Sport It With Style, Confidence
D2 pilot watch is designed to be as sophisticated in style as it is in function. It’s the first pilot watch built to aid aviators in flight, combining stylish design with a high-sensitivity WAAS GPS receiver, altimeter with adjustable baro setting, and 3-axis compass that puts a wealth of information right on your wrist. Its domed lens makes the screen easy to read even in direct sunlight while a brilliant orange backlight illuminates the display during night operations.

Fly Direct-to or Nearest When You Need It
D2 features a worldwide airport database that enables our signature Direct-to and Nearest routing so you can fly straight to the airport/waypoint of your choice or find the nearest airport if you need to land quickly. Simply press and hold the dedicated buttons on the side of the watch to quickly access these features. D2 allows you to view your route on a moving map display, or follow the HSI to your destination. By setting user-defined waypoints, you can also easily navigate to any location not included in the database. You can even create Mark on Target waypoints so you can easily reference locations you fly over.

Quickly Access the Data You Desire
Easily customize the displays on the pilot watch to quickly access the data that’s most important to you. Access your current GPS ground speed, GPS track, distance from waypoints/airports, estimated time enroute, bearing, glide ratio and much more.

Set Timers and Vibrating Alerts
D2 goes beyond merely telling you local time by also showing you Zulu/UTC time along with up to 4 different time zones of your choosing. Enable the stopwatch when you land to keep tabs on your “time off,” and set timers with vibrating alerts to remind you of important tasks like switching fuel tanks.

Receive Flight Plans from Garmin Pilot
Conveniently build flight plans and create waypoints within the Garmin Pilot app on your compatible Bluetooth (BLE) device and easily upload them to D2. With only a few button presses, you’ll be able to navigate from waypoint-to-waypoint all the way to your destination.

Control Garmin VIRB Action Cameras
The VIRB action camera can capture your flights in stunning HD quality. Mount one around your aircraft, then use D2 to wirelessly start and stop recording, view elapsed time, or tell it when to capture still shots. D2 can even control multiple VIRB Elite cameras at the same time, so you can capture the action from multiple angles.

Ying & Yang
by Charles from Farmingdale NJ USA

Pros: Does what it supposed to do.
Cons: Poorly written instruction manual
Review: Had an initial bad experience with the unit in that it came with the wrong power cord. Garmin jumped on it but the replacement took 5 days to be delivered and was also the wrong unit. After another 5 days of waiting, I hit pay dirt on the 3rd attempt and finally was able to power it up.

The Instructions are very poorly written and I found that it was easier to simply poke and prod the various buttons taking notes as I went along.

However, once I started to actually use the D2, it was found to exceed my expectations. Am glad to now have it!

Neat concept good last resort back up
by Austin from North Bay ON Canada

Pros: Overal a well rounded BACK UP!!! Gps
Cons: Lacks Detail in map and in features
Review: I'm a helicopter pilot we use gps all day long in and out of bush camps. I bought this as a simple back up gps and that is what it is a simple back up.
Uploading coordinates isn't the easiest on the fly but it does work. Satilite acquisition is fairly smooth. I like the simple user interface. Big time clock is nice. The moving map could use more features like track up not just north up bit more map detail would be nice like the icon of a airport when you're not flying to it possible a control zone rings bigger lakes on the map. This watch is a amazing concept if I'm in a jam I will use it it does get you A to Z and every letter in between provided you have entered the coordinates prior to the flight. If I had to I would buy it again it does work though I feels for flight I believe it would be hard to follow staring at your wrist whilst trying to fly. I would have perfered a different band over leather or rubber but I'm sure the reasoning behind that decision was due to the internal compass.
Overall a fun neat gift idea for any techi pilot who likes gadgets

The Only watch for aviators
by Thomas from TROMSO TROMS Norway

Pros: Sturdy, practical, not too heavy
Cons: Rechargable battery solution
Review: Haven't tried the external temperature add on yet, to calculate density altitude, but all the other bells and whizzles are spot on. Love the "nearest" function, good safety backup. The watch is gorgous to look at, and even tho it has a few silly pre-set up functions like "kajaking" or "bicycling" themes, it keeps tidy and easy to use overall. The only watch for me.

