With features that focus on aviation-only navigation and mapping, GPSMAP 695
is Garmin's ultimate portable MFD. Similar to the
Garmin 696, the
GPSMAP 695 comes with a large screen and detailed electronic charts - minus XM
compatibility - at a price you'll love.
See the Big Picture
The GPSMAP 695's bright 7-inch diagonal high-definition sunlight-readable
display makes detailed mapping easy to see day or night - you can even view an
entire approach plate on the large-format display. For easy operation, the bezel
around the screen includes soft keys and a joystick control. And with a fast 5
Hz GPS update rate, the 695 renders graphics and presents flight data smoothly
and continuously.
No Charts? No Problem.
With the addition of Garmin FliteCharts(R) and IFR map mode, the GPSMAP 695
has Class 1/Class 2 electronic flight bag (EFB) capability, reducing the use of
paper charts in the cockpit. With FliteCharts, you can quickly find and view all
U.S. NACO departure procedures (DP), standard terminal arrival routes (STARs),
approach charts and airport diagrams. If the current approach is known, GPSMAP
695 automatically selects the correct chart based on the flight plan. When in
IFR map mode, the 695 can display victor airways, jet routes, minimum enroute
altitude and leg distance, much like found on paper enroute charts.
Enhance Situational Awareness
The GPSMAP 695 features a high-resolution terrain page showing hazards
relative to your altitude and a vertical profile of terrain along your route of
flight. It comes with a built-in Jeppesen database, and an Americas, Atlantic or
Pacific terrain database. It also includes an obstacles database for the U.S. or
Europe. Using this information, the 695 displays your flight route over contour
terrain mapping. With information from the terrain and obstacles databases, the
695 monitors your current position in relation to surrounding terrain to provide
alerts. You can even customize your own minimum clearance levels to receive
terrain cautions. The 695 also comes with a realistic "view from space"
satellite imagery basemap.
Like other portable Garmin devices, the 695 includes the following enhanced
aviation databases:
- Garmin SafeTaxi(R)
Provides detailed taxiway diagrams and position information for over 850
U.S. airports. Preloaded on the unit, this information helps you navigate
unfamiliar airports with confidence and shows your aircraft's exact position
on the field.
- AOPA Airport Directory
Offers detailed information for over 5,300 U.S. airports, along with the
names and phone numbers of thousands of FBOs. Easily look up taxi services,
plan an overnight, and choose fuel stops, plus find ground transportation,
lodging, restaurants, local attractions and more.
- Private Airports and Heliports
Provides data on private airports and heliports throughout U.S. and Europe,
and materially expands your list of navigation and emergency "nearest"
options.
Receive Altitude-Sensitive Alerts
When in the air, Garmin's new Smart Airspace(TM) feature makes it easier than
ever to identify what airspace lies ahead. Smart Airspace automatically
highlights airspace close to your current altitude and de-emphasizes airspace
away from the current altitude, which gives you increased situational awareness.
Expand Your Portable
The GPSMAP 695 includes an SD card slot for extra memory and updates. Keep
track of the databases on your GPSMAP 695 through www.fly.garmin.com, our online
manager that helps you update, manage and purchase the latest aviation data for
your Garmin device, all in one place.

Best portable GPS available today by Kent Magnuson from Kearney,NE
Pros: easy for anyone to navigate on Cons: none Review: Our flight department has a 695 positioned in passenger area for map display and the pax really enjoy the reference. It is easier to use than others we have tried. I have it mounted on a stick attached to the seat rail, and plugged into a cig lighter for power. i keep charts current so I can use if needed (if our 696 in cockpit should fail).

best VFR nav aid available at the moment by Peter from Scottsdale AZ USA
Pros: Excellent terrain display Cons: No IFR DEP nor ARR, probably do to legality issues. Review: Excellent and big display. I fly multiple aircrafts and sometimes there is no time to get familiar with the nav instr. With the 695 you can at least get going and is great back up if you don't manage the aircraft's nav equipment later on. Satellite reception is very good and the Garmin menu is pretty intuitive and easy to use.Shame they don't give an IFR option, and the charger could be smaller. But it sure made navigation a lot more comfortable. Would buy it again.

On Tuesday, August 09, 2011 a customer asked:
Q: Does it have any info for Southern Africa?
A:
This specific version covers the Americas (North, South, Central America). However, we do offer the Garmin GPSMAP 695 Atlantic that covers Europe, Africa, West Asia, Greenland, and Iceland.
On Thursday, December 31, 2009 a customer asked:
Q: How much does it cost to update every 6 months for the GPSMAP 695?
A:
There are a number of subscription options for the 695 available. As Pilot In Command, it is your responsibility to decide how often it is necessary to update the different databases to enjoy a safe flight.
As of today (prices subject to change), the costs to upgrade different databases and services in the 695 are as follows:
- NavData - This is your main database that includes airports, VORs, NDBs, SUAs and more. This can be upgraded on a one time basis for $49.95 or you can get an annual subscription for $295.00. The data is updated every 56 days (eight weeks). Your 696 includes a pre-loaded NavData database as well as a coupon for one free upgrade.
- XM Weather. If you decide to get weather, you can get either the Lite for $29.99 or the Full Weather for $49.99/month.
- Obstacle Database. This digital database includes the locations of towers, tall buildings and other vertical obstructions that could be a potential source of hazard to pilots. A one-time update is $49.95 or you can get an annual subscription for $195.00. The data is updated every 56 days.
- Terrain Database. This is $150.00 to update. Since Terrain data does not include man-made objects (towers, airports, VORs etc.), updates to Terrain data do not occur on a regular basis.
- FliteCharts - NACO IFR Terminal Procedures. These are updated every 28 days. You can get a one-time update for $95 or an annual subscription for $395.00.
- SafeTaxi - SafeTaxi identifies runways, taxiways, FBOs, and hangars, as well as your aircraft's exact location on the field. A single one-time update is available for $49.95 or you can get an annual subscription for $195.00. The data is updated every 56 days.
- AOPA Database. Offers detailed information for thousands of U.S. airports along with airports of entry for Canada, Mexico and the Caribbean. It includes the names and phone numbers of thousands of FBOs, plus ground transportation, lodging, restaurants, local attractions and more. Updates are offered on a quarterly basis. Single updates are $49.95.
