A set of five compact discs with 11 lectures to prepare you for the Private
Pilot Airplane knowledge test. They were designed to be used in
conjunction with the Gleim
test prep software
and written exam
books.
The audio lectures can be studied while you are in your car, mowing your lawn,
exercising, etc. They allow you to concentrate on the lectures so you can
visualize the concepts.
Most people can carefully listen to one of these audio lectures and then
confidently and correctly answer virtually all of the FAA questions in that
chapter. With the CD's you can prepare for and take the FAA knowledge test
in less than 20 hours total time. Each chapter should take about 1.5
hours: 30-40 minutes of audio lecture and one hour studying and answering
questions in the book or software.

Some good informaiton

Pros: Audio format good for listening while driving for review.
Cons: Not complete, poor quality production.
Review: I recieved Gleim's Private Pilot Audio Course (CD) in hope of listening to it while driving the many miles I do each week. It was informative, but there were MANY places that the narration stopped in mid sentence leaving the information with SEVERAL blanks to be filled from other sources. Overall, I was able to learn some from the CD's, but this is not a product I would recommend to someone else. Since the purchase of this series, I did find others which were MUCH MORE BENEFICIAL. This might be more beneficial as part of the Gleim package, not as a stand-alone product.

Very Helpfull

Cons: Reference to visual materials is not very helpfull
Review: This is great for me since I have a 40 minute drive to / from work each day. As you might expecte it falls short when describing the use of various types of graphs especially performance charts.

Good resource for those who drive but...

Review: It is a good resource for those who drive to and from work like myself but there are several chapters where you actually need to refer to written material. The CD set does not come with any written material. It encourages you to buy
Gleim pilot training books and refers to items in the books at several places throughout the lecture series. For those chapters where you absolutely have to look at tables or graphs, listening to the CDs while driving or doing any other activity except looking at those graphs/tables is not going to teach you much. But other than that, i think it is a valuable learning tool.

Q: Have these CDs been updated for 2008 and if not will they be? Are you shipping 2007 or 2008 version? The one customer review for this item indicates that it sometimes references written material, which you have linked to the 2008 Private Pilot Exam Guide. However, you also responded to a question regarding instrument prep. software that the software package was updated for 2008 but that you are currently shipping the 2007 version. If these CDs are similar in that respect and reference the Exam Guide but the guide is 2008 and the audio CD package is 2007 there may well be some compatibility issues and inability to follow along with the charts, etc. referenced by the narrator.

Gleim updated the Audio CD Course for the 2008 edition, but they do not update every year. Currently the audio review is 100% up-to-date, but they may not update next year unless the FAA has some major changes in the material. All of the Gleim study software and books are updated every year - usually around the end of July or first of August. We have been shipping the 2008 materials since August 2007.
