"Slipping The Surly Bonds is the coffee-table, Christmas and birthday
gift aviation fans have been looking for... better buy a few copies of this
book: one to keep... the other to give away... " Aviation International News
From man's earliest expressions on the magic of flying to the chilling last
words of some of aviation's giants, here's an utterly unique collection of 1,000
of the most memorable thoughts on flight down through the ages. Concisely
capturing flying's special allure and excitement as well as its humor and
tragedy, this power-packed anthology of quotations by Leonardo da Vinci,
Lindbergh, Armstrong, Yeager, and hundreds of others amply illustrates why, as
aviation pioneer Otto Lilienthal rhapsodized, "To fly is everything."
"...succinct, power-packed bits of wisdom which are easily digested by the
reader. There's much to be learned as well as enjoyed...." Ron Machado, aviation
writer and personality. Soar with the Immortals of the Air. From the
exhilarating "High Flight," written by a doomed WW II Spitfire pilot in World
War II and the source of this book's title to John Glen's expressions of wonder
in orbit, Slipping the Surly Bonds will carry you into the sky with the greatest
airmen and women of all time. You'll meet dreamers, balloonists, and inventors
of airplanes. A true labor of love, shining with passion, adventure, and
eloquence, this collection of more than 1000 enthralling quotations on flight
will leave you breathless and yearning for wings.

Worth a look by Derek from Shoal Point QLD Australia
Pros: There are some gems amongst them (A good coffe table book) Cons: Some quotes appear to be "fillers" Review: I liked to see some of the older quotations and classic predictions on the future of air travel many years before man actually achieved flight Some of the General Clichs hardly require a mention but for the novice pilot they are essential. Unfortunately there were a number of quotes that were not strictly aviation based and were non-aviation reconstructed to suit. But it would be a difficult task to compile such a list of quotations while choosing only quotes that will please everybody. Overall I consider it money well spent

a perfect gift by aaron from Bremerton WA USA
Pros: something every piolt/aro-nut can enjoy Cons: size does matter Review: There is a lot of great verse and is very fun, but very deceiving in the size department, and therefore shocking upon first glimpse, all in all good gift, but could be better.
