a bit disappointed

  • By Ruth from Hays KS USA on Tuesday, August 24, 2010
  • Pros: kept me from getting sick
  • Cons: have to buy a new watch and got a very bad rash on the wrists
  • Review: [This review was written for a previous generation ReliefBand model.]  I got a very bad rash on the wrist from wearing this one. I wanted the one that the battery could be replaced, but you did not have it in stock (editor note:  It is no longer manufactured) and needed one for a trip so got the one that the battery could not be replaced.  I got a bad rash on both wrists where I wore the watch.  At some points i even felt an electrical charge was going through my skin that really stung! when i wore my sister's watch where the battery could be replaced i did not have that problem. quite disappointed because i will have to buy another watch now. However i must say i did not get sick on my trip and will have to attribute it to the watch, rash or no rash. i usually took dramamine before and did not this time and fared well without nausea or vomiting.

  • Review: [This review was written for a previous generation ReliefBand model.]  Expectations: Wife used a borrowed one that had replaceable batteries and it worked really well. Was disapointed that unit will only last as long as the battery

Worked well for me but disappointed that batteries can't be replaced

  • By Alex from San Jose CA USA on Tuesday, September 02, 2014
  • Pros: For me, it worked well, better than anything else I have tried in the past
  • Cons: The fact that batteries can't be replaced makes me feel like I'm getting ripped off
  • Review: [This review was written for a previous generation ReliefBand model.]  I really enjoy ocean fishing but I've always had a tendency to get seasick. I have tried all the over the counter pills, I tried the prescription patch and then finally the ReliefBand. For me, the ReliefBand worked better than anything else I've tried and on the last three fishing trips - including two full days in Cabo - I have not had any problems with seasickness. As soon as I felt a little 'funny', I turned up the stimulation and the feeling went away. However, the cost of the ReliefBand is very high, especially when you consider the fact that their new design doesn't allow battery replacement. So you spend all that money and when the battery dies, you throw it out. That is really, really lame. Theoretically, I can argue that the prescription patches I was getting from my doctor were about $8 per patch and the ReliefBand might last me 10-15 days of fishing so maybe the cost isn't that much higher than buying patches. However, the patch is obviously not rechargeable and a new battery for a ReliefBand is probably less than $10 but you can't replace it due to their new design. Apparently the older design allowed battery replacement but now they've figured out how to force you to spend $120+ on a new ReliefBand instead of just changing the battery. While I get it that it's probably more profitable for their company, it's kind of a douchey,chicken-poop thing to do. I would certainly advise anyone who gets seasick to try all other methods available before opting for a ReliefBand. For me, nothing else worked nearly as well but I know lots of people who are just fine with the over the counter pills.

Wish it were like the old version

  • By teri from walnut creek CA USA on Monday, February 15, 2010
  • Pros: Better than NOT having one, and it does work
  • Cons: Gel doesn't stay effective long enough before reapplication
  • Review: [This review was written for a previous generation ReliefBand model.]  I previously had a Relief Band from about 6 years ago, used it all the time and LOVED it. That one worked Perfectly. The new one works okay, but I have to reapply the gel - twice after only a half an hour, once after an hour. Don't know why that is - the old version, the gel lasted for hours and hours before reapplication. So I don't know if its a difference with the way the band contacts my wrist or a "new" version of the gel that is a problem, but that is a big issue because you need to stay vigilant to realize that the gel has stopped working, and unfortunately, the way that might be called to your attention is because you start getting nauseous. I also need to turn this band up to a higher number to get the same result as my old one, which is a slight concern because on one very bad sea trip, I had my old one all the way up to the max of 5 and it worked great, but if this one isn't as "strong" at 5, that could be a problem. Where I frequently had my old one at 1 or sometimes 2 for general motion sickness (nothing extreme), this one I have had at 3 in similar circumstances.

Great to have replaceable battery BUT poor design battery cover

  • By philip from Roswell GA USA on Friday, June 19, 2015
  • Pros: Replaceable battery
  • Cons: Battery cover will not stay closed
  • Review: Good product - works well BUT a poor design for the rubber battery cover - it keeps coming open - had to use tape to hold the battery in place. Not satisfied. Will be contacting the store for a replacement.

Not working for me

  • By Sandra from Melbourne FL USA on Saturday, June 20, 2009
  • Pros: Works as advertised and is simple
  • Cons: Didn't work for me on the open seas. Is a little clunky
  • Review: [This review was written for a previous generation ReliefBand model.]  This is my second one as my first corroded so I will take better care of this one. However it did not prevent my sea sickness on this last cruise! Not sure why, but I know I am a tough case. Never had problems before using the watch which I use on all air flights.

Not a cure all

  • By David from Sacramento CA USA on Monday, August 24, 2009
  • Pros: Works for as long as you need it.
  • Cons: Is not 100% effective
  • Review: [This review was written for a previous generation ReliefBand model.]  From reading the other reviews, I was expecting more. My wife and I took the relief bands on a 7 day Alaskan cruise. We both suffer from motion sickness. On the open ocean I felt dizzy but I still could eat. I beleive my wife's experience was a little better. I am not sure if Dramamine would have been just as effective. On the plus side, we wore them 24/7 and didn't have to keep taking pills. For the money I just hoped that it would have been more effective.
