Great Battery, my GPSMAP 296 runs like new!

Pros: Actual Garmin-branded battery
Cons: Price was higher than I would expect.
Review: This battery was an actual Garmin-branded battery. Many of the batteries I was finding on-line are "OEM equivalent"; most of the ones I found had mixed reviews with poor quality control during manufacturing. So, one cheap battery would work great for one person, the next person reported that the cheap battery died after a month or two of use.
When I am in the air running on the GPSMAP's internal battery I don't need for it to knock out unexpectedly. I want a reliable GPS that I can trust.

Review: I got the spare battery before I was informed by GARMIN that there is a software glitch in my new 496 that will not allow the battery to fully charge until the battery is flat. So far there has been no recharging problems with either battery.

Unreliable battery

Review: I never even use the GPS on the battery. I do enjoy having the battery in case of a power failure in my airplane. I noticed that with less than 50 hours of flight time on my garmin 496 that when I shut the engine off the battery back up didn't ask me to hit a button to continue navigation. Too bad.. the gps is a great tool, but the battery obviosly needs to be considered
