorts out as the passive noise cancellation is minimal. Other than that, the Zulu is a great headset. Great volume level, sound quality and noise cancellation, and comfort.
[Editor Note: LightSPEED did discover a defect in the cord of some Zulu headsets that have a serial number in following ranges; 793303880-793305079, 793305080-793305929, 793306030-793306229, 793400001-793400160, or 3333001423-3333001440. The problem has been identified and corrected and currently shipping headsets are free from this defect.]

very good headset by William from Baton Rouge LA USA
Pros: light and quiet Review: The zulu is a step up from the 30-3g for sure. It has worked well for me. A friend used it and got a bad sqeal on one flight, but I don't know what caused that; perhaps it was a bad seal placement, but i'm not sure. It is comfortable and easy to use.

"Cheaply built and quit working within a month" by A Kirk Be 300 from Texas
Pros: worked good for about 15 hours Cons: quit working completely after 15 hours Review: We bought 2 lightspeed zulus. At first I really liked them and thought they where great. Within a month the copilots quit working completely. No sound or transmit at all. On the next leg the captains noise cancel quit even with brand new batteries. The aux port for ipods cancled most of the music for about 4 trips and doese not quite down at all now during atc or hot mike communications. No way I would do it again.

most wonderful by Maarten van Veen from Miami FL USA
Pros: there are no cons Cons: hard to find cons Review: Dear ears. We have been growing up since I heard for the first time of my life. The great pitch and wide variety of sound is valuable to me, and I thank you, ears, that I can still hear all the birds, music and songs and words whispered... Now flying I realize is a great event for the whole body, and you, being part of it, specially need a special attention, saving all the beauty we have been given only one time. To protect, and hear clearly the Lightspeed Zulu Headset is the best for mind and body! Dear collegues, I have tested the headset allong other headsets, and must say I found the sound quality the best!

Seems to be very good but to new to know. by Stan from Fresno CA USA
Pros: good sound reduction, and great sound transmision Cons: the controller on the cord is bad. Looks and feels like a cheap toy. To fragil and hard to work with. volume controls are hard to play with and the quality seems poor. AND THE CASE IS A JOKE. You can't get the head set back in without playing with it for a while Review: Seems like a good product. I liked it better than the Bose Have not been able to use them as much as I would have liked to. Let another pilot friend use them with the same results. Kept out the sound better, and the volume control seemed better. Much more comfortable around the head and ears. I bought both Zulu's and Bose's and returned the Bose's right away within the 30 day trial.

Lookout BOSE!! by R-22 pilot from Nebraska, USA
Pros: Sound, quality, aux jack, bluetooth interface, lightweight! Cons: Control box a little annoying for weight if not attached to something, if headset not adjusted tight against the ear, can have a little thumping sound in the speakers. Review: Just purchased two pairs of the Zulu headsets for my Robinson R22. I bought the fixed wing version and adaptor cable so I could use them for both helicopter and fixed wing. Also got them sooner as helicopter version was late in getting out to market. Used a set of Bose X prior to this. All I can say is these are pure pleasure for comfort and sound. More comfortable, less money, and I use my MP3 player all the time in the aux jack. You won't be disappointed! Haven't tried the Bluetooth w/cell phone yet, but am anxious to try it out as well. The Bose were nice, but I like these better for comfort, and ANR over the Bose, esp. in a helicopter.

Kudos to customer service by Mike from Planet Earth, TX
Pros: Customer service Cons: Just the size of the case Review: Bought this in March and 6 weeks later had my CFI checkride. Used them about 6 times in between. At the checkride they failed. Of all the times to fail! After wasting time with testing batteries and getting someone else's spare headset (and a minor mechanical issue), the examiner decided to postpone the ride. Talk about frustrating. I spent some time with the headset and found out there was a broken wire or loose connection inside the wire where it emerges from the earcup. I called Lightspeed and they were excellent; they sent me a brand new set in around 4 days, in plenty of time for the rescheduled ride. I know I made the right choice with them.

