Great product but has issues with synthetic vision

  • By A Customer from Bossier City LA USA on Monday, June 27, 2016
  • Pros: GREAT customer service
  • Cons: Synthetic vision had issues
  • Review: I bought this product for the synthetic vision however it would not work all the time. It would show me inverted when I was in straight & level flight. I contacted Dual Support and they were INCREDIBLE!! I will always do business with a company who stands behind their product. GREAT customer service!! I believe a fix has been issued for the product.

GPS & ADS-B wonderful as expected, AHRS mostly good

  • By Rich from Atascadero CA USA on Wednesday, June 29, 2016
  • Pros: GPS & ADS-B work well, no more Bluetooth switch for Apple / Other
  • Cons: AHRS needs to be caged after initial climb, limited battery
  • Review: I've owned both the XGPS 150 & 170 before upgrading to the 190. This unit lives up to the performance expectations set by its predecessors. It's good to see the Apple/other switch for the Bluetooth has been eliminated - one less thing to go wrong on setup. This unit gets just as hot when operating as its predecessors - which is a concern for system reliability and battery life. Again like earlier models, battery capacity is long enough for single leg flights, but it doesn't last as long as the iPad and will probably need a charge if you refuel. I would not trust the AHRS on departure; after the takeoff roll and initial climb, it is regularly off by several degrees in both pitch and roll (yes, it was caged just before taxiing onto the runway). However, after caging in cruse, it seems to work well including throughout flying approach procedures.

  • Pros: No heat problems
  • Cons: Shorter Range
  • Review: I also have a Clarity-SV which has better reception, especially at lower altitudes, but does have the overheating problem of the SV.
I've really not flown enough with to for my opinion to be of much value.

useful backup in your cockpit

  • By Peter from Raleigh NC USA on Thursday, June 02, 2016
  • Review: Great for looking up weather on route and be able to get a general picture of current weather trends. On the Wing X pro platform using an Ipad mini synthetic vision could use improvement in terms of pixel resolution and quicker response to change in aircraft attitude. A heading bug would be nice on the DG. The unit works well, could use a longer battery life. Good backup for your cockpit instruments. Probably a good back up in event of a vacuum pump failure only to get you quickly to VFR conditions. What's better? A G1000 if you can afford it and in flight radar.

It gets the job done

  • By Rob from Salt Lake City UT USA on Tuesday, January 02, 2018
  • Pros: Timely weather graphics and information
  • Cons: External Antenna, not as smooth as Stratus II
  • Review: I have been using this product for about 2 months in a Challenger 300 jet. It didn't work right away, and I assumed it was due to our heated windscreens, but eventually started to work. Using it with FltPlan GO app. It gives me good weather depiction on map and also gives METAR/TAF information in a timely manner. Not as seamless as the Appareo Stratus II is with Foerflight, but I prefer to use FltPlan Go, so this will do.
