OK but not the best

  • By A Customer from USA on Tuesday, April 28, 2015
  • Pros: Durable
  • Cons: the headband
  • Review: The headband doesn't easily fit over your headset and under the headset causes noise to come in.

Jury is still out.....

  • By A Customer from Gaithersburg, MD on Tuesday, July 03, 2007
  • Pros: Very comfortable
  • Cons: Does not limit your view as much as Foggles or a hood
  • Review: I did my entire instrument rating and most of my subsequent recurrent training with Foggles. My only complaint about Foggles is that they hurt my ears after being worn with any of my headsets for any longer than 30-45 minutes. When they broke I decided I needed a more comforable option, which led me to a basic hood or the Jepp product. The hood seemed like a pain to store, so I went with the Jepp product. It is far more comfortable than Foggles. It does not however limit your view as much as Foggles or a hood, so I'm not sure I'm getting the most out of my training. The flip up feature sounds cool, but requires two hands to operate....does anyone else think taking both hands off the airplane on short final on an ILS is a bad idea? So, the jury is still out on this product.

I found less useful than foggles or hood

  • By Howard from Santa Cruz, Ca on Thursday, September 06, 2007
  • Pros: Fits comfortably over headset
  • Cons: Not designed for use with glasses, allows peripheral cues
  • Review: First - Not until I opened the package did I learn from insert that the product is not designed to be used with glasses. So if you wear glasses while flying this is not for you.
Second - I have used a cheap plastic ifr hood and foggles. I prefer the hood for limiting peripheral cues but it is hard to remove when wearing a headset. The foggles bow does not fit well under or over a headset. Otherwise foggles seem to work pretty well.

Stick with foggles

  • By Mike from El Dorado Hills CA USA on Tuesday, March 08, 2011
  • Pros: Nice looking, well made.
  • Cons: Not a great fit, Blocks peripheral vision when flipped up.
  • Review: I picked these up thinking they would be an upgrade to my current set of cheap foggles. I liked the idea of being able to flip them up or down easily; however, they do block a good portion of your peripheral vision when you have them flipped up. I find it easier to just stick a pair of foggles on your head (and cheaper) and slip them up or down over your eyes. I also have a problem with the fit, the elastic band is a bit big and they won't fit around my small head. I have to wrap them around my headset, rather than under it.

Compact, but fragile

  • By Terry from Tyler TX USA on Tuesday, September 04, 2012
  • Pros: Fit and function over glasses and with headset
  • Cons: Fragile, poor hinge construction, expensive
  • Review: It's a great design idea. Very comfortable to wear over glasses and with your headset. Love the way you can flip up the visor for the visual landing. However, the hinge is very fragile. The first set I received the hinge was too tight and then suddenly became too loose to be functional. MyPilotStore was very good to send me a replacement.  So far so good with the replacement. I'm very careful not to put any stress on it while using it or while in storage. Again, the problem is the fragile hinge..."Made In China"

Not good if you wear glasses

  • By James from Staten Island NY USA on Wednesday, July 02, 2014
  • Pros: Good to be able to flip up or down
  • Cons: Allowed noise to enter when used with eyeglasses.
  • Review: If I didn't wear glasses it would have been good. The eyeglass frame and strap for the JeppShades combined to be both uncomfortable and allowed a lot of noise to enter.

Flip up Foggles

  • By David from Houma LA USA on Friday, February 06, 2015
  • Pros: light, doesn't require straps which shove your glasses in your face
  • Cons: lens quality is poor
  • Review: Light enough to function as a clip on, but the lens quality is poor resulting in distortion.
