Silence is golden
by Henning from Helgoland, Germany

Pros: Best and perfect noise reduction, available with XLR-5 connector (was important for me).
Cons: Nothing, compared to other High-End active headsets.
Review: Very best active noise reduction ever, much better than Sennheiser S1. But for that you have to fit it properly on your ears, a little testing for the best wearing position was necessairy.
I use my A20 in a Britten-Norman BN-2, a hard piece of work for any active headset. With A20 it sounds like an electric shaver used next door.
Ordered the A20 with Bluetooth and XLR-5 connector, so I need no batteries, cellphone connection and calling works perfectly.
Yes, it is expensive, but compared with other High-End Headsets its doing the best job. And they all cost about $ 1.000

Best investment in aviation there is.
by A Customer from Oswego IL USA

Review: Hands down the best investment I have made in a while. The a20 is lighter and more comfortable than it's counter part. The Bluetooth feature and audio input is rather convenient, especially when the clouds are low and you're on hold with flight service. The Bose 10 was good on the ANR, but the a20 is a couple decibels better.

Worth the price
by Daryl from Apex NC USA

Pros: features and quality. Radio calls are always clear, and they are COMFORTABLE!
Cons: Just that price, but worth it.
Review: When I got the advice to buy Bose A20's, I thought first about the expense... yes, they are expensive. But I also had the question posed to me about what it was worth in the long run, and to think about the enjoyment it brings to flying. This was a great choice, and though you too may think about the expense first, you'll be happy you did.

I Thought the Engine Quit!
by Marvin-Baby Bonanza from Texas

Pros: Quiet. BlueTooth to phone.
Cons: Have to hard wire to i-Pad for ForeFlight audio alerts.
Review: Started engine, put A20 on. Forgot to turn it on. Hit power button. Thought engine quit. High dollar headset should not require hard wire for music/other devices.

I would buy this product again
by jim from Willcox AZ USA

Pros: expensive but worth the cost, works very well
Cons: expensive
Review: This product met my expectations. I am a new pilot and the noise canceling feature helped me hear both my instructor and the tower much more clearly. In addition I have a hearing loss in my left ear (race cars) and the individual adjustment for each ear allowed me to tune for each ear.

Simply the best...
by Zxgas from Abu Dhabi UAE

Pros: Outstanding quality
Cons: Short chord
Review: Even if I fly on Airbus family Bose provide such a level of communication quality that improve overall flight safety. The ANR ruduce drastically the noise induced fatigue.
My collegue skeptical approach rapidly vanish as soon I let them try the A20..;-)
Best buy ever!

Lives up to the hype
by Adam from Memphis TN USA

Pros: Sound quality, lack of clamping force, ease of use
Cons: None
Review: I started my flight training with a new DC 13.4, so my expectations were fairly high when I ordered the Bose a year later. I'd decided that when I made it to the checkride, I was going to reward myself with the best. I wasn't disappointed. Flying under a B shelf, I interact with Approach on a constant basis and my ability to hear instructions with the A20 is superb. I just started IFR training and I'm already loving bluetooth (phone) for opening/closing flight plans. Battery life is great, clamping force is less, and the headset is intuitive.

Very comfortable
by ABB330 from Burnsville MN USA

Pros: Comfort and Bluetooth
Cons: cord length and size
Review: More comfortable than Bose X headset.
Bluetooth works GREAT! Super clear, easy to use.
Sound quality is fine, although slightly "different" than Bose X.
Cord is too short and control area (with on/off and bluetooth and volume) is too fat so it is in the way.

Pros: Light, good ANR, very comfortable

Love it.
by A Customer from Sarasota FL USA

Review: I'm on the AB320 at a major.... Replaced my UFlyMic with the Bose A20. There is no comparison (in price or performance. Ha!)... Yes it is expensive but the head set is outstanding. Very comfortable. Easy to adjust ear cup volume separately so you can hear the other pilot(s) that don't have a headset. The battery pack is not an issue at all and hangs on a hook on the side windshield post. Battery life is very good. Boom mic is interchangeable to either side and perfectly made to accommodate left or right seat operations. Cord length is great. Makes radio calls much easier to understand, and that at a much lower volume than without the active noise reduction. Definitely good for hearing protection. I am very happy the performance and forgot all about how much it cost me. Did I really pay that much for a headset. Lol!

Bose Technical Support; Superior!
by James from Newberg OR USA

Pros: Great support on Aviation Headsets
Review: I had heard that Bose service support was not on par with others, say, Lightspeed. But after experiencing a problem with my mic I called the Bose Tech support line and WOW!

The tech took my information relayed it to an expert and had answer for me within the hour. A new harness showed up 3 days later. They also were able to give me the specs on mic bias for my headset, so I had my avionics guy check our a/c to make sure of our outputs.

very good
by A Customer from Danbury CT

Pros: sound
Cons: shuts off when not plugged into aircraft
Review: I'm a commercial pilot and recent flight instructor and needed an upgrade. Much better than my $120 pair of ASA headsets. Sound is very clear and noise canceling is great. Only bad thing is when I listen to music with them outside of the airplane (i don't listen to music inside the plane) they shut off every 7 minutes or so.
[Note from MyPilotStore:  There is an Auto-Off dip-switch in the battery compartment that will correct the issue with auto-shutoff.]

Have been flying for two months now with the A20's and they are awesome. My wife and I switch in flight between these and passive style. What a night and day difference.

The best for me!
by jr from Fort Pierce FL USA

Pros: Fit, volume controls and noise cancelling
Cons: price, but worth!!
Review: I've tried and thought the Lightspeed Zulu 2's were very good, but simply like the Bose A20 fit and volume controls better after flying with them many times. The noise cancelling is excellent. Also, the bigger diameter Bose plug in cord seems more sturdy long term.

