An outstanding product for the new pilot.

  • By Bruce from Jacksonville FL USA on Monday, March 14, 2016
  • Pros: Comfy, quiet non sweaty earpieces.
  • Cons: ??
  • Review: Almost every review said how good the product was, and they are!! They adjust and fit as comfortable as can be. Several multi-hour flights have been enjoyable. No discomfort at all. Sound reduction so good, had to listen good for the stall horn. I would recommend these and plan to buy my wife a set as soon as I get my license.

Most Bang For Your Buck

  • By LeRoy Moore from Mount Vernon KY USA on Wednesday, May 15, 2013
  • Pros: Crystal clear on transmit and receive.
  • Cons: Slightly heavy.
  • Review: I have only used 2 headsets. This one and a Sigtronics. These blow the Sigtronics away. I doubt if you can get anything more isolating than these. When I'm landing I can't even hear the stall warning. Although these are not gel they feel like they are. There is really no need to upgrade to gel. These also look really nice and professional. These are totally crystal clear on hearing and transmitting. I mean CRYSTAL CLEAR.

Practical

  • By A Customer from Anaheim CA USA on Thursday, August 6, 2015
  • Pros: As stated
  • Cons: None exactly what I expected
  • Review: Best headset I could find at an affordable price. Functional, durable, comfortable. It's not noise canceling but flying little airplanes a little noise is part of the experience. The acoustics are just fine for training or just sight seeing.

Comfortable, quiet and clear headset

  • By Frank from Plano TX USA on Monday, October 6, 2008
  • Pros: Good value for the money, comfortable and relatively quiet
  • Cons: The wires to the connectors should be more robust -- be careful because they could be easily broken.
  • Review: My instructor recommended the Telex Eschelon 20, and I'm glad he did. The sound reduction is excellent for a passive set, the headset is comfortable and the earphone clarity is very good. Also, I understand from my instructor that the Telex customer service is excellent.

  • Review: If you're thinking of purchasing a super expensive headset, don't. These are everything you need right here. They look super sharp, are exceptionally crystal clear, and the mic comes through beautifully. Although it has foam around the ears, it feels just like gel. It's a real nice dense memory foam and these puppies are very comfortable. I doubt you could tear these up even if you tried. They are built like a tank. If you were looking into getting these, just do it!

So far, so good!

  • By Scott from SW PA USA on Friday, May 13, 2011
  • Pros: price, lightweight, good sound/mic
  • Cons: nit picking about case, but that's about it.
  • Review: I've only flown 4 or 5 hours with it, but so far, I love them. I didn't realize how bad the rental set was until I tried these in flight. Everything is crisp and clear and the mic responds well. And the mic stays where you put it.

As for the feel, I hardly notice they're on. I haven't had any long (more than an hour) flights yet, but I don't foresee them being a problem. I wear a pair of Oakleys underneath them and it's very comfortable.

I would like to have seen a more structured carrying case, but the bag I got does ok. It keeps them from getting scratched up, but wouldn't protect from any type of impact.

For the price, I'm very satisfied with this headset. If I do upgrade in the future, these will be a great headset for passengers.

  • By aeonpurdue from Lafayette, IN on Friday, June 1, 2007
  • Pros: Full range adjustable boom with left or right orentation, very comfortable, volume control on headset, adjustable headband for custom fit
  • Cons: None that I can think of
  • Review: I'm a beginner pilot and the Echelon 20 was suggested to by my flight school. I am very glad I chose to purchase it. The ear cushions are very soft and comfortable while creating a firm seal to block ambient noise. The tension adjustment system works well to create a perfect fit. I definitely prefer the the fully adjustable boom compared to the jointed booms I've tried on other headsets, not to mention the boom can be rotated 180° for right or left side orientation.

This has been a great starter headset, and after a lot of research I feel it is the best option for the price. This has been a great starter headset, and after a lot of research I feel it is the best option for the price.

Great inexpensive headset

  • By IFR Archer Pilot from Gainesville, FL on Tuesday, June 19, 2007
  • Review: Our family has settled on the Telex Echelon 20 for our Piper Archer -- the kids like it much better than the others we've tried. Less headache-inducing pressure on the head. Very comfortable fit. I now have 3 of this headset. The only problem I've had was a broken wire down near the mike connector--they use fairly slim wires. They fold up nicely and I love the mike boom.

  • Review: Very good set for the money. Was not expecting BOSE quality, but have been well pleased. More comfy than David Clark's, but not quite as good noise canceling. All things considered would highly recommend!

