Works As Well As Hoped

  • By Keith from Williamsport PA USA on Thursday, April 21, 2022
  • Pros: Gets a reliable signal and works with Fly Q
  • Review: I use the flight app Fly-Q efb instead of Foreflight, and so I was looking for a more reliable GPS with weather and ADSB than I currently had. So far in the few flights that I have used this Stratus, it has met my expectations on getting a signal which was my biggest concern.

Invaluable safety device

  • By A Customer on Monday, February 21, 2022
  • Pros: Battery life, data and information provided
  • Review: Pros: Relatively long battery life, a 1.5 hour flight uses about 15% battery, so guess you can probably get at least 6-8 hours of constant usage. Good GPS reception, never had problems with placement. Works extremely well with Foreflight. Easy Wifi connectivity, so multiple users can connect to it.

Cons: Unit can get warm under direct sun, so you'll need a separately purchased window mount if you want it out of the glareshield.

Works with iFlyGPS Android!

  • By A Customer from Parker, CO on Friday, July 16, 2021
  • Pros:
  • Review: Does all that it says and one more thing: even though the product info says the AHRS artificial horizon only works with ForeFlight, I got it to work with iFlyGPS Android also. The trick is you first have to put the receiver into Open ADS-B mode, which requires the Stratus Horizon Pro app on an iPad (free to install). I borrowed a friend's iPad to flip the switch, then connected to my Samsung S6 Lite with iFlyGPS and voila, artificial horizon is enabled as well as traffic and weather.

Replace and a few upgrades

  • By A Customer from East Tawas MI on Wednesday, January 20, 2021
  • Pros: New: Auto off feature
  • Review: Replaced my stratus 2 as it wouldn’t take a charge after ~5 years use.
Become used to its features and use it with ForeFlight and new wing ads -B out product.
Not ecstatic about its unique mini usb plug but the auto off feature will save me future headaches.
Thought it would come down in price over the years but ...

Works with iFlyGPS Android!

8 QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

Q: I purchased a portable ADS-B for my Stratus 3. Where is the best place to put it?

A: ADS-B reception can vary greatly depending on the orientation of your Stratus portable receiver and its location in your aircraft. ADS-B is ground based, meaning the best mounting options provide an unobstructed view of the ground in your aircraft.

Use the included gel pad dash mount if you are flying an aircraft with unheated windshields and you generally fly in areas where there is full ADS-B coverage

Use the Stratus Suction Cup Mount if you are not seeing continuous ADS-B coverage when flying in ADS-B fringe areas and or if you want to mount your Stratus portable receiver off the glareshield. To test if the suction cup mount would improve your receiver’s ADS-B reception, open the Stratus Information page in the Stratus Horizon Pro settings, or go to the Stratus Status page in ForeFlight Mobile while in flight and monitor the number of towers shown in the "Receiving Towers" field.  Then rotate your receiver on its side and hold it to a window and see if the number of towers reported increases. Many pilots see dramatic improvement in ADS-B reception after moving their receiver to a side window of their aircraft.

Use an external ADS-B antenna if you fly in areas with poor ADS-B coverage or if you want the flexibility to place your receiver virtually anywhere in your aircraft (only works if you own the airplane).

Q: Difference in the 2s and the 3 absb stratus recevers

A: The key differences are that the Stratus 3 is compatible with more apps than the 2S. It also has a Smart Wi-Fi feature that allows your device to stay connected to cellular data even while connected to the Stratus 3''s Wi-Fi.

  • Sunday, February 26, 2023

Q: Hello do you have 220V wall charger or charger

A: They do not make a 220v wall charger, but the the Stratus wall charger is just a standard 5 volt, 2 amp USB charger.  Any similar USB charger that you use for other devices would work fine to charge the Stratus.