Review: I had an opportunity to fly with the A20 in the pilot's position and the Bose X in the copilot's side. That gave me the opportunity to switch back and forth to compare the two. Daylight and dark. The noise canceling is far superior in the A20. I prefer the ear cup on the A20 also. Yesterdays flights were over 7 hours, and I had no discomfort at all. I am very happy I upgraded. I also am significantly hearing impaired, and the Bose is worth every penny in my circumstance.

great quality but bulky
by Fred from Clermont FL USA

Pros: Great noise cacelling. I am less tired at end of day.
Cons: Need to keep spare batteries handy and bulky
Review: Great noise cancelling, doesn't seem to shut off as easily as instructions imply, bulky, little tight around the ears but after awhile and a few adjustments you get used to it, if you use a HUD (Heads Up Display) system it seems to catch it if you lean forward.

Simply, the best ENC headset I have ever used as a professional pilot.
by Jack from Reno NV USA

Pros: Quality of design, workmanship, sound, function and durability.
Cons: The faux fur head pad could be longer over the head band and a bit thinner and the protective carry case constructed of balistic nylon, check out the bag with the upper end David Clark Company products... the only thing they have over the others aside of pricing. All said, who cares with the performance of the A20.
Review: Having used literally all the active noise cancelling aviation headsets available in the last decade or so the Bose A20 has superbly exceeded my expectations in all areas such as sound quality, design, workmanship, product support, and the list easily exceeds the space I have been given here in this review. Go figure eh... from perhaps the world leader in sound and audiophile technology.

Magnifficent!
by Sam from Vancouver WA USA

Pros: Comfort; crisp mic; MUSIC SOUNDS AWESOME!!!
Cons: $$$
Review: The A20 did not disappoint! If you're able to fork over the eleven-hundred clams, it's well worth it. When I was deciding between the A20 and the Lightspeed Zulu, the thing that caught my eye about the A20 even more than how many parts could be replaced, was that the frequency response went all the way down to 15Hz, which is below the normal range of human hearing; an extremely desirable trait to an audiophile like myself. As I hoped, music sounds spectacular! Not to mention the communication clarity. Comfort fell a bit short of the benchmark set by pair of passive over-ear Bose headphones I have. Pickiness aside, the A20 is amply comfortable, and has earned the coveted Sam J. seal of approval!

Love them!
by A Customer from USA

Pros: Great sound reduction. Very Comfortable!!
Cons: Cable and controller are a little bulky and sometimes in the way
Review: One of the biggest things for me was comfort. Previously I had been using David Clark's and they were sturdy and worked just fine, however, they were pretty uncomfortable for me. I was seeking a headset that would fit me better. I am a female, have a larger head but tiny ears. I heard some complaints about pressure on ears with the Bose... maybe those folks have larger ears.... I have yet to have any troubles with them. Even with a large head, I do not experience discomfort with too much pressure from the sides.

Better than I hoped
by EJ Lydon from Horsham PA USA

Pros: Comfort, DNR
Cons: None
Review: I was strongly encouraged to purchase my own headset instead of renting at the FBO during my flight lessons. Fatigue would be reduced aside from hygiene concerns. When I put them on for my first flight I was modestly happy with the improvement in comfort and noise reduction. And then I realized I hadn't even turned the headset on yet! I was really happy after that! Great investment. Buy the best and don't be disappointed. I did and I'm not!

Game changer
by Jamie from Minneapolis MN USA

Pros: Good-bye loud airplane. Light and comfortable. Well constructed.
Cons: Now that the airplane is quiet, where's good music audio? Bluetooth has minimal features.
Review: Now and then some technology comes along that changes the game. That's the case with the A20. Spendy up front, but well made and, moreover, well worth it in terms of making the noisy aircraft environment startlingly and spooky quiet. I love it! My only complaint is that they need to refine the BlueTooth inerface and the music audio. Let's face it, on long cross country flights, great sound is fun. Bose drops that ball here. When I bought this headset, I was looking to buy a pair (pilot and copilot). I also bought the Sennheiser S1 thinking I'd try 'em both, then return the second in exchange for the winning set. I've kept one of each. The A20 to get rid of noise (local flights) and the Sennheiser S1 for fun cross-country. The Sennheiser's noise-cancellation is okay, but the A20's is stunning.

Great upgrade from the Bose X
by A Customer from Houston TX USA

Pros: best noise cancellation, excellent comfort, hearing aid friendly
Cons: Manual

Vast positive difference in both noise cancellation and comfort. Bluetooth works perfectly with the iPhone. I wear hearing aids and they work fine with no feedback.

Not sure why they made it necessary to manually power it up each time.

Incredible Product
by Stefan 'Sto' from Paris (France) Lagos (Nigeria)

Pros: Sound, Confort, Noise cancelation, Autonomy, Bluetooth
Cons: Nil
Review:

I have now been flying for almost 400hours with it (on Falcon 900) and there is no way I will change. Sound is very clear (very important in the environment I am flying).  The headset is comfortable even during 8 hours flights, the autonomy even better than advertised and the bluetooth just perfect.

All the people I fly with are either going to get one or whish they had one.

Bose does it again! Great product!
by A Customer from Irving TX USA

Pros: Comfortable to wear, extremely clear and the volume wheel controls are very useful. Have not tried the bluetooth feature but I anticipate this will be very helpful.
Cons: None
Review: Incredible product! The noise protection and clarity is amazing and is envied by my flight instructors (several of whom plan to buy one). The clarity is very beneficial for new flyers who are still learning communications because they won't have to be concerned about noise and can focus solely on practicing communications skills.

Yep, it's a $1k headset
by Jeremy from Spokane WA USA

Pros: High quality, excellent ANR, VERY comfortable, no complaints
Cons: Price, but it was worth it for me
Review: I got exactly what I paid for, no more and certainly no less. It has a hefty price tag, but it's an excellent headset which, in my opinion, warrants the price. If you're a career general aviation pilot, I would highly recommend this headset. If you're a weekend flyer, you'll still love it but I wouldn't recommend breaking the bank to get it.

