- Review: 1963 Piper Colt. Purch Sky Beacon in Sept 2020. Mechanic installed in early Oct. Continually failed FAA PAPR test. uAvionix tech support walked us through the configuration but still failed. BTW, uAvionics helper, Drew, is fantastic. Nevertheless, it would not pass the PAPR. Now it is December and uAvionics replaced the Sky Beacon and the new one works, passed the PAPR first time. So, they stand behind their product but it has been a hassle plus added expense of A&P time. Bottom line is when it works the Sky Beacon is great but all said and done if I had taken the airplane to my avionics shop, had a Stratus ESG installed I would not have spent any more $ and I would not have lost use of the airplane during all the attempts to make the first one work.
