Performs flawlessly, expensive & reliability dismal

  • By Kenneth E Clayton from Liberty KY on Friday, September 16, 2022
  • Pros: Unmatched performance
  • Cons: Expensive & unreliable
  • Review: Performance is unmatched!

Dislike: The USB micro connector is weak and breaks off the circuit board. Unable to recharge device. This is a common design flaw.
Garmin's repair cost is $420. Usage has been light over 3 years.

GDL52 review

  • By Ethan Baughman from Los Angeles, CA, United States on Monday, March 8, 2021
  • Pros: Garmin GDL 52 works quite well. I use it with my Garmin pilot iPad and have flown in several different airplanes mostly IFR use. I've been happy with the battery life reception of ADSB XM weather and XM radio. I used it for nearly five months straight logging about 100 flying hours . It's perfect for someone who rents multiple airplanes and is a great adjunct 2 a great instrument panel.
  • Cons: My primary issue with the GDL 52 was that the battery charging port fell out and I had to send it back to the company to be repaired and replaced after 100 flying hours over 5 months.

Do not buy

  • By A Customer from Amarillo, TX on Thursday, October 20, 2022
  • Pros:
  • Cons: Does not play well with ForeFlight
  • Review: I love most Garmin products, but this is not one of them. It is a pain to get connected, and it does not work very well with ForeFlight. I have not had success picking up other traffic while flying with it. I had high hopes of using it with SiriusXM and being able to listen to music while in the air, but that has not worked out either. I have a Stratus that works great, and I have continued to use it over the Garmin.