Review: PREVIOUSLY I HAD BEEN USING A SENNHEISER ANR HEADSET. THIS HEADSET IS FAR MORE COMFORTABLE MAKING A 3-5 HOUR FLIGHT FAR MORE PLEASANT AND LESS FATIGUING. THE BATTERY SYSTEM ALSO FUNCTIONS MORE EFFICIENTLY.

A20
by Jacob from Sydney, NSW, Australia

Cons: Passive noise reduction is not great an lets in a lot more noise then the old dodgy set that has been at my flight school for what seems like 100 years. But as long as you have batteries for ANR, it shouldn't be a problem.
Review: Very good headset. ANR is great! Passive noise reduction isn't amazing especially when wearing sun glasses, which is 95% of the time.
Very comfy and light on my head but strong enough clamping that they don't move during aerobatics. Very good bag.

Review: WOW!!! I started up my Glasair with my new headsets in place and noticed a better-than-I-usually-experience noise reduction. Then, I turned them on. Wow!! The noisy Lycoming engine immediately seemed to turn itself into an idling Kobota diesel tractor from 20 yards. Touch and goes only added huge wow-factor to the experience which had started out at outstanding and only got better from there. Well done Bose! Wish I had made this investment 10 years ago...

Pros: light weight---noise cancelling works great--always buy again
Cons: i have experienced the headset shuts off from time to time--can figure out why---have changed booms---no difference---have made sure the auto off switch is set correctly---but it still shuts off every 30 minutes or so----anyone have a solution for this??
Review: Love the Bose products. have been using the headsets since the first came out in 97 or so---that one was pretty bulky. have bought everyone since---

a very good product with a few flaws
by Charles from Broome WA Australia

Pros: Noise cancelation, comfort
Cons: Battery life, Music capability, craftmanship
Review: The bose A20 avation headset isn't all its cracked up to be. Although the noise cancellation feature is as good as it gets and allows you to fly, in comfort, hours without fatigue, a few small things need improvement.

The main chord of the headset always tangles on its self due material.
The battery doesn't last 40 flight hours, probably closer to 25.
Can't blutooth music must use AUX cable
No setting that will dim the music volume when transmissions are received its either cut completely off or stays the same volume.
Remote a little cheap and flimsy for the price you're paying expect more.

Great headset
by Greg from Lake Forest, CA

Pros: Lightweight & comfortable
Cons: Very expensive!!!
Review: I wore a David Clark headset for a couple of years. This headset blows the David Clark out of the water. It's much more comfortable and easy on the ears. I like the Bluetooth option so you can talk on your phone or listen to music (not that cell phones work that great at hight altitudes). Because I fly helicopters, I still get cell phone reception most of the time. They are pricey but worth the preservation of your hearing long term.

Great headset!
by A Customer from Portland, oregon

Pros: ANR is great makes it easier to hear ATC and others inside.
Cons: Cost, would like to be able to use the Bluetooth for more like other headsets allow.
Review: Haven't used it a lot yet, but I will be daily. People seem to have issues if they want to use the Bluetooth to listen to music but, I have had no issues if I use my phone to play music over the bluetooth, a Nokia N8. When I tried the same on my IPad or an android phone it didn't work, not sure why this is but it is. Other than that it works great!

Too much "buck" for the overall "bang"
by A Customer from Rapid City SD USA

Pros: Comfortable and lightweight
Cons: Limited Bluetooth functionality
Review: Bose makes a very nice headset. It is comfortable to wear and lightweight. However, the noise canceling could be better and the Bluetooth functionality is limited. Although the product description says otherwise, you can only use Bluetooth when making or receiving calls. You cannot use Bluetooth for listening to music, or listening to your email or text messages being read to you. You can however, plug in your phone or MP3 player using the auxiliary jack. All in all, I expected more for the price.

BOSE A20 w/bluetooth
by Larry from Middletown MD USA

Pros: Noise reduction, light weight, long battery life
Cons: short cord
Review: I'm 58. I've been using Dave Clarks for the last 30 years, 20 of which with ANR. I tried a friends Bose A20 and was shocked at the difference. I wish I would had spent the money years earlier. Know my hearing will be preserved and I won't miss the ATC calls I use to. My friend has had his 6 months without having to change the batteries. Love the Bluetooth feature also . Works great for a clearance at the end of the runway. The only thing I don't like is the very short cord. I did purchase a 5 ft. extension cord to remedy the problem.

Really worth the Big $$$
by Robert from Edmond OK USA

Pros: Sturdy, comfortable, unbelievable noise reduction, individual volume controls, bluetooth to phone, audio in
Cons: Expensive (but still, its worth the price)
Review: I really found it hard to believe a headset would be good enough to be worth the associated price tag, but after hearing all the raves about it, I decided to take a chance. When it first arrived I put it on in the house, standing next to a box fan, and could hear the whirring of the fan. I hit the power button to turn on the ANR and *poof* the fan noise disappeared and there was silence. I didn't realize how poorly other headsets reduced noise until I tried this. I was just as impressed when I flipped the ANR on inside the cockpit. Quite unbelievable. I LOVE this headset!

Pros: Quiet! Quality! Bose!
Cons: Scared to put them on the floor of the cockpit when exiting, too nice.

It's a Bose, what do you expect?
by Chris from Gainesville VA USA

Pros: Talking through Bluetooth.
Cons: I've never liked the Bose price.
Review: Flying around in a Jetsream, first wanted to try the top of the line Telex - big mistake. Decided on the A20 Bose. The Bluetooth rocks, but callers on the other say it does sound "different." It is cool talking on the phone with your headset on though.

Had to go with a new headset after my Dave Clark's were lost in the mail.

