Not a great after dark light for the cockpit
by Richard from Lamar CO USA

Pros: LED with nice bright white
Cons: Blue, Green, and Red lights must be cycled through with the secondary button.
Review: If you need a good flashlight for preflight checks then this one works great.

If you are looking for something to help read charts during the flight then I would keep looking. It does have a separate button for the colored lights when you do not want bright white, but the problem is that is "lights" instead of light. There are three different colors. The red is great for the cockpit, but the green and blue must be moved through when turing on and off, and they are too bright for keeping you night vision in tact.

This is a product not TAYLORED for pilots.
by Not a Pilot from Tampa, FL

Pros: Durability, Function, Tenacity
Cons: It didn't have batteries in it that I could rob, forcing me to Google the specs.
Review: I am not a pilot but I own this product. I have had the flashlight for about 5 years now. It stills works to the same specifications as it did when I purchased it, without being to measure the performance. Some of the anodized aluminum has worn away on points that have contact with a flat surface. This has caused raw aluminum to be exposed. This total surface area exposed is smaller than the accumulated size of a quarter face. I could imagine how such a bright flash light could distort the light coming from your map in such a fashion that it would be difficult to read. This thing is built to survive and provide you with a beacon of light, for whatever purpose that may hold. It's kind of heavy duty for being so unseeming in function, to put it bluntly. Great for survival, bad for a night light.

Great Flashlight
by jBob from New Tripoli PA USA

Pros: Light weight and sturdy, Good price.
Cons: Pressing the colored-light button two more times to turn off.
Review: I use this flashlight during my walk-around inspection on the A330. The light is bright enough to illuminate the tail and vertical stabilizer. The separate button for the red/green/blue lights ensures that I don't inhibit night vision with the bright white light during night operations. (The blue and green lights are unnecessary) The frame is very sturdy. The nylon holster allows quick access to the flashlight.

Good Product
by Randell from Bunker Hill IN USA

Pros: Strong, sturdy
Cons: A little thick and heavy in the cockpit.
Review: Has met my expectations, seems durable, and I use it more out of the plane than in. Very happy with it so far. Could be a tad bit thinner. I like the separate controls for white versus the colors. I would like to see the switch for the colors be able to turn off after each color without having to cycle through all the colors.

Great LIght for Flight
by Frederick from Smithfield UT USA

Pros: Meets my needs very well
Cons: None for my needs
Review: I am Civil Air Patrol flight crew member. We normally fly C-182s day and night. This LED meets those needs very well. It is large enough to find in the dark, has good "night" colors, and is easy to operate. It is also tough enough to take some punishment. It may not be perfect for every need, but, for small general aviation aircraft - this one is right on the mark.

Smith and Wesson Flashlight
by Robert P. Brokaw, Jr. from TUCSON AZ USA

Pros: Just the right white light for the cockpit. Not too bright.
Cons: Could use a ring to attach a cord.
Review: This flashlight is absolute perfection for a pilot. It is not too large and not too small. I love it !

The fact that is uses normal AAA size batteries is a big plus as you can easily obtain them anywhere and have them in the airplane if you need extra batteries. I have a Surefire Aviator 2 which I really love but it gets its extreme brightness from using SF123A 3 volt batteries which will go out instantly when reaching a certain point of low voltage. That's not all bad as the red light will still work for some time afterwards but the AAA's do give a warning. Cost of the Smith and Wesson is much less so you can afford several for backup if you are like me and have to have the Surefire.
