Serengeti Carrarra Pilot Sunglasses (8453)
Carrara is Serengeti's updated and improved Medium Aviator. They took their classic Medium Aviator eye and improved the frame design adding a more contemporary temple with a hidden double flex spring hinge for a wider fit range.

Serengeti's are just as much as home on the road as they are in the air. No matter what you're piloting, Serengeti's advanced photochromic lenses minimize fatigue and eye strain from the sun.

Frame Color: Satin Dark Gunmetal

Lens:
Non-Polarized Drivers Gradient: The Drivers Gradient lens is darker at the top and lighter at the bottom, a feature designed to block glare from above to provide a clear view of the dashboard below. Drivers Gradient is the preferred choice of pilots as they can see detail at great distance while easily scanning the instruments in front of them.

Dimensions:
Horizontal Measurement 59mm
Vertical Measurement 52mm
Effective Diameter 67mm
Distance Between Lenses 13mm
Temple Arms Measurement 135mm

Technology beyond the naked eye
Serengeti lenses achieve such a high level of acuity because we only use the finest materials available. And the process by which Serengeti develops their lenses gives them exceptional color and contrast enhancement.

Serengeti's High Definition Lens
Serengeti's proprietary Spectral Control (TM) lens system provides contrast and color enhancement by selectively filtering certain colors from the visible light spectrum. This allows the most optimal colors through, creating an effect where colors are crisper and images are clearer, making it the ultimate high definition view.

Bright or Shade

Serengeti's exclusive photochromic lenses automatically darken in bright sunlight to give superior definition, while they lighten in overcast or shade conditions for extra contrast. And since the technology is infused directly into the lens, it will never wear off or out.
Block the Blues
Blue light waves cause a phenomenon called "blue blur", which occurs when they scatter off dust and moisture particles in the air and, essentially veil glare. Serengeti lenses block 95% of blue light, virtually eliminating the eye strain and fatigue blue blur can cause.
UV Protection Goes Beyond Standards
The government and commercial bodies have set standards for UV protection in sunglasses. Then there are Serengeti's standards. They're like yours standards. They go beyond the basic level of expectation, eliminating virtually 100% of UVA and UVB rays. The Serengeti lenses also feature an anti-reflective coating on the back side to block additional glare and reflections.
Eliminate the Harsh Glare
Glare is inevitable by-product of light rays bouncing off reflective surfaces. But Serengeti's polarizing film removes glare as an uncomfortable factor in driving, and the eye fatigue it can cause.

Great Shades

  • By A Customer from Zanesville OH USA on Monday, May 22, 2023
  • Pros: Super durable, excellent color, and comfy as all get-out.
  • Review: These sunglasses have amazing quality to their construction, lenses, and clarity. I would definitely purchase Serengetis again, but in the black lenses. This is only due to the fact that I would want even stronger light blocking when having to look in the sun's direction when it is low to the horizon.

Quality control problem

  • By A Customer from Eastchester NY USA on Saturday, May 20, 2023
  • Pros: The warranty promises a direct replacement.
  • Review: I purchased a pair of Serengeti Carrara 8453 sunglasses from MyPilotStore.com on November 26, 2022. Four months later they “exploded” on my face.

It appears as though the screw holding the left lens in place came apart, causing the left lens frame to spring open while simultaneously launching the lens into the air and landing on the sidewalk, resulting with a large chip in the lens.

I don’t believe that my sunglasses’ coming apart was due to “Normal Wear and Tear”. The sunglasses were barely 4 months old.

Good sun glass but

  • By Bruce from Seguin Ontario, Canada on Friday, April 07, 2023

  • Review: Great clarity but the ear protectors keep coming off and now I have lost one. A real bummer considering the price.

Only Sunglasses I Wear

  • By Rox201 from Fort Lee, New Jersey on Friday, December 02, 2022
  • Pros:
  • Review: My 20 yr old aviators finally broke! I’m not a pilot but I drive great distances for work and am never without these glasses. The new frames seem to be a bit sturdier than my old ones. Protects against sun, glare and wind in all seasons. Great price and quick shipping.

carrera not as good as drivers for a non-pilot

  • By A Customer from Phoenix AZ USA on Thursday, May 19, 2022
  • Pros: quality, fit
  • Review: I had my serengeti drivers for years and loved them; unfortunately they were stolen. The carrerras fit is perfect and they do the job but driving west in full summer sunlight isn't as good as the drivers. I would recommend them, however.

  • Pros: The warranty promises a direct replacement.
  • Cons: A "direct replacement" was useless in my case. The replacement sunglasses were out of stock, so now I have a pair of expensive sunglasses that I never would've bought in the first place.