Very Happy
by Melon from Chicago IL USA

Pros: Clearer communications, less fatigue, comfortable.
Cons: Expensive, voice pass thru could be better.
Review: This has been a good purchase for me. As a copilot on B-767's I have found this to be a wonderful product. I get to my destination much less fatigued and my hearing takes less time to readjust to the surroundings. As a commercial pilot the Bluetooth is an unneeded upgrade and I wish the external voice pass though was a little better. With no active interphone on my aircraft, I find myself pulling the left earcup off during the departure and approach phase to hear the Captain, but since the noise level then is very low, it's not a big deal. I do find myself missing far fewer controller calls then I did in the past with an open air headset.

siginificant improvement in my open cockpit
by A Customer from Freeland MD USA

Pros: comfortable fit. Reduced noise level
Cons: mike sometimes cuts out in wind
Review: A significant improvement on the noise level and communication in my open cockpit biplane. The comfort is also wonderful and it fit nicely into my David Clark Helmet. I do notice that it sometimes cuts out if too much wind hits the mike and I have to cover the mike with my free hand. I am very pleased

Great headset for my noisy PA32
by FM from Monterrey, MX

Pros: ANR, comfort, folding
Cons: Bulky, Expensive
Review: I used a Clarity Aloft headset during my private pilot training, mostly because of it's size and the scorching summer in Texas (No A/C on the C152!).
Now that I got my License and decided to invest on a high quality headset, I decided to compare my Clarity Aloft with the Zulu2 and the Bose A20.
Comparing the three it was easy to cast aside my Clarity Alofts, simply because of the ANR feature on both Zulu2 and A20s.
So, comparing both I decided on the A20 mainly because of their comfort, and folding ability when storing. The price didn't come into play much, because I plan on having the headsets for a really long time. After 6 months of heavy use, I'm glad I bought the A20s, no complaints so far...

NOTE TO ALL REGARDING SQUEEKY LEFT EARCUP!
by Jim from United Kingdom

Pros: Comfortable, ANR is flawless, customer service
Cons: ANR/Ear cup faulty after little use - now resolved
Review: The A20 cannot be compared to any other headset i've used in the past, including the X. The noise cancelling is great UNTIL it develops that awful squeaky sound in the left ear cup! After about 2 months use, the left ear cup would squeak when I moved it away from my ear, or even when I just turned my head. Fortunately Bose have a great warranty repair centre over here in the UK and I sent it to them and it was done with a few days. Great customer service! As you would expect for the amount this thing set me back. Great headset, but be weary of this fault as I hear it's quite common.

I have purchased two an am going to buy another shortly.
by Ron from Cypress TX USA

Pros: Bose quality and comfort through and through.
Cons: Absolutely none
Review: What can you say about the leader in sound. From fantastic stereo sound systems to entertainment systems Bose in my book is the only way to go. I absolutely appreciate the quality of my head set. It is Bose through and through. The blue tooth feature works perfectly with very little effort in pairing the phone to it. It works great in the plane for making calls, and most people don't know your calling from the plane. The noise cancelling is incredible. All I can say is "If you dont have a Bose head set",get one.

Pros: Comfort, ability to focus on communication
Cons: Expensive
Review: Great headphones. I first tried out the Zulu.2 and was impressed, yet, for that amount of money, I wanted to be sure so I tried the Bose A20 and am glad that I did. I know that most will say that the two headphones are comparable but, for my ears and a noisy 172, I found the Bose to be much better. The noise cancelling is so good that it may be a safety issue as I cannot hear the engine at 1000 rpm but enugh at cruise to give me reasnoable feedback, but I would be hard pressed to detect some potentially important changes in pitch. I pay closer attendtion to the guages as a result...not a bad thing, in all. However, the ability to focus on effective communication is greatly enhanced.

Good value for money
by Dirk from Otjiwarongo Namibia

Pros: Very comfortable and excellent noise reduction, the bluetooth fuction works excellent as well
Cons: Some clamping pressure remains, although it is negligible. Music can only be listened to via an AUX cable.
Review: Switching over to the A20 from the classic David Clark headset was like entering a different world! The noise reduction on the A20 is really good and even works well when flying a two-bladed helicopter doors off. The A20 sits comfortably on the head and even with sunglasses does not cause any discomfort. The bluetooth call function works well and makes conversations a pleasure while flying. All in all I am very happy with this purchase!

Squeaky noise in the left ear cup
by Russ from Florida

Pros: The best ANR in the industry.
Cons: Squeak in the left ear cup
Review: Bought this product to replace my aging Bose X. Bose X needed an upgrade because, after 2 years of use (at 2-4 flight hours per day, commercial flying) it started to develop a warbling noise in the left ear cup followed by the ANR turning off few seconds later. The new A20 worked A-OK until I noticed a strange squeaky sound in the left cup every time I remove the headset of move the left ear cup away from my ear. Although, in general, A20 is much quiter then Bose X and Zulu 2.0, this squeak seems like an annoying under-engineering, especially for such price. 4 out of 5, overall.

Quiet Quite Suprised
by PC12 Guy from AZ

Pros: Size, fit and ANR quality
Cons: Price
Review: All I can say is wow and I can say it very quietly. First off, let me start by saying that these things are fantastic. I have used other headsets and most were big and bulky often too big and heavy for my tastes. These new A20 headsets are comfortable and work extremely well. I had a set of Zulu 2s that failed so I ordered these while I waited for my Zulus to be repaired. Worst case, I figured I would send them back and take advantage of the free trial. Needless to say, I kept these and I gave the Zulus to my brother. I like the look, the feel, the size and the quality of the ANR. I wish the Bluetooth allowed for music playback but the cable works just fine so no big deal. I suspect that I will get better battery life using the cable vs. Bluetooth in the Zulus so I welcome that trade off. Most ANR headsets are all pretty good now a days. It all comes down to personal preference. What fits your head, your plane, sounds the best, looks good and most importantly, your budget. These are not cheap, but in my opinion, this tool is worth every penny. Oh, and by the way, how much is your hearing worth?