Excellent product by Rob from Fullerton, CA
Pros: Excellent noise cancellation (better than Bose, particularly when the battery runs out); very comfortable; very durable (uses metal parts at stress points); looks great; love the hard storage case (great protection and fits perfectly in my flight bag, compared with the larger Bose bag); Outstanding sound quality with the Front Row Center circuit; Excellent extra features (Blue Tooth and aux input) which really put above the competition (Bose) Cons: The boom mike is a little short and does not reach directly in front of my mouth. As a result, it sometime does not pick up the initial part of my communications. I would have preferred a longer boom, similar to that on the Bose Aviation X headset. Review: I had the fortunate opportunity to compare the Zulus and Bose Aviation X headphones side by side over the course of several flights (my instructor owns both and leant them to me). Both sets are head and shoulders above lower cost units in terms of comfort, quality, and sound quality. The key differences between the two units were that the Zulu has slightly more clamping pressure than the Bose, but still very comfortable (particularly after a few minutes of use when the earcups have a chance to form to your physiology). I recently flew a 3.5 hour flight with the Zulus and they were so comfortable that I forgot I was wearing them. What set's the Zulus above the Bose, to me, were the additional features they provide (aux input for music, and Blue tooth for Cell Phone), their lower price ($150 less), and their apparently more robust design (i.e., more metal) compared with the Bose. I spent a lot of time going back and forth between the two units (you can't go wrong with either), and finally decided on the Zulus for the above reasons. I would buy the Zulu agaisnt in a heartbeat (and I may need to if I my wife finds out how comfortable they are).

ZULU Headst by Ray from Georgetown TX USA
Pros: Blue tooth Cons: Noise cancelling Review: After using this headset for the 3th time, started having a problem with noise cancelling. Called the pilot shop and they refered me to Light Speed for repair or exchange. THis headset was 10 days old and still we had to go to factory for this. Factory wanted us to send it and now we are one headset short for our flights....NICE.

Good Headset by A Customer from Helena MT USA
Pros: Nice and quiet Cons: Mic does sound a bit "tinny" Review: Just as reported by others the headset is very comfortable. The sound is great. To be honest this is sadly my first ANR head set that I have used on a long term basis but I did try out the new David Cark, a couple lower brands and older LightSpeeds this one was the best. Other comments about the case being too small are rediculous. It all fits in just fine. Battery life is as advertised although I didn't use the bluetooth with out yet. Sound coming out of the mic over the intercom does sound a bit off though. All in all I am very satisfied.

As good as a Bose by Mustangpilot from Liberal KS USA
Pros: Comfort, Excellent Noise Canceling, clear microphone. Cons: Undersized case, ON/ OFF button in bad position Review: I have been using my new Zulu now for about a month. I fly professionally about 20 hours a week and so far I have not been disapointed. I have tried a new generation Bose and feel the Zulu is more comfortable and a better value. The noise cancelling works awesome and the guys I fly with tell me I am very crisp and clear over the intercom. I am not totally certain its worth the 850 bucks, but if your considering a Bose I would save the extra and go with the Zulu. More features at a better price. The case is nice, but could be slightly larger. Its great for transporting but not convient for everyday use. The only other thing I would change is the on/off switch. Should be slightly recessed so it can't be bumped and turned on when not in use. In the case or even removing it from the airplane I have bumped the button and turned it on more than once.

Loyal Lightspeed Customer by John from Santa Monica CA USA
Pros: Light, comfortable, clear, love the bluetooth! Cons: So quiet sometimes hard to pick up differences in rpm change Review: As a student pilot, I had one of the lower end noise-canceling headsets. The Zulu came out, and as a treat for myself for passing my checkride, I bought myself one, and I couldn't be happier. I have been using it for over 6 months now, have used it on a few 3+ hour flights, and just love it. It's light, comfortable and crystal clear.

