Saitek X52 Flight Control System

The X52 Flight System is the premium stick model outside the Saitek Pro
Flight Range.
Featuring 23 buttons, three 8-way hat switches and 7 control axes, the X52
gives you 47 basic commands plus the control axes. But when you include the
programming options provided by powerful Saitek Smart Technology programming
software, which allows you to make use of the 3 position mode switch and Pinkie
shift switch, the total number of programmable commands rises to 282!
And if this isn’t enough, you can program even more commands by adding more
modes with the programming software. With the X52, you no longer need to touch
your PC keyboard during flight simulation so you can keep your hands planted
where they need to be – on the stick and throttle.
With all those commands, things could get confusing so you can use the
Multi-Function Display (MFD) screen to check programmed command names and use
the clock and stopwatch function for timing the legs of your flight plan.
The X52 also uses magnetic hall effect, non-contact sensors for the stick
movement, so you won’t ever need to worry about employing a ground crew for
regular services.

Almost ideal. by Steve from West St. Paul MN USA
Pros: Programming for individuality and authenticity Cons: A bit clutterd controls bunched up. Review: I personally would have liked a module, between the Joystick and the Throttle, to un-clutter the Joystick and the Throttle. I'd rather be twisting the twisters on a panel than having to look for it during the flights. The panel would make sense to have the various switches spaced for authentisity; like a Robinson R22, or perhaps the Cessna. The keyword is "I personally would have liked...". Everyone else might view differently: a pretty great item.

Sticky, catchy, or jerky joystick by Guyote from Boulder, CO
Pros: Relatively inexpensive, overall nice feel for the price. Cons: May need mod for smooth fine joystick movement Review: Being a purchaser of the old F16 Flight System from Thrustmaster back about 1997, 1998, I am relatively pleased with the Saitek system in X-Plane 8.60 and now 9. The only complaint I have is that the joystick is sticky when attempting small flight adjustments. It's great when you want to wail on the thing, it just doesn't have a smooth fine movement. I wonder if there is anything out there with real ball-bearing, or needle-bearing surfaces. The bearing surfaces on the Saitek are plastic and there is a pretty strong spring above to ensure decent centering when hands-off. I have experimented on this joystick by holding the spring-plate up while flying and I get remarkable control. I've tried talcum powder and several other lubricants to ease the movement (non-conductive of course), but I've not arrived at anything that does well. I tried shortening the spring by cutting a ring off of it, but the steel used for this spring defies my nippers. I think this is my next experiment, but I need to obtain a small enough phillips screw-driver to remove the spring do I can apply a hack-saw or something. Anyone else out there have any suggestions? If I can obtain the sort of feel I want from this joystick, I think I'd like to get the rudder-pedels...will get back what my old Thrustmaster system offered (alas, it died several years ago...) I would buy this product again. by A Customer from GLASGOW KY USA
Pros: Ease of programming, control response Cons: Rudder controls a little stiff Review: Loved response of controls and ease of programming. Meets or exceeds all of my expectations. I had a friend who purchased one about 6 months ago and he praised the product. Now that I am using it, I can see why he praised it so much. One of the best buys on the market today.

Maybe I'm too slow to grasp all the whistles and bells by David from Concord NC USA
Review: I enjoy this controller with Microsofts Flight Simulator 2004, but when I tried it out with X-Plane version 9.22 it did not communicate. I am still waiting for a reply from X-Plane to check out what they know. It is too soon to give a good reply; as I am not allowed to spend too much time at the 'girl-friend' (CPU) or the wife gets irrate. :-)) That's life.
