Served its Purpose - And That's it.

Pros: Relatively easy way to get CFI renewed.
Cons: Time consuming essay type pre-test, then 160 question real test.
Review: To be fair, this product got me a fresh CFI certificate with a net total of probably 9 hours of time invested - quicker than most other methods. However, it is only partially a video course, at least 1/2 of the needed material is found in the included textbook. The course requires you to take a pre-test, which has around 50 essay type questions, such as "What are some ways to avoid a mid-air collision?" Then, you mail in a bunch of forms, including one that must be notarized, and Jeppesen e-mails you the real test. It was around 160 multiple choice questions that you print out and fax in. Then, they mail you a new temporary CFI certificate. My biggest dissapointment was the video. They reused a CFIT video from my commuter airline days (Not even produced by Jeppesen) and a bunch of videos that would say things like "when you become a CFI..." that were obviously reused from their initial CFI course. Sorry, but I've been a CFI for over 10 years and ordered a recertification course, not a new CFI course. At least change some of the audio to say "As a CFI..." or something like that so it isn't quite as obvious.

It was awesome.

Pros: combination of video and text didn't get dull.
Cons: I don't think I have any complaints.
Review: It was an up to date flight instructor review for me. Since I'm not affiliated with a school I don't always get the current issues the industry is dealing with. Although it was a bit of work, I felt this course was informative and just what I needed. I will use it again even though there are less time consuming ways to renew my instructors license.

Process to renew my CFI was excellent

Cons: lack of communciation when final exam was submitted to get the results
Review: It was everything I needed to get current. Process to renew was very clear and concise. When I ordered product there was lack of communciation when I would be receiving it. I filed late so receiving it quickly was very inportant.

Cons: No opportunity for interation with instructors and other CFI's
Review: The Jeppesen DVD CFI Renewal Program does a comprehensive and thorough review without the "paper/printing hassle" of their (AOPA ASF/ Jeppesen) online version. The textbook eliminates most of the printing and the DVD eliminates down load time for video components.
The 160 question final definitely touched on all aspects of the course.
Saved on gas, ferry fare, meals and a motel too.
If a CFI has difficulty making a locally scheduled CFI renewal program this program provides a great alternative

I would buy again

Cons: There were a few questions which I could not find in book or video. Especially in the Resource management section. But common sense prevailed.

A good value for the buck and a great tool for the CFI

Review: Thought the set up of the whole package was very effecient. Well written, and accurate, information in a nicely bound hard cover "keeper" manual.
Well produced video material with additional great info watchable time and again. Entire kit will serve as a great addition to any CFI's aero library.

Informative, Fast and Easy

Cons: Most of the video was pretty good, but some of the stories were a little cheezy. i.e. the Instructor Quiz Show
Review: I've been using The Jeppensen Flight Instructor Renewal Program for over 8 years and I've found it to be clear, concise and informative. Being able to study the materials when I had time available was very helpful. I was finished before I knew it and had my renewed flight instructor certificate very quickly.

Cons: Same course as two years ago
Review: I purchased the Jeppesen CFI renewal DVD's because I liked the program so much two years ago when I did my last CFI renewal. Unfortunately, the "new" materials have not been revised in the past two years and the book (now hardcover), DVD's and quiz's are the same with the exception of a one-page insert in the book. Although Jeppesen seemed confused about when a new version would be released they were very helpful,and later informed me that the program won't be revised this year. They offered me a refund. I chose to keep the course, but will certainly ask next time about when the program was last revised.

A Good Refresher Course That Takes Lots of Time

Review: This course covers a lot of subject matter, if you want to receive the full benefit from the data both printed and video it will take a lot more time than the 16 hours advertised for reading and review to reach the conclusion of the course.

Review: The 2006/2007 edition of JS's CFI Renewal is simply outstanding. For busy working professionals who have the dicipline to do the self study and who prefer their study material book-bound and enjoy their lecture material in a well developed dvd format, this renewal course cannot be beat. This year's text is hardcover.(nice) The updated material is extremely timely. JS's staff and chief examiner are always available for questions. Although AOPA's and AOPA/JS's online renewal course is pretty, and I imagine probably quicker to complete, I enjoy and appreciate the professional quality of Jeppesen Sanderson's Certified Instructor Renewal Course.

Should just go to a 2 day course!

Cons: you have to write everything out.
Review: Thought this book was a prep for the online test. Only to find out you have to write out every answer. Then send it in, to get a final test back. Then send it in. I would of taken the two day course, if I wanted that. I'm back to doing it online. This is not a fast or convient way to renew your CFI.