You won't regret it! by Nathan from Wichita KS USA
Pros: Active & Passive reduction; Comfort; Music capability. Cons: Case is a little small. Review: Wow, what a great headset! This is the first ANR headset I've ever bought, and I wanted to do it right. Almost went with the Bose until I started reading about this. All of the excellent reviews convinced me to give it a try. We have the Bose in one of our King Airs (C-90) at work, so I'm glad I'm able to compare the two. The noise canceling is amazing, and it's very, very clear. I feel that the Zulu surpasses the Bose with the Passive reduction- it seems to do a bit better. The headset is VERY comfortable! My old David-Clark headset was so uncomfortable, but, after wearing this headset for 5-6 hours on a trip, my head was not aching at all. I love the ability to plug my iPod into the headset. The system works great, especially the auto-mute feature. The looks of the headset are really nice and sophisticated. If I had it to do all over again, between the Bose and the LightSpeed Zulu, I would buy the Zulu in a heartbeat. I'd say it's equal to or better than the Bose.

Compared to DC H10-56HXL helicopter ANC headset by Mike from Planet Earth
Review: I first started flying in an R22 with a cheap set of passive Avcomm. They were okay until I flew for 2 hours or more a day, when they would cause ringing in my ears after the flight. That made me decide to look for a good ANC set, and after several days of research, I chose the DC H10-56HXL. I flew around 3 times with those and returned them in exchange for the Zulu. I have a review over there. I bought these when I started flying the Schweizer 300, which is a pretty loud helicopter. The Zulu is a marvellous headset. Very light, well made, fits around the ears rather than crushing them to death. After 1 hours flight I hardly feel like I have them on; I will not have a problem on endurance flights. The Good: 1. ANC is fantastic, it is almost down to a whisper in this headset. 2. Build quality is very good. 3. Bluetooth, a great feature if you use it. I don't. Easy to set up. 4. Did I mention comfort? Extremely comfortable, light as a feather. 5. Comes with a HARD case. Nice feature, lightspeed. The Bad (none of these cons are bad enough to influence your decision to buy): 1. Passive NR is nothing to write home about, so don't fly without the ANR switched on! 2. The case. Although it's hard and included, it's a tad too small. Makes for a tight squeeze, especially when you need the additional GA-Heli converter cord. 3. The battery/control box is not thought out as well as it could've been. It's long and roundish, like taping 3 pens together, which makes it not very convenient to store. I had to come to some fancy cable tying arrangement to stop it from dangling dangerously close to the center collective. Maybe if I'd bought the heli model I wouldn't have that problem because the heli model has the coiled cable. So that part is my blunder, but I plan on using them for fixed wing too, so I was looking ahead. The battery box should be square or rectangular like the DC H10-56HXL, and with a belt clip too. The Ugly: If you are buying a Bose headset in a time when the Zulu is available on the market, I think you have not researched your purchase or are buying them to impress your peers. The Bose fades in comparison. I tried them for one flight and could not wait to get them off my head.

Excellent by Jim from Benton KS USA
Pros: Comfort, ANR, Bluetooth Cons: Price Review: I love it, but in fairness, I went from cheap loaners at the FBO to these and there is no comparison. Much easier to communicate with.

"Everything they say and more" by Nick Rinaldi from Philpot KY USA
Pros: Great high quality construction and easy to use Cons: Just a tad too much clamping action Review: This headset excedes every one of my expectations and more. Has to be the quietest I have ever used and I have used alot including the Bose X . The bluetooth is outstanding as well as the front row center feature. A 10 on every scale.