Well Thought Out Garmin!
by Raymo from Australia

Pros: Easy to use, simple functionality, well thought out
Cons: I look forward to the thinner version
Review: The D2 has exceeded my expectations. I was happy enough to have a watch that remained perfectly in sync with UTC and displayed both local time and UTC digitally together. The fact that the D2 adjusts the main time display to show the local time wherever I land is a big bonus. The functionality is easy to work out even without the instructions. I fly a non GPS equipped turboprop and found the DTG information particularly useful for descent point calcs. Much less mental math. This watch has been well thought out. Well done on the leather band, its the best type for pilots and those 'in the know' realise its the safest kind. Also well done on the night vision preserving amber backlight.

A Great Concept, but lacking
by 86Z from N. LA

Pros: Tons of features
Cons: Can't see it that great in daylight conditions. May isn't great.
Review: This is a great concept watch and for the most part, all features are covered. The major drawback to this watch is the daytime display. It is absolutely horrible. I am surprised it is not mentioned more in the reviews. Night time is great, but I am a day flyer. The map isn't great either. Other than those items, it works like a champ.

Review: The best watch I ever had, unbelievable... it must be an excellent processor has been installed into tiny space, compare to my old garmin 3 pilot those days take almost five minutes to locate NEW satellites signal if travelling more than 500 nm in OFF mode , but yesterday I flew from singapore to maldives 1925 nm, I had my last position WSSS then I switched off, once on ground Male VRMM, it takes only 1 minute to located the new position! I will place order more for my pilot colleagues.

The D--2 Pilot watch is by far once on the greatest technological devices ever created.
by Glenn from Austin TX USA

Pros: Best thing since sliced bread
Cons: None
Review: The D-2 pilot watch can do just about everything the instruct nets on the plane can do. It is a great quick reference guide and a great backup system in the event the plane's instruments have a failure.

Great tool for anticipating a total engine failure
by Ben from Aptos CA USA

Pros: nearest airport great tool. Altitude warning might use.
Cons: won't use for naviagation unless I need it;
Review: Imagine you have an emergency! You already know where you are going in that event, correct? You will rmember aviate, naviagate, communicate. Time is of the essence. Since I have purchaed the D-2 I always leave it on Nearest Airport so I always know just by a glance at the watch the bearing and distance for me to get to their. I know I have the software in my ipad, but I have to hit a few buttons to find it and if it's tubrbulent, then you've lost time. So the drill is aviate (best glide speed) and navigate (bearing to nearest airport) almost simulaneously, and then commuicate with ATC. You save precious time and altitude immediately.

Back up system.
by Veronica from Little Elm TX USA

Pros: Lots
Cons: Zulu time display could be bigger. Day time display takes a bit to get adjusted right
Review: Great backup system. I uploaded my waypoints from the garmin app! Baro alt is great . Full instrument suit . Main instrument failures happen . I recommend this and the sp 400 . To round out your back up system. Failures DO happen...oh and get the Bluetooth temp sensor to get correct density alt...

Friggin awesome!!! Lost no more am I.
by Van from Madison MS USA

Pros: It's a GPS watch, common, what else do you need?
Cons: It made me forget how to use my E6B
Review: I first wore this watch on my checkride and refuse to fly without it now. You are never unsure of your course and it really helps for distances to an airport to help you know when to call up controllers. It it makes navigation so much easier so you can enjoy flying and not worry about following your flight plane every second for fear of getting lost. It is a must have for non GPS equipped aircraft.
The nay sayers complaining that it is to big, well, it's a damned GPS, it's gonna have some size to it, besides big watches are in right now!
Others complain that it doesn't do anything that their aircrafts GPS pannel doesn't do; well duh! It's a wrist watch and it doesn't cost $10,000!
I keep my vintage wittnauer in my flight bag to walk thru the terminal but it's the D2 I'm wearing in the cockpit.

more fun and cheaper the competing pilot watches
by kais0032 from Minneapolis MN USA

Pros: accurate location from quickly accessible D2 and NRST buttons.
Cons: loses gps signal quickly when inside.
Review: This watch has so many features beyond the aviation functions. For the price its hard to find a more functional toy/ fashion accessory / tool. In the air it makes a great quick refernce for your location relative to any airport.

