Pros: Unlike any other flying book. Shows you the math and then explains what you should do about it. The one book every GA pilot should own.
Cons: You will wish you had paid more attention in math class.
Review:
I have been flying for twenty-five years and instructing for most of that time. I love books and own probably at least a hundred on flying and aviation. In terms of knowledge and information about how airplanes fly and how we should fly them, this is the single best volume I have ever seen. Most books on flying recapitulate information that can be found in dozens of other sources. Even if you are an experienced, inquisitive pilot, on every page of this book you will find something that you did not know, did not understand, or had never even thought about. And it will not be opinion; it will be fact insofar as current science can determine. Eckalbar will show you the mathematics to substantiate the information and then he will explain the operational significance of the facts. If you are one of those pilots who points the airplane up to go up and down to go down dont bother with this book. You wont be interested and you wont understand it although you desperately need it. If, on the other hand, you are genuinely curious and want to understand why airplanes, airplane systems, and airplane engines work as they do and what you should do about it you should read and own this book because you will refer to it again and again.

A Wealth of Knowledge You Won't Find Anywhere Else.

Pros: Lots of advanced stuff you need to know for flying high performance airplanes!
Cons: Section on turbines seems a bit brief and short... If only because you have been treated to chapter after chapter of superb and detailed info before it!
Review:
What happens when you step up to the high performance airplanes or you simply want to expand your knowledge far beyond just the basics? You read this book!
In Flying High Performance Singles and Twins, Eckalbar delivers excellent discussions on topics like turbocharging, pressurization, and multi-engine operations. He gives us some of the best discussions on engines, mixture management and props you'll find anywhere. Presentation of V-G diagram and Load factors is the best I've seen. Eckalbar consistently blends the theoretical with the practical, giving the reader many helpful hints and real world rules of thumb.
Don't be scared off by those who say that this book is too mathematical. The author warns us when the math is coming, and he has written the book in such a way that you can safely skip most of the math without a loss of understanding.
This book is more than a worthy addition to the library of any pilot who is moving into the high performance world--or the pilot looking to significantly expand their knowledge of the engine and airplane.

Review:
John Eckalbar delivers thorough and concise information regarding high performance aircraft. This is definitely a book for the serious pilot who wants to perfect the art of flying but any pilot reading this material will benefit.