My ears hurt... by Chris the CFI from Texas
Pros: Very comfortable, good features, worked great (most of the time) Cons: Ear piercing squeal Review: When this headset worked, it worked great. Unfortunately, every once in a while it would emit an ear-piercing squeal that was loud enough to hurt my ears. Not a very safe thing to have happen in an aircraft. I still gave them 2 stars because I'm guessing it is an isolated problem. Lightspeed has been helpful, and I am waiting on my replacement set.
UPDATE: Oct. 7, 2008: My first one emitted an ear piercing squeal on occasion. The replacement that Lightspeed sent worked for a while, but then the ANR shut off randomly and now stays off. There seems to be a short in the cord, which is mentioned in some other reviews. Maybe I should have waited longer before buying a new product. I have sent the headset in twice in ten months. Unacceptable. Works great when it works, bluetooth is good for talking to FSS on the ground

WONDERFUL by A Customer from IL USA
Pros: Comfortable Cons: Expencive Review: I Love the headset. The only thing I can complain about is that sometimes with sunglasses on it causes a headache. Other than that the noise canceling is amazing. I go to Flight school At SIUC and alot of the people that have put them on have nothing but good to say.

best headset on the market by jeff from Tampa FL USA
Pros: see above comments Cons: none that I can see so far Review: Best headset I have used yet. Very well made. Sell your Bose, get a pair of these. iPod used through the included cable is fantastic. Much better than piped through your intercom. Also, the use of a cell phone is a real nice feature down at low altitudes.

Great Headset by Joel from Los Angeles CA USA
Pros: Comfort, noise reduction, mic cut-through, features Cons: Volume sliders move too easily Review: I'm a student pilot, and this is my first headset. But I've either flown or ridden in other aircraft where the Bose ANR headsets were supplied. I find that the Zulu is 10 times better than the Bose. The ability to cut background noise, and ability to provide mic feedback is just so much better. The only thing I'd like them to change is to have detents on the volume sliders; they move too easily if they brush up against something.

I would buy this product again by A Customer from Perth Australia
Pros: Very comfortable on the ears, light weight, good voice pickup on the mic Cons: drumming in the ears Review: The lightspeed zulu performs very well as a unit however i have found one major problem. If not fitted correctly it can develop a drumming sound which varys from background annoying to quite loud and distracting. It can usually be stopped by adjusting the seating position over the ears however small changes such as wearing aviator sunglasses can take a few goes to get it just right. This noise is particulary distracting when trying to do an approach in IMC when the leans are already setting in

Great Headset; but by LKennedy from Little Rock AR USA
Pros: comfortable fit, great noise reduction; great gizmos and other pilots ask to see it... Cons: a little snug to fit in its case, but once you get the hang of it..works fine Review: I previously only wore the grean DCs through flight training. So I don't have much to compare it to. I went off a recommendation of my CFI who had this headset. I have no regrets With that disclaimer.. It more than met my expectations. In a 172 its quiet. Controls are good and you are able to adjust volume accordingly. The ability to interface with your cell and MP3 is neat, but I'm not the type to use while flying...at least not yet. If you can afford to splurge, get this headset

very comfortable with great noise canceling by Brian from Plainwell MI USA
Pros: most options for the price Cons: intercom level compatibility Review: I was very excited to get my first noise canceling headset, especially since I have been using the same pair of analog David Clark’s for the past 8 years. I read as many reviews as I could on the new Zulu headset, most claiming it was the best headset they have ever used, even better than the $995 Bose which has claimed top dog for many years. So I figured I would give them a try. I had just started instructing in Cirrus aircraft, and from what I had heard they are very noisy airplanes. My Standards instructor had a set of Bose, so one day when we where on a flight we flew out to a destination, stopped switched headsets and flew back. To be honestly truthful I thought both headsets where very close in noise canceling and comfort. I know that some reviews claim the Bose is like a clamp on the head, when actually it seemed to me the LightSPEED actually clamped a little harder. After arriving back to our home airport while debriefing we discussed our findings. We both agreed there wasn’t much difference, both very comfortable, great sound quality out of both of them, and really the only difference between the two was the clamping pressure. Then was talked about price and feature, for 150 bucks less you get mp3 port and Bluetooth for your cell phone, and agreed it was a no brainier. As for the sound quality of the Zulu it is great, but I have noticed some compatibility issues with other headsets on the intercom. It seems like I have to turn up my intercom and headset to hear ATC when the other pilot can hear them fine. In doing so it makes the other pilot extremely loud, which is very annoying, but I’m no electronics expert so it could just be me. Another issue my instructor brought up was the batteries, he claimed that the noise canceling on his Bose eats batteries, which I have head from many Bose owners. I have flown about 30 hours so far with the batteries that came from the factory and still haven’t had to replace them. I don’t know if this is good or bad, but seems acceptable to me. Well I hope this helps with your selection of a new headset. Oh and by the way a buddy of mine has the new David Clark X-11 and is about to put them on eBay, he’s not happy at all with them. He says when they designed the noise canceling portion they didn’t take in to account all aircraft, and that they only work good in few aircraft.