A must have for any Pilot, beginner or veteran
by George from Texas

Pros: A mobile FMS in tandem with Garmin Pilot
Cons: Lacks certain functionality by itself.
Review: Sell your Breitling. Seriously.

I got the D2 as a gift and I literally can't believe all the functionality it has.

Let's start with the design. Pretty simple, it is quite tall on the wrist, but not too bulky, it's what I expect for a watch that can do all it can do. The black leather strap is comfortable, and it is easy to read the watch in low light or bright light.

On to the features, I found the GPS antenna was sufficient and didn't take too long to get a fix.

Right off the bat I was impressed with the Altimeter functions, you can use the Barometric altimeter based off a local altimeter setting or you can use the GPS altimeter function if you are flying in a pressurized airframe.

By itself the D2 is a bit limited however. You can go direct to airports in the database, but it does not include waypoints on an IFR low chart for instance.

To really get the full functionality out of the D2, you'll need to take advantage of the free 6 month trial of Garmin Pilot for Android or iPad that comes with the watch.

There you can load entire flight plans, go direct to waypoints, etc. The HSI/CDI functionality is accurate to the foot in cross track error. Really impressive.

The Garmin Pilot/D2 combo will turn your watch into a portable FMS.

Battery life is great. I shot a multiple leg cross country from Texas to California and it went down to about 50% in full use. It will reach full charge very quickly, so if you need to stop at an FBO for gas, you could literally get a full charge while you wait for fuel.

Just Ok
by David from McAllen TX USA

Pros: Looks nice, battery lasts long on non navigation mode.
Cons: Non essential for flying but Z time. Does not communicate with any other garmin bluetooth device like area 796.
Review: Overall the watch is nice and works fine. It is by no means a replacement for your GPS.

Pros

Looks nice, good weight
Has a built in data base
Works for other sports (not great though)
Works with gamin connect

Cons
Does not communicate with any other GPS with bluetooth besides garmin pilot
Maps are awful
Garmin explorer does not have maps for D2 so hiking with good maps with D2 is out of the question
Satellites take long to adjust
Basically you are buying a Garmin Fenix. So save some bucks buy the fenix and upload the latest update and you are good to go.
It is not easy to use. Ive had it for 1.5 months and still havent managed to work it well. However, if you need a digital watch Id much rather have this than a G-shock or another. It is as of today my everyday watch.

Nice Product
by Jeff from Wooster OH USA

Pros: Nice little backup.
Cons: A little small but knew that going in. What do you expect from a watch size GPS that will do all this
Review: Takes a little time and usage to get on to it. Not quite as straight forward as other Garmin products, but still same basic logic. I still haven't used it enough to get used to it. This was a Christmas gift so I still haven't used it much yet to give a good review. I am amazed at all it does for its size.

Pros: good large display for time
Cons: Not Yet
Review: Love the D2, got it for my boy friends 50Th birthday (present), meets all expectation the only problem is the software, since the unit was not available in Australia at the time, the free software was not yet available to the Aussie's.  Since i have only had it for a short while see how it works long term.

Not what I expected
by A Customer from Tyngsboro MA USA

Pros: Looks awesome (maybe a bit clunky though)
Cons: Too fiddly. In order to find what you need in a hurry while flying (using stick not yoke), it is virutally unuseable.
Review: What a terrific idea! Garmin has always done a good job with their GPS products, and I was thinking the D2 was going to be another winner. It's not functionally as expected for flying. It is cool that you can upload a flight plan from Garmin Pilot, and you can set alarms for various things, but from a fuctional standpoint (other than for emergency direct to capabilities) I think the watch is over-hyped and over-rated. I don't feel it is worth $400+ bucks. If you have nothing else to spend your money on, and always need the latest gadget....then this is the one. Otherwise, save your money and wait a year until this watch is perfected. Just my opinion of course.

