The AirGizmos Garmin GPSMAP Panel Dock allows you to mount your portable
Garmin GPSMAP flush on your instrument panel for a clean, professional look.
And, it still gives you the opportunity to remove the GPS whenever the need
arises.
It is designed to fit in a standard 6.25" avionics stack
or flush mounted anywhere else in the panel. It can be used in any
Experimental Aircraft or the Panel Dock can be installed in a certified
aircraft, but you will need an FAA field approval.

The Panel Dock is designed to fit the Garmin GPSMap 196, 296, 396 and 496
handheld GPS units. The GPS is held firmly in place, but can be easily removed
by pulling the release tab, located on the left side of the unit.
The Panel Dock is designed to fit in a standard 6.25" avionics stack, but it
can also be flush-mounted anywhere else in the panel. They've worked hard to
make it look like it belongs in a panel.
The antenna and power cables slide through prefabricated "keyholes" in the
back of the unit, which keeps the connectors from slipping back into the panel
when the unit is removed.

Field Approval Not Required

Review: Airgizmo is unnecessarily complicating the installation of their product by stating that a Field Approval (ie, 337) is needed for TC'd aircraft.
The installation is a minor alteration, a simple logbook entry by an A&P mechanic. No field approval, and this is not a Major Alteration. It isn't.

Clean panel installation

Pros: Good look, economical
Cons: No biggies to date. Removing the unit requires some very careful movements to keep from damaging connectors (permanent power and antenna)
Review: Nice portable mounting method. I really don't like things hanging all over my cockpit. Mounted in the radio stack, it looks great.
