The disk did not self install; and clicking "Install Trainer" on the setup page gave no response. I used the ".exe" application in the Install directory to get somewhere.
There is no question that this trainer is a low cost way of learning the "buttonology" of this powerful system. It is NOT a flight simulator, but that is really a good thing. The throttle sets speed, not power; roll sets roll and does not drop altitude; pitch sets pitch and you don't lose airspeed; those sorts of things. Your concentration on the system operation is not distracted by airplane dynamics.
You can "fly" many different approaches for no additional cost and watch the needles move in response to either joystick motions or AP settings. The VNAV feature follows the step downs and Along Track Offsets work well. The "highway in the sky" shows where the Flight Plan and Altitude settings are set including the ILS path and the Synthetic Vision shows the runway as well as airports nearby in the front view.
I have two major complaints 1) there are no LPV approaches, maybe because there are not enough active satellites and RAIM is not available (?) and 2) I recall being successful in "flying" some coupled ILS approaches but then I was unable to get them to function again including multiple attempts using the full approach as well as Vectors To Final and different approaches and airports. I also tried several restarts of the program without success in this flight portion.
Make sure to utilize the "Start Dual Screen Trainer" option; I can't imagine it being so helpful any other way.
