Great book to know what you should know before flying in the mountains

  • By Ken from Bolingbrook IL USA on Thursday, June 10, 2010
  • Pros: Very informative.
  • Cons: None
  • Review: Taught me all the things that I needed to know before attempting to fly in mountainous areas. Makes pilots do their homework before their flight into density latitudes.

Excellent General Aviation Reference

  • By A Customer from Wichita KS USA on Friday, January 25, 2013
  • Pros: The book is well laid out and easy to understand.
  • Cons: Could be more concise in places.
  • Review: I haven't flown in the mountains yet, but the book provided information that was very helpful for "flatland" flying in the central plains. The sections on weather and icing were very informative. The matter of fact style and rules of thumb are great. Imeson get to be right next to Kershner on the book shelf.

  • Cons: Reading is a little slow in some areas, such as weather.
  • Review: The book seems to be full of great information. I feel the book is dated, it would be helpful to read a newer version.

too much information for experienced flat country pilot

  • By A Customer from Capon Bridge WV USA on Wednesday, June 25, 2008
  • Pros: extensive data
  • Cons: not focused enough on mountain flying
  • Review: I found myself skimming over many topics that were "old information", and in the end wondered if I had left out important information useful to the transition to mountain flying

Good information poorly written

  • By A Customer on Friday, May 7, 2021
  • Pros: If you can sift through the convoluted writing, you will get some good tips.
  • Cons: Poor graphics, cumbersome writing style, not very reader friendly.
  • Review: Although there is some good information in this book it is not organized well and it is full of grammatical and typographical errors that make it hard to read.