Comfortable and great noise reduction by A Customer from LOS ANGELES CA USA
Pros: Comfortable, excellent noise reduction Cons: Bluetooth to the phone is hard to hear on the other end Review: A very comfortable ANR headset with excellent features. I do have some issues with people on the other end of the line hearing me when using the bluetooth link to my cell phone.

The best. by Andrew the crazy haole. from Hawaii
Pros: Awesome ANR, super comfortable, long batt. life, great for working pilots. Cons: The case fits like a two-sizes too small wetsuit, tight in all the wrong places. Review: I fly alot. 7 hours a day, short legs, lots of turns. The auto-shutoff feature works well, preserving battery life. My first word WAS "wow" when I put the thing on. Super light, super quiet. The leather is supple, like slipping a lazy boy over your ears. The only fatigue I get now is from flying so much...haha. The sound is so good, I'm considering producing some music with zulu on my laptop so I don't bother my roommate. FRC is awesome.

BE CAREFUL FOR USEAGE. by JAMES from ARLINGTON TX USA
Pros: Bluetooth and MP3 works great.. Has very good sound system. Good volumne controls for speakers. Very light and feels good over ears. Cons: DOES NOT WORK PROPERELY WITH HANDHELD RADIOS. Review: PURCHASED TO USE ON A POWERED PARACHUTE. USING WITH A HANSHELD VERTEX SPIRIT 710 RADIO, UNIT WILL TRANSMIT BUT WILL NOT RECIEVE. BLUETOOTH FOR TELEPHONE AND MP3 WORKS VERY WELL. AFTER RESEARCHING ONLINE, OTHERS ALSO WERE HAVING SAME ISSUE WITH RADIO. "ELECTRONICS NOT WORKING CORRECTLY WITH HANDHELD RADIOS"

Great Headset for the most part! by Patrick G. Fitzpatrick from Dallas, TX
Pros: Comfortable, excellant ANR, sound quality Cons: The screaching noise in my left ear!! :) Small case. Review: I have just used my headset twice and the quality is pretty remarkable compared to my old antique headset. Unfortunately, I ran into an issue on both flights where I would get a high pitched noise in the left ear piece where it made it almost unbearable to wear the headset. Wasn't a constant noise and at one point, my instructor was able to hear the noise through my headset and his bose ANR headset (not via the intercom), if that give you an indication of the noise level. Also, the aux in on the battery pack seems to be loose where if you touch the connection, the audio cuts in and out. Sending back the headset to lightspeed who have been very helpful. All that aside, I have been very happy with the product when it was working as designed! Comfortable, excellant ANR (better than bose), great sound quality! I will post another thread with an update on the repairs.

Best Headset Out There! by Flyin' MAN from Redlands CA
Pros: Very, very comfortable even during long flights. Cons: Absolutely none. Review: Fantastic all-around. The case is on the small side but since I use a pilot's bag, I stored the case. Everything else is pure perfection. Would purchase over and over and over again. BTW- The Bose feels outdated and cheap in comparison.