Great noise cancelling
by Kalvin from Chad, Africa

Pros: Great noise cancelling with comfortable earseals.
Cons: Padding on top could be better. Get some pain on the top of my head during longer flights.
Review: I am very satisfied with my Bose A20! The noise cancelling puts my former ANR headset to shame. I love the comfortable earseals. The quality of sound is impressive so the bluetooth is great for listening to music during flight.

Awesome!
by Ryan from Vista CA USA

Pros: The best of the best. Compact design, Superior Noise Canceling
Cons: Price is high but its the best!
Review: I ran this against the Sennheiser S1's and the A20's are the clear winner! They are much more compact which is important when looking over my shoulder. The S1's were constantly catching on my seat belt. The A20s seldom have this problem. The A20's were also noticeably better on sound quality and noise canceling.

Bottom line, I returned the S1's because of a failure and went with the A20's and am very happy with them. I will be purchasing another 4 in the near future for the rest of my family.

Pay the extra money, they are worth it!!!

Excellent tool for professionals and amateurs
by A Customer from Pont-la-Ville Switzerland

Pros: ANC just perfect
Cons: Weight, wearing glasses
Review: I am an airliner pilot. I flew big jet aircraft. Went professionally back to a turboprop. All "light" portable headsets available on the market were providing some coverage but never a total quietness. You'll find this with this Bose A20. Untired from constant noise of the engines you may even get out of your duty "fresh as a rose", as really no outside disturbing high and low freq. noise is perceptive. Strongly recommend you use rechargeable batteries of course. The headset is sold with a small bag, protecting your expensive tool from all external damages. One or two negative thing though. If you wear glasses or sunglasses the noise reduction is only effective when totally sealed around your ears. Wearing glasses or sunglasses allows a tiny "gap" and you'll hear just a bit (do not exaggerate either!) of the external noises, but no excessive pressure is felt on your ears!! Second thing for professionals the headset is quite "heavy" on long duties but I personally think that toward the comfort it provides compared to all my previous headsets you'll forget about it very easily. Headset is efficient and reliable. Not a doubt I would buy it again.

Expensive, but worth every penny
by Jimmy from Thibodaux LA USA

Pros: No "headset-head" nor discomfort after multi-hour trips.
Cons: Cost
Review: Bought the Bose after careful consideration, really was leaning toward the German competitor (Sennheiser S1), but after reading a few not-totally-satisfied reviews of the other headset, decided to go big and get the Bose A20 Bluetooth model. Picking up a clearance at an uncontrolled airport through the headset sounds like a really good reason to spend the extra hundred dollars. Bose is simply the best! Have flown single-engine Cessnas for 2+ hours without any discomfort, and in a King Air, it is truly whisper-quiet.

The Real Thing!
by Anthony from East London South Africa

Pros: ANR works really well!!
Cons: Feel like they need to handled with kid gloves.
Review: This is my first headset. Until I bought this I used the clubs headsets which were okay but not the best. Once I started using the Bose I found infinitely easier to hear and understand the ATC and other traffic. This I found especially useful as I am a new pilot and am still getting used to the general aviation language, etc. Not having to try and figure it out over a noising headset improved my enjoyment of flying and took a lot of pressure/stress out of the flying equation.

My first set of batteries lasted about 25 hours. I did not play any music during this time and probably only made about 10 minutes of phone calls.

Would buy again
by A Customer from Reykjavik Iceland

Pros: Excellent comfort, noise cancelling and sound quality.
Cons: None to speak of
Review: I bought this headset to replace my 9 year old (about 5000 flight hours) Bose Aviation X headset. The A20 is a very good headset, it's comfortable noise canceling is excellent as is the sound quality. Its great to be able to listen to music. Although I have to use the aux. cord because you cant listen to music through Bluetooth.

However I would like to be able to set volume on the headset lower. The main cord is also a little to cumbersome and stiff in my opinion and because of that you are a little bit aware of it during flight and if it drags or bounces against the interior of the cockpit that sound carries to the ear-cup. I also believe the carrying case should be configured so the headset sits up side down so it doesn't rest on cord where it attaches at the bottom of the ear-cup.

Simply Excellent - Highly Recommended
by David from Erie CO USA

Pros: Stunningly Good Noise Cancellation / Very Comfortable
Cons: Ouch price. But it's worth it.
Review: As a user of the previous generation headsets, I did not think that much would change. I really got this for the bluetooth capability, which allows me to call center on cell for IFR clearance while on the ground when departing an untowered airport (where I am based).  To my delight, they are even more comfortable than the previous ones, and offer more noise suppression, and do not suffer the ear cup deformation that the older ones.

You won't regret it!
by A Customer from BELGIUM

Review: Very good purchase, on all aspect, a bit disappointed by the fact it uses more battery than expected but still really reasonable. Maybe the shape of my head I don't know but the little cushion lets some connection cables pushing through it and in some position it can become uncomfortable, I'm sure there is a solution to that though like refitting the cushion differently, or something like, but note that I'm using it on line flights and for long succeeding periods as well.

Overall very good product and will certainly reduce stress and fatigue level significantly, thats for sure!

Great except, have to power on each time? Really?
by A Customer from Daytona Beach, FL

Pros: Sound
Cons: Manual power on for each flight for each headset.
Review: Have used every series of Bose since the first, love them but they always seem to miss just one thing. On the A-20 it is the fact that even though my units are ship powered (no batteries) I have to after engine start (twin turbine) press and hold the on button for each headset.
This may sound like a minor squawk, but it is completely unnecessary if they had just left the slide power switch form the X's. Since I usually have a non-pilot in the front right seat I have to dig out that one to turn on as well as it takes longer to explain than do myself.
If it seems like a minor complaint, remember, twin turbine, plenty of switches to flip to get underway, do not appreciate Bose thinking I needed 4 more (Passenger headsets too).

