Pros: Presentation of information, amount of information on all charts(approach, low e, SID/STAR) Cons: Expense, flimsy low enroute charts, limited customization Review: I love Jeppesen charts and I feel more comfortable using them then with the NOS (Government) charts. I do have some issues with them though:
-- Price. You pay for what you get, this is true. But the difference between the Govt charts and Jepps isn't that great anymore. Not for nearly six times the price! And, in my opinion, the Low Enroute Jeppesen charts are on much too flimsy paper. The Govt LE charts are much higher quality paper, but lack the information clarity of the Jepps.
-- Coverage. Jeppesen made the right move whenever it introduced the "Express" pack. But I wish a more a la carte' style of chart selection was available.
As a flight instructor, I fly the same approaches all the time. But, being located very close to the borders of four states means buying THREE different Express packs to get the coverage I want.
Example: I live/instruct in Pittsburgh PA. I am a short flight from Ohio, West Virginia,New York Maryland and Virginia.
To get Ohio charts, I must buy the Indiana/Ohio pack. To get PA charts, I have to buy the New York, PA, and New Jersey pack.
To get Virginia, West Virginia, and Maryland, I have to buy Delaware and DC. As a lowly CFI, spending $120+ every 56 days is costly. I usually buy the PA,NY,NJ charts from Jepp and Govt charts for Ohio. Please Jeppesen, make it so I don't have to!
The only other minor problem is the airport diagram being on the back of the first approach chart for that airport.
Other than that, I love using Jepp charts
