Best deal for a good headset
by Eddie Shields from York SC USA

Pros: works well
Cons: internal wires to small as is cords
Review: I used my last softcomm till the micro wires wore out. Why can't the manufactures use better and heavier wire?

Pros: Cheap, no one steals them, carry in a refer baggie, works well with telex equipment, hard to break, clean up nice.
Cons: Forgot them one time?
Review: I have used softcomm for 25 years, no issues, started with one, finished with one. No need to spend a fortune, and then have black crap fall into your ears. Soft comm product stays together, and little speaker covers don't rot into your earcups like some I have had. A touch of super glue will keep a mike screw tight. I found. Still have one, but retired years ago.

Good Starter Headset
by Edmund from Jacksonville FL USA

Pros: Cost, function
Review: Performs as advertised. It is a little big for smaller heads (my wife had to add some padding). Sound quality is acceptable and no frills. Recommend for those getting started or are on a budget.

Good product for beginning Pilot
by A Customer from Minnesota USA

Pros: Price
Cons: touchy mic. boom, volume knob can get in the way, audio cutting in and out
Review: This product is by no means fancy or sophisticated, but it gets the job done, and for a quite reasonable price for that matter. I am a student pilot at the University Of North Dakota and this product has been a great starter headset.

There are negatives though. The headset has a tendency to cut out. It has never cut out on me when I was contacting tower, or during any other vital communications, only when I was talking with my instructor in the cabin.
The microphone boom also seems to find a way to loosen itself. It doesn't happen very freuquently, but every few weeks you will have to tighten the boom.
Finally, the volume knob is easy to bump and turn down. Being that I'm rather tall, I scrape my head against the cabin ceiling and this constantly rotates the volume knob, turning the volume down.

It is a great value and it's relatively high quality considering what you pay for it, though.

by A Customer from tulsa, OK

Perfect price, great headset
by Mike from Arlington, WA

Pros: Quality for little price
Cons: need to tighten the boom mic on ocassion
Review: I've used Telex,Plantronics, & David Clark. This one compares to all of them, excellent quality for the price, only need to tighten the boom mic once in a while. Bought one to try, then added three more for the cabin. Never a complaint from passengers. Recommend highly.

A headset for beginners
by Tan Tan the Airplane Man from Holdrege NE USA

Pros: Cheap, good for beginning pilots/pax, sound clarity
Cons: mic boom doesn't adjust well, overall quality is less than average
Review: I bought this headset for passengers I take along with me when I fly, but I would never use it for myself. The mic boom is horrible and hardly adjusts at all and unless you have an average to large sized head it doesn't fit very well. It was cheap and with headsets you usually get what you pay for.

Review: The foam earpieces are hard. And the mic boom does not adjust very much at all. You get what you pay for and that's not very much. If you want a backup or for a passenger then it's ok, but I would never wear this headset myself.

Good classic headset and a low price
by Bob from Texas

Pros: Inexpensive, reversable, good audio mike and speaker., made in USA
Cons: Not a flex boom, Boom screws must be tightened with screwdriver.
Review: When I started flying again after 25 years, I was not sure I would stick with it so I bought the cheapest headset I could find. After 15 hours of dual, I was so pleased with this headset that I bought a second one for passenger use. This seems like a copy of the older style David Clark. I would like flex boom but really like the reversible feature. At first I though that the volume control seemed backwards but that depends on what side of the head you place the cord. Keep a screwdriver in your flight bag so you can make make adjustments.

Good for the price
by Frank from Mount Sinai NY USA

Pros: inexpensive yet functional
Cons: none so far
Review: Works a lot better than I expected. I bought this for passengers, but I decided to use it myself. They're fairly comfortable although I don't do long flights. They have a separate volume control which is nice and I don't have the low mic volume I had with my other headsets.

Perfect for the beginner
by Richard from Enfield CT USA

Pros: Clear, comfortable and great price point
Cons: None at this time
Review: I purchased this headset for my 17 year old son's Birthday, who is days away from getting his Private Pilots license and although I have not personally used it he has told me it does a great job, he can hear very clearly over the engine and it's much more comfortable than the one the instructor was letting him use.

Headset is fair value.
by A Customer from Cheyenne WY USA

Pros: Head set is a good value and is very servicable.
Cons: If you are out to impress anyone over money spent this in not for you.
Review: The headset is OK for the money spent. It does the job. The mike is quite in fairly loud background noise. Headset hearing protection is average. The head set is not uncomfortable wearing (longest time for me 3 hours)

Good deal!!!
by james from Winston Salem NC USA

Pros: Fit ,weight , noise cancellation and price
Cons: none
Review: We just got back from a four hour round trip in my Aeronca Chief using these headsets. Using these headsets made life nice, didn't have negative issues whatsoever with these.I've used Telex and hated the fit and David Clarks were too heavy, but these are nice! Noise cancellation is very good and I have no issues with the weight or fittment. I highly recommend these for the price and quality.