The best headphones. Really comfortable and noise erasing.
by Marco from ITALY

Pros: The best noise reduction headphone ever
Cons: Price very hight. Too much reduction on engine noise
Review: The product it's really fantastic. It met all the expectations.
Really good noise canceling, perhaps too much!!!
What I don't like the noise canceling is too much!!  You have no idea of what the engine is doing!
Others Week points: Bluetooth is useless unless you do not want to listen to music. I found difficult using the phone on flight.
Although I recognize this are the best headphone ever, coming back I would have bought a David Clarke basic model. Since they are cheaper and you can still hear a bit of the engine noise.

Worth the money
by Diane from Tulsa OK USA

Review: Makes a major difference I have tinnitus and couldn't afford any additional hearing loss. My tinnitus has gotten better I even take them on commercial flights looks a little goofy but don't have 2-3 days of worse tinnitus if I use it.

I have a smaller head and it adjusts well.  Zulu was too large

Good purchase

Almost perfect
by Craig from Melbourne VIC Australia

Pros: ANR is great. Comfort is great. Batteries last for the advertised time.
Cons: Very intermittent static through right side speaker
Review: Everything is great except for some occasional static type noise on the right side. Only happens 1 flight out of about 40, but it's still very annoying when it happens.

AWESOME!
by Jacob from Sacramento CA USA

Pros: Well made in USA, ANR, Comfy
Review: Right now I'm a student pilot, so my perspective is still narrow.

I chose the Bose A20's because I knew I had a long road of school ahead of me, and don't really like to buy things twice. It was between the Zulu and the A20's. My instructor said Zulu, but the fact that Bose are made in the USA trumped.

Since I have got them, I have no regrets. Very comfy, ANR is great. Sunglasses fit under the ear muffs quite well also.

The way I look at - Buy once, cry once.

Bose A20 vs Bose X
by Dcomp from South Carolina

Pros: Blue tooth
Cons: sound and mic quality not as good as Bose X
Review: Been using Bose X for over 7 years and bought Bose A20 for upgrade. Found the A20 disappointing compared to my Bose X with regard to sound quality and mic quality. In addition, the ANR quality was much better on my older Bose X. Bose had a recall when I ordered my A20 back in Nov 2010 and did not receive until late December 2010. I have been a pilot for over 21 years and fly for business in my Cardinal RG and have found my Bose A20 unsatisfactory. I have since shipped back the A20 to Aircraft Spruce for a full refund.

Worth Every Cent
by Adam from Columbus OH USA

Pros: Noise cancelation, Bluetooth.
Cons: Control Box can be a little bulky.
Review: Works great. There is a very noticeable difference when you turn on the noise reduction which makes for quite flight and allows even the most faint radio calls to be heard. I find the blue tooth function very helpful when phoning flight service to open flight plans at uncontrolled airports. This headset is also very comfortable during extended flights. The ear cushions are very soft and the clamp force is far less then most headsets I have tried.

Wonderful Headset!
by Patrick from Daytona Beach, FL

Pros: Comfort, noise cancellation, and features.
Cons: Price
Review: I am a flight instructor and had been using the Lightspeed 3G for the past few years. Its noise cancellation was fine and it served the purpose. The A20's is truly amazing. I had borrowed a friend's Bose X for a cross-country and found it more comfortable than the Lightspped 3G, but the noise cancellation was only marginally better. The A20 is no contest. It is the best headset I have ever used, by far. I know it's expensive, but if you're going to spend any extended period of time in a plane, it's a must.

Moving ahead with leaps and bounds
by Robert from reno NV USA

Pros: Lighter, more noise attenuation, Blue toooth calls are excellent.
Cons: none in my opinion.
Review: I have owned three generations of this product now and used them in all types of aircraft and all types of environments. Simply put, it's almost a perfect product. I don't know how they could improve on this headset. I am so happy with the upgrade. Nice work Bose !!! Good luck on improving on this, but if you do, I will be placing an order. Long time, very happy customer.

Review: Huge improvement from the X. However there is one problem. When I am doing a soft field landing I was used to hearing the increase in rpm. First approach... We'll just call it a go around. I couldn't hear the engine until it hit almost 1500 rpm. Best headset ever. Will be buying more in the future.

Great noise reduction . . . too bad about the comm failure!
by A Customer from

Pros: Absolutely Great Noise Reduction
Cons: Reliability, Price, Service
Review: Paid the bucks. Got the best noise reduction I have heard yet. Light, Comfortable and great sound. That was the first six weeks. Then . . . Mic wire connection in headset went from working perfectly to complete comm failure in a one hour flight. Now . . . Back-Ordered. Thank goodness I still have my old, reliable David Clarks with their less than perfect noise reduction.

With price comes excellence
by A Customer from NJ USA

Pros: Great sound, comfortable
Cons: Cost
Review: The A20 is great. I purchased the A20 about one month ago and to this day have not had one complaint with them. The sound quality is amazing. I have not have a problem hearing or being heard. The A20 is great for long flights as well because they are pain free. One of the most comfortable headset I have ever worn. Bluetooth is a cool feature however, still have yet to use it. I have played around with it, but still have not used it for its full purpose yet. I would recommend purchasing this product if you have an extra 1000 dollars lying around. However, that is the only flaw I see with the A20 and my only reason for giving it a 4 star rating instead of 5.

Now I'm willing to gush over a headset
by rjb mx7-180cNow from Los Altos Hills CA USA

Pros: comfortable, quiet,
Cons: expensive
Review: I had previously invested in 2 David Clark ANR X11s and had upgraded one. I never felt like gushing over how quiet or comfortable they were and sometimes cycled power just to reassure myself I had turned them on. The Bose are fabulous: sufficient when turned off, and wonderfully effective when turned on.

