- 6 customer reviews.

Easy to Use, Rugged and Compact with Icom's “V Speed” Audio!
700mW* loud audio
Because air band radios are usually operated in high-noise environments, it
is essential for the radio to provide loud and clear audio. The IC-A14/S series
employs a BTL amplifier that doubles the audio output, offering loud and clear
audio that’ll cut through cabin or tarmac noise.
* Internal speaker only
Full keypad type or Simple keypad type
The IC-A14 full keypad type allows you to input the channel or frequency
directly and has an exclusive button for the 121.5MHz emergency channel. The
IC-A14 receives NAV and WX channels. The
IC-A14S simple keypad type provides
simpler operation with a minimum of buttons that is suitable for ground crews.
Compact, light weight and rugged body
The IC-A14/S series is compact (only 120mm tall) and light weight (approx.
350g including antenna and BP-232N). The water resistant construction,
equivalent to IPX4, provides reliable operation in wet conditions.
Large capacity Lithium-Ion battery pack
With the 2000mAh large capacity Lithium-Ion battery pack, BP-232N, the
IC-A14/S series provides stable output power and 18 hours long (approx.)
operating time*. The BP-261, battery case takes 6 AA (LR6) alkaline cells for
convenient battery backup.
* Typical operation, Tx:Rx: Stand-by=5:5:90.
200 channels with memory banks
A total of 200* memory channels can be named with an 8-character channel
name for easy recognition. For fast and simple operation, these channels can be
grouped into 10 memory banks*.
* IC-A14 only. The IC-A14S has 100 memory channels and memory banks are not
available.
BC-179 holder type battery charger
The battery charger, BC-179, securely holds and charges the radio, even in
bumpy conditions. The optional cigarette lighter cable, CP-22, can be used with the
BC-179.

by Michael from Bealeton VA USA
Pros: Long battery life, direct access for fast channel changes. Cons: Have not found any yet! Review: A very nice transceiver in a small package. I work the field in construction/maintenance and this radio never leaves my side. I really like the long battery life and direct access controls. I have never had a problem with the tower hearing me like some radios I've used before. Thanks!

Sturdy product by mike from springdale AR USA
Pros: Price, quality Review: It has all the features most pilots would want, but the memory recall operation isn't as intuitive as it could be. Overall still a nice radio.

Highly recommended! by A Customer from Gansevoort NY USA
Pros: Easy to use and sound is clear. Cons: Can't really think of any. Review: I like the fact that the radio doesn't take up a lot of space yet the sound is very clear and it has a long range. I also like the fact that not only can I store frequencies that I commonly use, but that I can keep it organized. Lastly, I like the fact it is simple to use. Once programming, I only have to hit the up or down arrow to change channels. I highly recommend this radio!

On Thursday, January 08, 2009 a customer asked:
Q: Will the external head set adpater and PTT for the A5 work on the A14
A:
The headset adapter will not work. The IC-A5 used the OPC-967 headset adapter and the IC-A14 uses the OPC-499 headset adapter. The same Icom PTT can be used on both transceivers.
On Thursday, May 29, 2008 a customer asked:
Q: Does the IC-A14 have nav, VOR capabilities? I dont see specifics about the VOR functions.

The IC-A14 does receive the Navigation Band frequencies (108.00-117.975), however it does not have any CDI or VOR functions. The IC-A14S does not receive the navigation band frequencies at all.
On Saturday, March 22, 2008 a customer asked:
Q: does it have a head set adapter?-how is it on resisting ignition interference?
A:
A headset adapter is not included with the IC-A14. The OPC-499 headset adapter is an optional accessory.