Perhaps some competition for Bose by thomas from asheville NC USA
Pros: very good audio interface (muting for example is excellent) Cons: of course everyone wants to pay less Review: Have tried many headsets including early Bose and other Lightspeed models. The Zulu is solid but no alchemy here. All works as advertised, including the cell phone and audio interface. Noise attenuation is very good. The missing link (in all headset) is perfect comfort; so far, this may be as good as it gets. TB A-36

Exceeds the Bose for features/better price as well by BILL from MILWAUKEE WI USA
Pros: makes Bose seem very overpriced....Zulu's FRC button turns conversation into a hi-end sound experience. Cons: More spring in the clamp means a little more pressure on the head.....suits me; my wife said hers were too tight. Review: Met my expectations in every respect for noise reduction and sound quality. Slick packaging and nice carrying case included. A little more fussy time spent on getting it back into the carrying case until you figure out that it works differently than the Bose....cups up not cups down. No complaints about comfort or fit from me, even first time used.

Wow, what a headset. by Brad from Bountiful Utah
Pros: Bluetooth conection, clarity, comfort. Cons: The case protects well but is very small. Review: I used the Zulu for the first time just the other day. After the first 30 minutes of the flight, I thought the Zulu performed adequately but not stellar. Conversations with ATC and my instructor were clear but I expected a little more. However, I felt the quality was better than my passive Telex set. Then I made a discovery. Being an ANR rookie and a student pilot, I had not turned the headset on. I pushed the on button to activate the ANR and was shocked at the distinguishable amount of noise reduction and the increased clarity of communications. At that point I knew I had made the right purchase. With its extreme comfort (low clamping pressure), its Bluetooth feature for my cell phone and the high quality sound produced through its auxiliary input for music, this headset has it all. I paid the retail price of $850 from an Ebay [shop].

Best Headset I Have Ever Worn by Hugh from Dothan AL USA
Pros: Very Light, Best noise cancellation I have ever used, Very Comfortable, Bluetooth works great, Cons: Hard shell case too small, the headset barely fits into the case with the adaptor wires. Price. Review: This is a great headset. I have had DCs and other Lightspeeds prior to this set and none can compare. This headset is very light and the most comfortable set I have ever worn. Switches are easy to use and the NC [noise cancellation] works great! Bluetooth is very easy to set up and works great so far. One problem I had when I bought it was I fly helicopters and Lightspeed is having trouble with "hotmike" in small helicopters. They fixed a headset and sent it to me overnight and it worked great. I have not had any other problems since then. Overall the best headset I have ever worn.

I'm going to keep my hearing by A Customer from Grand Prairie TX USA
Pros: The all in one package Cons: Haven't found one yet Review: This headset is everything that is says it is. I was starting to lose my hearing from the previous set I was using. I was so happy I finally decided to make this investment. It was worth every penny and now recommend it to all of my fellow pilots.

I would recommend this product to anyone by Scott from Saint Cloud MN USA
Pros: Very lightweight, great active noise reduction, great squelch response and adjustability. Cons: The control module is a little bulky and heavy and the cord cold be of a material that is more flexible in cold weather. Review: This headset is very comfortable and lightweight. Outstanding noise reduction and very clear sound quality. Noise reduction takes out 95+% of unwanted nosie but still enablesme to hear the engine. Music from MP3 source is exceptional.

Lightspeed has a real winner by L Schmied from Argyle, Texas
Pros: Superior comfort, sound quality, Bluetooth, Music input well designed Cons: Hard case is great, but a little small Review: I had a distinct advantage when I bought this headset, because my wife bought me a new Bose 10X headset for Christmas. I heard about the Zulu and wanted to give it a shot since I already had a 15XL for 6 years and was amazed at their customer service.(had to bring the 15XL in for repairs twice and they fixed within a week, door to door, and under warranty, even though I think it expired. The didn't even ask!) I bought the Zulu so I could do a side by side comparison before the 30 day trial period on the Bose was up. I fly for a Pt. 135 Freight carrier, flying an A-36 Bonanza. First leg I used the Bose, and second leg I would use the Zulu, then switch again for comparison purposes. Well I never got to put the Bose on because while the Bose was very good, this Zulu is that much better in sound quality and comfort. The Bose has two pressure points on your head due to the way the headset folds. The Zulu has none, and is quite comfortable, infact the best headset I have ever worn. I love the Blutooth feature and let my wife try it. I played a song for her and she thought it was my stereo monitor headset! The sound was that good. She was happy that I tried the Zulu and still got credit for a great Christmas gift! The only con is the case is a little small and might cause some problems down the road with the cord. I called Lightspeed and they are on the potential problem by making the case a little bigger. You will be able to trade the smaller case in for a bigger one if you ask for it. A solid buy. Two things a Commercial freight pilot needs in the cockpit these days is a Garmin 496 with XM and a Lightspeed Zulu. Well worth the money! Thank you, Lightspeed for listening to the consumer!

