Wanted to love them but

  • Pros: Quality optics, very thin and light fitting. You hardly know they’re on.
  • Cons: Too dark compared to a drivers lens
  • Review: I’ve been buying Serengeti glasses for years and I really love their products. Driving or flying, their drivers lens sunglasses just work well for me. But I lost my Serengeti’s and the model I had was discontinued. I ordered a pair of Serengeti’s as close as I could to the style of my old ones and these Vedalo’s to try out.

First off, this isn’t “apples to apples” because the Vedalo with the drivers lens has been discontinued (according to an email from mypilotstore). So I ordered the Vedalo with the smoke lenses.

Serengeti’s drivers lens has given me the best glare reduction over the years with no polarization to mess with screens.I could wear them early am to sunset and not be too dark, even in hard IFR.

The Vedalo glasses were impressive. They are extremely light and fit well. They are thin but resilient and fit well under Lightspeed Zulu 3 earcups. But the ear pieces of the Vedalo glasses are so thin, they bend when trying to put them on with headsets on.

The lenses are very good, but they just weren’t the drivers lens I’ve gotten used to. I loved the lightweight feel and thin fit of the glasses (I hate giant aviator frames) but I just found them a bit too dark to be ideal for me . The Serengeti’s I ordered are close enough to my old ones that I’ll be keeping them and returning the Vedalos.
