Fly Jake DVD - The Adventures of Learning to Fly

Fly Jake DVD - The Adventures of Learning to Fly

It's fantastic - like going out flying! This DVD is not your typical How to Fly video. Instead, Fly Jake is about the Adventure of learning to fly. You'll ride along with teenage pilot Jake Smith, from that very first time in the pilot's seat at age 13, all the way to his Private Pilot's license on his 17th birthday, and beyond.

Jake narrates Adventures of a Teenage Pilot himself, keeping you in the air as much as possible.

Fly Jake is a movie-length video, two-and-a-half-hours, professionally photographed and edited, that puts you the teenager (or student pilots of any age for that matter) in the pilot's seat.

And just like DVDs of major feature films, Fly Jake has "chapter select" so you can skip back and forth to anywhere in the DVD. Like a favorite movie, you'll watch it again and again.

Jake's dad Bill was a teenage pilot himself and is a TV news reporter in Los Angeles. Jake's mom Karen is a retired flight attendant for TWA and American Airlines. Together they brought their enthusiasm for flying to help Jake produce this video.

Fly Jake had its simple beginnings as home video footage from the back seat of the Cessna 172, so Jake could go home and experience each flying lesson again. Then Jake realized that other young pilots (or not so young pilots) could learn from the video too. So "Fly Jake took off.

Jake's adventure was based at the busiest general aviation airport in the world, the Van Nuys Airport in Los Angeles. For a teenager flying Cessna 172's, sharing the pattern with Gulfstreams and Lear Jets is a great way to gain confidence as a pilot.

The thirty-one chapters break the video into separate adventures. A few examples:

  • View from the Left Seat gets you immediately into the air with Jake and his instructors, previewing the Adventure that lies ahead.
  • Scanner Chatter helps you easily learn the language of flying, so you'll sound as cool as a professional pilot yourself. No more being afraid of the radio.
  • You mean I can land this thing? gets you flying for real with steep turns, stalls, landings, the works.
  • The Inner Pilot whispers for you to answer the call from air shows and small out-of-the-way airports. That's where the cost of a regular flying lesson can instead send you flying aircraft you might not otherwise fly: bi-planes, gliders, sea planes, even a blimp! With Jake you'll discover how this exciting range of experience helps make you a better pilot.
  • That First Flight to Somewhere introduces you to small airports with short runways and no control towers. You'll learn how these pilot-controlled airports make you a very independent flyer.
  • Flying Vacations lets you take your flying lessons along when your parents take you on a vacation, like to Hawaii!!
  • Class B or Not Class B shows you that even a teenage student pilot can deal with radar vectors and heavy jets at the big airports.
  • Fly with Friends shows you the advantage of finding friends who also fly, so you can learn from their experiences, and they can learn from you.
  • Zero Visibility takes you along as Jake learns the basics of instrument flying. That's when you can't see anything outside the airplane, except the inside of a cloud.
  • That First Solo is the great moment all young pilots wait for! Jake's instructor gets out of the airplane and turns Jake loose to fly on his own for the very first time.
  • Been there, done that takes you on those cross country flights to unfamiliar airports that every student pilot must make.
  • The Written, the Flight Check follows Jake through the written exam and the flight check-ride when the FAA examiner types Jake Smith on his brand new pilot's license.
  • And then there's The Parent Flight, that flight every young pilot must make, the first time he takes his parents flying and they realize that their kid really is a pilot.
  • The Wright Stuff finds Jake at Kitty Hawk on a mission to history that every pilot should someday make.

And these are just a few of the thirty one chapters in Fly Jake.

All the flying is real. To keep things interesting, sometimes one flight is edited together from several flights. But Jake's adventure is the real thing. All the flying really is Jake. And it's a great ride. So buckle up.

The big finish is titled, The Ultimate Challenge: Teenage Pilots land at Los Angeles International! Think teenagers can't fly into big, busy international airports with American, Qantas, Southwest and Air France? Oh yes you can!

Who knows? Maybe someday you'll be captain of a Boeing 787 or Airbus A-380, cleared-to-land following a Cessna 172 with a pair of teenage pilots at the controls. Hey, it could happen!

Remember, as Jake says on the DVD, "There are a lot of good 'How to Fly' videos out there, and this is definitely not one of them. Instead, this is all about the adventure of learning to fly. But don't be surprised when you pick up a lot of really great information along the way."

And while Fly Jake is about a teenager's adventure, it's actually great for anyone, any age, learning to fly.

There's never been another flying video like this one. You're gonna love it!