Good product by R Gary from Bossier City LA USA
Pros: Great noise reduction and comfortable. Cons: Carrying case is quality but a little small. Review: The headset works as advertised. Good noise reduction and better than my old Bose set. This headset met all expectations and the only thing I had to do was replace the original batteries that came with it, they only lasted about 15 hours.

by Michael from Eastsound, WA
Review: To me, this headset feels and sounds similar to Lightspeed's Thirty 3G in features, noise reduction and audio performance, while having a slimmer, lighter, less bulky design. It also has higher build quality, using metal in a lot of places where the Thirty 3G uses plastic. And it supports Bluetooth, which I haven't used but others may find useful.
This is the quietest, most comfortable headset I have used. Beats everything out there including the Bose.

Top Dog by Richard from McHenry IL USA
Pros: Comfortable fit. Very quiet. Cons: None yet. Review: This is easily the best headset I have used to date. I had a litlle trouble setting up the bluetooth but I missed a step and Lightspeed set me on the right path with a quick e-mail. It is comfortable and as quiet or better than the Bose. I highly reccomend this one for anyone.

Moves the ANR Envelope a Step Farther - Beat My Bose by Tonytoga from Houston, Texas USA
Pros: Far more comfortable than the Bose and just as quiet......for less money, too. Cons: Mic boom is too short......storage case a bit on the small side. Review: Lightspeed really has moved the bar with this one. In my opinion, the ultimate ANR headset has yet to be developed. I've tried them all....David Clark, Bose, Telex 50D...etc. Until now, the Bose has been the quietest but NOT the most comfortable and way too expensive. The Zulu is well thought out and while it may not be the final answer in ANR, it gives Bose its first serious rival.
In my opinion, Lightspeed's Zulu wins over Bose in every catagory. I really can forget I've got it on....it's that comfortable (I'm big headed at 8 1/4" hat size). The Bose, with its silly clam shell design, never let's you forget it's on your head and (at least on my head) is always sliding around. It's just never comfortable. As for the ANR, if the Zulu is quieter than the Bose, I can't really tell it...but it is AS quiet and it's hands down more comfortable. I'm a dinosaur and don't use bluetooth anything but if I did, it's all there and looks quite simple to use. Needless to say, the Bose doesn't have that option. I like the styling over the Bose as well. More bells and whistles and $250.00 less expensive makes it a much better buy in my opinion.
As for a comparison to the Telex 50D.......it simply blows that headset away. The audio quality is vastly superior (beat the Bose there, too)....has much better styling...is feather light by comparison (without those 3" thick cups) and is far more ruggedly built.
My only complaints are (and they are small ones) that the mic boom is a bit too short for the mic to be exactly centered in front of my mouth. It doesn't seem to create a problem with audio pick up, but it's a bit distracting. I'm used to having the Bose mic right in front of me. The storage case is a bit small too, but I commute daily in my plane and the phones are never in the case anyway, so no big deal there either.
All-in-all, this is a great headset. The Bose is now for pax........I'm wearing the Zulu.