Very pricey, but worth it.
by Richard from Albuquerque NM USA

Pros: ANR, Bluetooth and comfort
Cons: Price
Review: I had a Flightcom Denali ANR that worked great in my 172R, but when I bought my DA40 the vent noise was so high I had the volume on the radio at 55% (G1000) and still had a hard time hearing the radio. Even though I feel that Bose is way over priced and a real stinker for making all the authorized dealers sell at retail, I decided to give the A20 a try. I figured if I didnt like the headset I could return it within 30 days. I ordered the Bluetooth model. I figured that I could use that feature to get ATIS and ASOS before fight and whats another $100 after spending over a $1,000. When I received the headset I was actually hoping that it wasnt any better and I could get my money back, but I was also hoping that it did the job on the vent noise because that was very annoying. When I first tried the headset I couldnt believe the difference. I had to turn the volume down to 27% because the radio was too loud. The Bluetooth worked like a champ. Of course, the real test was going to be flying and the vent noise. After takeoff, I opened the vents all the way and although I could still hear them I did not have to increase the volume and all the radio calls are clear as a bell. I'm thinking the outside microphones on the headset that adapt to different noises make the difference. The headset is also very comfortable. I've now put about twenty hours on the headset and needless to say I wont be sending the headset back. I'm so happy that the vent noise is now controlled. The overall noise level in the plane is much quieter than with my other ANR headset.

Quiet & Comfortable
by Joe - CFI, CFII from Rhode Island

Pros: Quiet, light and comfortable. Bluetooth makes closing flight plans at airports without an RCO much easier.
Cons: Expensive... very expensive.
Review: Shortly after starting my PPL training six years ago, I picked up a used David Clark H10-13X ANR headset from eBay. It was far better than the ASA HS-1 loaners my flight school had, and I swore by them for years. Once I began instructing however, they would feel heavy by the end of the day, so I decided to upgrade. The DC's passive attenuation is far better than the Bose, so I'm sure to carry extra batteries. That's rarely an issue though, because the A20's module warns you well before they die. Once they're dead, that's it... no pops and clicks like with the DCs; it just shuts off. I got 51 hours from the set that it shipped with, and I've got almost 70 hours on the Duracells I have in there now and the amber light just started coming on at the end of flights. Time will tell what overall quality is for the mic windscreen, ear seals, and the headset itself.

Yellow Light....
by GAP from Santa Barbara CA USA

Pros: Excellent Noise Reduction, good fit, replaceable head pad
Cons: Bluetooth failed in one week. BT volume knob fell off. Replacement is taking weeks due to OS
Review: I own a Bose X, and a Lightspeed Zulu. This Bose A20 was my third Headset.

The Bose X has proven to be rock solid, comfortable and works great. The Lightspeed Zulu is also well made, comfortable, has better NR, the Bluetooth works well, (although there are perhaps too many cables involved if you want to also hook up your iPod for music). The Control module design and controls do not inspire great confidence in their longevity, but so far have worked well. The Bose A20 has better NR than the X, and I would say that it is roughly on a par with the LSZulu, so I would say they are even there.

The A20 control module, however, is even more "plasticy" and fragile than the LSZulu, and indeed the Bluetooth volume adjustment knob, just fell off or broke off during normal use after about 4 flights. The Bluetooth electronics also just quit working at all, at the same point.

I called Bose and they agreed to replace the unit, but by the time the RMA arrived, they had none left to ship me, and it is now going to be weeks and perhaps over a month before they can replace the unit. First let me say that I am a good, and frequent purchaser of Bose audio products, and this is the first time I have had one fail in 10 years of Bose purchases. This experienced reliability is why I purchased their new headset instead of another LSZulu. Features and NR performance, being equal, I chose Bose. Now, I am very disappointed, and given the nature and timing of the failure, I have to say this issue should not have happened with their new $1000+ headset, and feels like a too early release of a new product, due perhaps to arrogance and greed on the part of Bose, in releasing a less than perfect new product in order to get it to market quickly. This almost immediate failure and the questionable product design, make me believe they rushed the A20 to market before it was fully tested in order to compete with the LSZulu, which offered better NR performance, desirable, up to date additional features the Bose X did not, and was clearly taking market share away from Bose in the professional market. I suspect they did not adequately test the sub components, materials and product design of their unit to make sure it was rock solid like the X is.

My conclusion is that it is potentially a good unit, and can undoubtedly be reconfigured to provide good service, but they may have to adjust some materials and 'chips' to make it right if there prove to be reliability, strength or product design issues with the product, as I suspect based on my experience. Bose is a strong company, and can, and I believe will, fix any flaws in their new design, and make it right for their trusting customers, but it is annoying and expensive to be caught in what looks to me like a "beta test" situation with a new product, and a rush to meet sales quotas instead of retaining an adequate supply of units for field failure replacements. When I spend over a thousand dollars for an aviation headset, I expect "perfect" and "well tested" and excellent Quality Control. Clearly, this did not happen this time.

Definitely worth the price
by Jaker from Dalllas, TX

Pros: Audio quality, bluetooth functionality, comfort, weight
Cons: Price
Review: This has to be the most comfortable, ergonomic, quietest headset I have ever used. You can put this puppy on and completely forget it's even there. Audio quality of communications is superb, as well as the line-in for MP3 sound. The bluetooth functionality works flawlessly (with my iPhone) and I can honestly say that when I'm able to afford a plane, every headset in that plane will be one of these. For now, I guess only I get to enjoy these. I've tried the Sennheiser HMEC-460 in the past, as well as a Lightspeed Zulu. I recommend this Bose A20 over both of them, hands down (if you're willing to shell out the cash). Go big or go home. =)

Great product, but needs auto power-on
by Michael from Agoura Hills CA USA

Pros: Quiet, Bluetooth works well
Cons: Needs to be turned-on manually each time you use the headset
Review: This is a nice upgrade, quieter than the Bose Aviation X headsets and the Bluetooth works great. One problem with this set is that, unlike the Aviation X, this new A20 panel-powered headset doesn't turn-on automatically, like the Aviation X units did. So if you forget to turn it on, you may have a hard time communicating until you can locate the power module and turn on the unit. I liked how the previous Aviation X units did this automatically. I haven't seen any settings that let me make this unit come on automatically when panel power is available.

