Pilots Guide to California Airports

Pilots Guide to California Airports

This is the book that sets the standard for what an airport guide should be. Five full pages for each Tower Airport cover all the standard data plus what instructions to expect from the tower; a fold-out approach map with drawings of the visual reporting points that the tower uses; a detailed airport surface map showing taxiways, FBOs, transient parking and fuel islands; and a full listing of services offered by each FBO. Each non-tower airport has a half page with similar comprehensive detail. The Guide has over 400 pages and more than 600 photographs, maps and diagrams. Pilots Guide to California Airports is revised twice a year and the price includes the first year's revisions. 5 1/2" x 8 1/2" pages, 7 1/2" x 9" x 1 3/4" blue vinyl binder.

Everyone who works at MyPilotStore.com loves their own copy of Pilots Guide to California and Southwest Airports - we wouldn't fly without them!

Revision Service: Pilots Guide to California Airports is revised twice a year, in February and August. A renewal notice is sent after the year of Revision Service has expired. Renewal for another year is $26.00.

easy, detailed airport reference
by Mona from Livermore CA USA

Review: This book is very helpful, which I guess fits its bulk. I like everything about it with one exception - it seems impossible to tell per each airport when the info was last updated/checked.

Great book, poor customer service
by A Customer from

Pros: Lots of local knowledge for each airport, much better than A/FD
Cons: Still waiting for my revisions, Optima won't pick up the phone.
Review: The publication is terrific but customer service is lacking from the publisher. Been almost two months since purchase and I've yet to have received any updates to the guide. Optima doesn't pick up the phone when you call so I have sent them an email. Hoping to get a response.

Love this resource
by christopher Lewis from Oceanside CA USA

Review: Had a flight guide long ago. too small too hard to read. Have carried a pilot guide for several years and thingk it to be the best resource for important resources for cross country flying. Restraunts, fuel, accomodations. Type of........everything. Anticipated approaches. I could go on and on. GET ONE.

This is an excellent product
by Anthony from Placerville CA USA

Pros: Excellent format and accurate information
Cons: Would like to see it expanded to include other states.
Review: I really like this pilots guide. With all the digital tools available it is nice to a book that has a map with the recommended landmarks and most likely pattern entrance routes.

Pretty good, had for years, but...
by Shirley from Mariposa CA USA

Pros: Easy to find most airports quickly
Cons: None of great consequence
Review: A decent VFR book and I have used it for years. Took a hiatus from flying and when returning sent for update. They instead sent me the entire book and cover (which was not needed - have leather one).  Would recommend for VFR Hamburger Hunters.

Exactly what you need when diverting...
by David from Bellevue WA USA

Pros: Easy to find the airport and the diagrams are invaluable
Review: I purchased this and the Pilots Guide to Northwestern Airports for a trip to Chico. It was invaluable on the way back when we had to land at an unfamiliar airport for a bathroom break. The airport has parallel runways and the tower gave us complex taxi instructions, the diagram was truly necessary. Then when the weather turned sour in Washington we found all the details about the surrounding airports including where to taxi for transient tie-downs.

Lots of airport info
by Joe B. from N. Calif.

Pros: Somewhat big, but fits into flight bag.
Cons: None
Review: This book makes flying into an unfamiliar airport feel like your home field. Very informative with pictures and narratives on reporting points and what directions to expect from the tower. This book also covers non-tower airports. It is a little big, but that is the trade off for a bunch of information. There are about 5 pages of info for a tower controlled field.

One of the indespensible ones
by Bill from Los Angeles CA USA

Pros: Lots of info on airports
Cons: a little big
Review: This book is great. Even though I have other guides, I use this one as well because, even though it's a little bigger, it offers some great information especially for a beginning pilot who needs all the help they can get.
