Doesn't work in Transport Aircraft

  • By Michael from Charlottesville VA USA on Thursday, February 18, 2021
  • Pros: Works on the ground....
  • Review: Haven't tested ir in GA aircraft yet but tried it a few times flying the Dash 8 and could never get it to work in flight, worked on the ground thus seems it just not designed to work in ATP aircraft.

Works as advertised

  • By Jeff Portner from Blue Bell PA USA on Tuesday, December 01, 2020
  • Pros: Size, price
  • Review: Upgraded my iPad Air 2 so it can be used with iFly software. Chief concern is that device may fall out of lightening socket ( hasn't happened yet), only reason review is not 5 stars.

Works most of the time but...

  • By JimPa28-140 from Space coast of Florida on Saturday, September 21, 2019
  • Pros:
  • Review: I’ve had the Bad Elf for a couple of years and it’s a great little asset most of the time. I use it with my iPad 5. It’s really small. Sometimes it takes it a while to lock on enough sats to give a decent fix. I’ve had times when the Bad Elf isn’t recognized and I have to repeatedly unplug/plug it to get it to be recognized. I’ve had 2 instances where it has not worked, which I believe were due to overheating.
I’d say it has worked 95% of the time. Sin+e I don’t use it as the only means on navigation, I’m overall satisfied, especially for the price!

Works with iPhone S&8

  • By A Customer from Hayward CA USA on Monday, January 28, 2019
  • Pros: Works
  • Review: I got these two for my husband pilot and son (also a pilot) for Christmas and so far my husband loves his! Even though the description doesn’t mention iPhone “S” or 8 nor iPads, this works well for all. Wish there was a “”Bad Elf” tracking app but otherwise a very useful tool.

Works well, simple to install and use

  • By Gordon from Zurich, Switzerland on Thursday, November 01, 2018
  • Pros: Good value, small, easy to install
  • Review: I needed a GPS receiver for a WiFi only iPad Pro mounted on the instrument panel.
Some people note the fragility of the Bad Elf connector, however in my installation this is not an issue since the Bad Elf is permanently installed under the glare shield with a USB charging cable input and a Lightning extension cable output to the iPad.
Altitudes are not quite as accurate as the Bad Elf software claims, but are fine for flying unless you plan doing GPS approaches in IFR :-)