Expensive, but what is your hearing worth?
by David from Alpharetta GA USA

Pros: Light, very quiet, Bluetooth very nice.
Cons: Can be tricky getting a good seal when wearing glasses. $$$
Review: I got to compare the A20s against the Lightspeed Zulus and an older Bose X headset. From least to most quiet with ANR off: X, Zulus, A20s. From least to most quiet with ANR on: X, Zulus, A20s. Most comfortable and easiest to get right on my head with sun glasses on (least to most): X, A20, Zulus. Better Bluetooth performance: A20s. I'm keeping the A20s.

Previous Customer Questions For Bose A20 Aviation Headset with Bluetooth:
Ask Your Own Question
On Thursday, October 11, 2012 a customer asked:
Q:
Hi can i purchase the A20 with a plug for the airbus? is it battery powered, or aircraft powered? bluetooth? thnks
A:

To get the Bose A20 with the XLR plug for Airbus, you would need to purchase the Bose A20 Headset without a cable assembly and then purchase the Bose A20 Cable Assembly with Bluetooth - Straight Cord, XLR Connector for Airbus. It is a 67" cable that includes an electret microphone with a Bluetooth control module. No batteries required and it is also FAA TSO'ed.

On Monday, June 25, 2012 a customer asked:
Q:
With the fixed wing 2 cable setup, do you need batteries for ANR to work or would being plugged into the comm system power ANR?
A: Yes, two AA batteries would be required.  The batteries will power the ANR system as well as the Bluetooth system.

On Tuesday, June 05, 2012 a customer asked:
Q:
Does the helicopter version have a coiled cord?
A: No, Bose no longer makes any headset with a coiled cord.  On their old model (the Bose X) they did offer a coiled cord version, but when they introduced the Bose A20 they only offer straight cord for everything.  The helicopter version is a straight cord with a single U-174/U plug.

On Wednesday, February 08, 2012 a customer asked:
Q:
I am planning to buy Bose A20 with blue tooth. I want the ability to use in aircraft with dual plugs as well as with Redel connector. Can you recommend how should I proceed?
A: If you want to be able to use it with both panel powered (Redel) and non-powered (dual plugs), we would recommend that you get the Bose A20 headset that is panel powered and the Bose A20 6-pin Redel to Fixed Wing Adapter.    This allows you to use it in a panel powered aircraft without any adapters and then when you are using it in an aircraft that does not have a Redel connector, you just need to add the adapter and AA batteries to the battery box.

On Wednesday, December 14, 2011 a customer asked:
Q:
description states that it meets/exceeds TSO certification; but ARE they TSO certified? My airline requires TSO certification.
A: Yes, these ARE FAA C-139 TSO Certified and acceptable for use in all USA based airlines.

On Thursday, September 01, 2011 a customer asked:
Q:
Is the A20 compatible with my Blackberry Bluetooth cell phone?
A: Any mobile phone enabled with Bluetooth technology will work via Bluetooth connectivity.

On Saturday, June 11, 2011 a customer asked:
Q:
Is there an adaptor for your A20 set so that I can use the set for Helecopter flying as well as fixed wing plane flying?
A: Sure!  If you get the fixed wing model of the Bose A20, then you would need the Fixed Wing to Helicopter adapter.  If you get the Helicopter version of the Bose A20, then you would need the Helicopter to Fixed Wing adapter.  The other option would be to get a second cable assembly for the Bose A20.  We have the Bose A20 Fixed Wing cable assembly and the Bose A20 Helicopter cable assembly.

On Monday, February 07, 2011 a customer asked:
Q:
I'm thinking of getting the Redel connector version of the A20 w/bluetooth and buying a 2-plug adapter at the same time to have the greatest range of connection options. As the Redel version is aircraft powered and the 2-plug battery powered will I lose functionality if I use the Redel version via adapter in a 2-plug aircraft? I'm assuming the Redel version does not have batteries at all so must get power from the Redel connector...which I'm assuming it won't get when plugging into a 2-plug setup. Could be a dumb question but if you could clear it up for me I'd appreciate it. I'd hate to buy the Redel version only to find out that noise cancellation won't work if I go into a 2-plug airplane. Thanks.
A:

All of the Bose A20 headsets, including the panel powered version (Redel connector) have a battery box.  The battery box on the panel powered version is only used to power the bluetooth functionality and the power for the ANR comes from the aircraft electrical system.   If you purchase the panel powered A20 headset and the Bose A20 6-pin Redel to Fixed Wing Adapter you will be able to use the A20 in an aircraft equipped with the Redel connector and then, using the adapter, use it in an aircraft with the standard dual plugs.  When you use it with the adapter, the batteries will power both the bluetooth and the ANR functionality.

On Monday, January 24, 2011 a customer asked:
Q:
Can I listen to my MP3 player wirelessly via Bluetooth?
A: No, the Bluetooth mobile phone connectivity is for communications only. You can, however, plug your MP3 player into the AUX jack to hear your music.

On Monday, January 17, 2011 a customer asked:
Q:
This may be a dumb Q, but will the headset and mic work when not connected to the airplane, i.e., can I talk on my phone via bluetooth when I want to exit the plane and stay on my call?
A:

Not a dumb question at all.  Yes, you can use this outside of an aircraft to talk on a cell phone as long as there are batteries installed.