Nice set of headphones - would buy again

  • By walter / Jersey Aero Club from belmar NJ USA on Tuesday, December 14, 2010
  • Pros: The price was right.
  • Cons: None
  • Review: They are really nice. Look expensive, feel great on my head. Have a nice well known name. Mouthpiece is nicely constructed, fits well and stays in place. I really can't see paying more. I bought it as a spare and for passenger use. I would buy another pair and use it for myself.

Great headset for the price!

  • By SoCal Flyer from Orange County, California on Monday, March 30, 2009
  • Pros: Good price, styling, & the ComfortCam adjustment
  • Cons: Would have been nice if Telex had made the adjustment cams with tension detents so that they won't rotate on you unknowingly, but a little Scotch tape prevents that invisibly.
  • Review: Bought this headset at the suggestion of the pilot store that I frequent & I think it's a great choice. Audio quality is great, both receiving & sidetone. The ComfortCam technology is brilliant. A three-position cam adjustment allows for an adjustable fit. I thought that the loosest setting still seemed a little tight at first, so I called Telex about it. Carolyn, in the service dept, sent me a set of smaller cams, at no charge, and now it fits perfect!

Super value for money

  • By Adrian Koh from N43 Braden Airpark, Easton PA on Sunday, January 8, 2012
  • Pros: Good fit, does not feel constrictive or restrictive. Boom mike stays where you put it.
  • Cons: None
  • Review: I started flying GA in 2007 and bought my echelon then. 5 years on, it still is a good as from the first day. Very comfortable and user friendly. I just did a 2.8 hour continuous flight and paired the headset with a pair of serengetti's. No problems there and very happy with the trouble-free use.

Strongly recommended as one with very good value for money.

Great product

  • By Matt from Olympia, WA on Tuesday, September 25, 2012
  • Pros: sound quality, comfort
  • Cons: none
  • Review: This headset completely met my expectations. As one of the lower cost headsets, I was a bit worried about quality. I've used it for 3 or 4 months now, and have no complaints. The headset tension/squeeze is adjustable, ear cups comfortable, mic is sensitive, and noise suppression is perfectly fine.

Good Value

  • By Jim from Punta Gorda FL USA on Wednesday, February 11, 2015
  • Pros: As stated above.
  • Cons: None so far.
  • Review: This headset was purchased for use in a Cessna Citation, a fairly quiet operating environment up front, so it has been completely adequate. It's been comfortable on 4+ hour flights, sound quality is good and volume control works well.

Good Value for the beginner

  • By william from Loganville GA USA on Thursday, September 10, 2009
  • Pros: Quality of product and sound
  • Cons: Ears hurt after about an hour
  • Review: Great set of headphones for the beginner and intermediate. Learning to fly is expensive enough without having to finish off your wallet with a set of expensive headphones. Good quality and reception. The only problem: They make my ears sore after about an hour of flying. I'm only on my fourth flight with them and everything is pretty good when it's new...We will see....

Good buy

  • By Rob from Mesa, AZ on Monday, August 6, 2007
  • Pros: Comfort and Price
  • Cons: thin wires near the mic connection
  • Review: These headphones are great for the price. A few people I fly with had problems with their David Clark headsets putting too much pressure on their head. Then they tried mine and liked the way they fit. Of course they don't have all the bells and whistles that other headsets do, but for they price you can't go wrong with this product. I have been on a 4 hour CC and did not have any issues with the comfort.

Excellent Value for Money!

  • By Richard on Tuesday, August 7, 2007
  • Pros: Inexpensive, comfortable, and not heavy
  • Cons: None as yet
  • Review: This is one headset that I find both comfortable, fairly light, offers great audio reception and clarity, and yet inexpensive. When compared to a more expensive top-of-the-line from the other makers, I find that the noise attenuation sufficient and not bothersome. Great value for money!

Great headsets, especially for the price.

  • By Andrew from Huntington Beach CA USA on Wednesday, February 8, 2012
  • Review: It's a great headset. Just after a long time my ears start to hurt from the clamping force, but I have big ears. Otherwise it's a steal for the price.

I would buy this product afain

  • By A Customer from Amissville VA USA on Monday, June 18, 2012
  • Pros: Good reception and transmission capability
  • Cons: I would prefer a cloth covering for the ear covers.
  • Review: The passive noise reduction ability of this headset is good. The fit to my head and adjustment ability is also very good. Voice reception and transmission is clear and the volume control is an added plus.