A good economical headset
by David from Youngsville NC USA

Pros: sound deadening, light weight, comfortable
Cons: maybe a fit issue
Review: Good sound deadening & good volume control. Not having tried any of the high end headsets, it's impossible to make any comparisons but if you're on a budget this one will do the trick. I did notice that if you have a "small" head, the headset may not adjust small enough to fit properly over the ears. I had to use the shortest setting possible.

by David from Blackwell OK USA
Pros: Works well, priced OK
Cons: Needs cloth ear covers
Review: I learned to fly in the early 70s headsets were not all the rage. I have used noise reduction ear plugs and hand mic for most of my flying. Recently I decided to give headsets another try. The Soft Com C-40 was priced reasonable so I am giving it a try. So far they work well on both hearing on my end and others say my transmissions are loud and clear on their end. As summer is warming up I will no doubt try a set of cloth ear seal covers.

Not bad!
by Robert from Wadsworth OH USA

Pros: Good sound. good comfort due to the generous padding.
Cons: Microphone could be better.
Review: Bought this headset for my wife. She is fairly particular about comfort, especially concerning her head. She is prone to headaches. This is a nice entry level headset for our use. The sound is crisp and clear. The microphone is probably not the best, but it sounds OK through the intercom. We had to play with the squelch to get the mic to activate with her voice level. She is pleased with the comfort. It has generous padding on the headband as well as the ear cups. She can wear it for several hours at a time with no complaints. Not bad for the modest cost. I would recommend it for a second headset, one for the wife, or for a guest.

Review: This is my first headset, I am a student pilot and didn't want to keep using the schools community headsets, so I purchased this one based on the reviews I read from this site and also because of the price. It works very well but sometimes when the mic is in the way of the cabin air vent I get that hissing sound transmitted on my headset. Other than that I like this headset quite a bit.

Review: I am a student flyer, my instructor told me that I would need head phones so after shopping I decided to go with these. What a great choice.  Very comfortable, fit great. I can also hear everything loud and clear. If you're looking for a great head set then I highly reccomend these.  Great bang for the buck.

OK for the price
by Ethan from San Antonio TX USA

Pros: Low Cost
Cons: Cheap feel, Cheap components
Review: I bought this headset as a cheap spare or passenger headset. My primary headset, which I love, is a David Clark H10-13.4. The SoftComm Pro-Am is by no means a David Clark. The components and overall feel of this headset are cheap and the plugs make loose connections in the aircraft's intercom. Having said that, after spending a few minutes of each pre-flight messing with the connection so that my passenger can hear, the microphone is good, as is the clarity of the speakers. If you need a cheap passenger headset, this will work. Do not purchase this as your primary headset.

Excellent for the price!
by Eric from Clearwater, Florida

Pros: A lot of value and solid performance for a very reasonable price
Cons: None I've found so far
Review: I own a great pair of LightSpeed 30XLc 's, I bought this SoftComm C-40 as a second set for passengers and/or backup. I'm extremely impressed at how well they work! Relative to their <$100 price, these are good quality with surprisingly good performance. The passive attenuation is as good as any passive David Clark out there. The headband is a nice snug fit without the pressure. Nicely padded top band. Microphone is noise-canceling and quite crisp. These make an excellent first-time set or extra set for passengers. I feel as though I got more than my money's worth.

You get what you pay for.
by Karol from Fox Lake IL USA

Pros: Cheap!!!!, excelent nose reduction.
Cons: quite speakers.
Review: I was looking for a cheap headset to give to passengers like my sister to use, instead of barrowing one from my flight instructor. I’m a new private pilot and a whole lot of people want to fly with me. That’s exactly what I got with this product I wouldn’t use it myself as a main headset but it firs this purpose well. My passengers complain that it’s too quite; they have a hard time hiring me even with the volume turned up all the way.

Excellent headset!
by KertDawg from North Carolina

Pros: Excellent comfort, excellent audio, excellent microphone.
Cons: Mike boom might wear with abuse.
Review: I won't mention how inexpensive this headset is. Compared to more expensive headsets, it's still a good set. It fits well and stays comfortable for hours. The mike boom is not the most durable, but it certainly does the job. The audio quality is great, and the microphone works very well.