I'm in love by NicksDVM from Holland, PA
Pros: Feather light, super comfy and audiophile quality - they look good too! Cons: Cost Review: The finest, most quiet, softest, feather light headphones I have ever used. They deliver the cleanest, most crisp sound - true audiophile quality. Within seconds - you forget you even have them on your head. I haven't played with the bluetooth or auxiliary inputs yet, but expect them to meet the same standard. I have always been a fan of LightSPEED, but they have truly out done themselves this time!!! "They're like buttah!"

Better than the Bose, more comfortable than the Stratus by A Customer from West Lebanon, NH
Pros: ANR, Sound Cons: Like all ANR headsets the case is too small Review: Yes, I had a Bose X and a Telex Strarus 50D and the Zulu tops them both. More comfortable that the Bose and Stratus, and better ANR than the Bose but equal to the Stratus. I used the Zulu 5 hours today and love it.

So far, excellent! by A Customer from Clarkdale, AZ
Pros: comfortable, noise cancel, clarity. Cons: none yet. Review: Overall excellent! Although I have only used the Zulu a couple of times, we'll see. The ANR is outstanding, makes riding in a recip real close to being in a turbojet, (close). The clarity in communication is as good as your radio can deliver. More to follow in a few hundred hours.

Mine failed after 1 month by Neal from Texas
Pros: Comfortable, quiet, fantastic music clarity, BT wireless phone interface Cons: Only lasted 1 month and died on me during a cross country flight. Review: Only had it for a month, and it suddenly failed on me. No intercom audio, no microphone. Not even in powered-off passive mode. I guess I get to see how responsive Lightspeed's warranty service is going to be. When it was working, it was absolutely fantastic: the comfort, the quietness, the music quality and the BT cellphone interface are all outstanding. I sure hope my Zulu's failure was just a fluke and warranty service turnaround will be quick, because I miss them already. My old 15XL headset is just so mediocre compared to the Zulu.

Best Headset I've Ever Owned by Howard from Issaquah Washington USA
Pros: Noise Reduction and Comfort Cons: I broke the rubber attachment of battery top to box the 1st time that I removed the top. Review: The headset arrived yesterday, and I flew with it today. It worked as advertised and is a high quality ANR that is very comfortable. I prefer the headset over a Bose that I tried earlier. It was easy to configure the Bluetooth to work with my Palm Treo cell phone

The new leader... by Aaron from Victorville, CA
Pros: comfort, ANR, sound quality, price Cons: none Review: Awesome headset - Bose finally has some real competition. While I won't say that these blow Bose out of the water, they do beat them in almost every regard. Sound quality of music alone is incredible. Passive noise reduction is decent, and ANR is outstanding. The bluetooth connection works with both music and telephone as would be expected, however the music quality is not nearly as good as using the hardwire connection. They are very comfortable with only slightly more clamping pressure than the Bose, however they feel much more 'secure' on my head. I've only flown with these for about an hour so far, but from what I've seen so far Lightspeed has a winner - highly recommended.

by Andrew from Calabasas, CA
Review: With all the pre-launch press and excitement about this new headset I had high expectations. When the Zulu arrived I noticed the extremely well-designed carrying case and the care with which the unit had been packed. I tried it on immediately -- the noise suppression is amazing. With some ANR headsets I notice a constant hum from the electronics -- but the Zulu is super quiet. The Bluetooth connection worked perfectly with my Razr phone and the auxiliary input, when connected my IPod, worked flawlessly as well. The audio quality for communications with the tower and ground, as well as phone and music are all top notch.
The carrying/storage case is very slick -- the ear cups swivel 90 degrees so the entire headset fits into a semi-rigid case with a very compact and efficient form factor.
I'm a long-time user of the Bose Aviation Headset X and it is an excellent unit. However, the active noise reduction on the Zulu simply sounds better with less hiss. The Zulu has superior features and is, in a word, perfect.
Since I received the Zulu I have a choice of tossing the Bose X or Zulu into my flight bag when I head to the airport -- I always end up taking the Zulu and not the other headset. What more is there to tell?
Great job and thanks Lightspeed!