Love it
by Tom from Payson UT USA

Pros: Very easy to use
Cons: Battery
Review: I really like this watch I am a student pilot and have used it on all three of my cross country's with my instuctor. (He was very jealous) I plan on useing it on my solo cross country's comming up soon. I have even used it on a eight hour road trip fun to put in nerest airport then look for the beakens as you pass the airports. I really like the nearest airport feature kind of gives you a little more peace of mind if the onbourd GPS fails for some reason. It's very easy to put a flight plan into it useing airport identifiers. I don't think the battery last as long as they said it would in GPS mode but it last long enough to get you there and back. Thank you so much for getting me into the world of GPS watches look forword to many years of service from this watch.

by Lynn from Abilene TX USA

Pros: Easy to use and accurate
Cons: Takes a little while to get used to the different options but worked out great.
Review: Easy user interface, clear screen, accurate WAAS GPS.
I turned the iPad off and just used the D2 for navigation on a 330 mile cross country. Worked perfectly! Instrument screen on the D2 lined up with aircraft instrumentation well.

Go for it, D2 is for PPL
by Deryck from Cockburn Central WA Australia

Pros: vibrate function is good for noisey cabin
Cons: need to be able to rotate the whole watch so it can face the front
Review: The Garmin D2 is very fast and accurate. When I check it against cabin dials it is smack on.
I really like the nearest airport option as well. I have managed to put in a few farm strips as well along routes which the world maps wouldn't know about.
The most used function if I'm doing manual maps is the 30 minute vibrate timer for fuel. I know I should check with clear offs but it is awesome for the exact timing.
Fully recommend it if you can get one as there is a long backlog.

I have no regrets!
by Todd Greiner from Marion IL USA

Pros: Just read my review
Cons: Doesn't pair with the IPAD 1 OR 2
Review:

I normally dont write reviews, but in this case, I must. I have been a Garmin fan for years and they have done an outstanding job once again! I have used the D2 for numerous flights and find that it works great! I read all I could before purchasing this watch and of course it is so new there wasnt much out there to read except commercial reviews. I also read some negative thoughts by those who did not purchase the watch but in their opinion thought it was not going to be that great. Well it just proves again that until you try something dont knock it. I am a full time CFII and fly six days a week with few exceptions. This navigator is fantastic to have right on your wrist with no hassle. It not only does what is advertised but once you purchase this you find out how much more it will do!

It only comes with airport waypoints but that is not a problem, any other waypoints you want can be easily loaded and easily recalled for use. The altimeter is just like in your airplane, just set the altimeter setting and the altitude is right on. If you have set a go to on the watch the small tick marks will point to that waypoint regardless of what page you are on. If you dont have a Go To then the tick marks will always point to the nearest airport regardless of what page you are on. Speaking of the pages, they are easily customized for what you want. It doesnt matter which direction your wrist is positioned, the top of the watch has a red tick mark and that is referenced to the direction you are going so you dont have to position your wrist to read it properly thats neat! You can select between baro altitude and GPS altitude.

Ok, what don't I like? Its really not a big deal to me but you should know that this will not pair with Garmin Pilot if you have the IPAD 1 or 2, you have to have the IPAD 3+. They should have informed buyers about that, but I really did not plan to use this with the Garmin Pilot anyway it works great as a standalone navigator. Not only is this an aviator watch but it can also be used for cycling, hiking, fishing and even geocaching! I easily give this device 5 stars!

Smart buy for Anyone
by Mike, Helicopter EMS captain from Logan,WV

Pros: Ease of use, ability to page back if needed
Cons: Battery could/should hold charge longer.
Review: I like the ability to shut it down to conserve power. For the most part the D2 locates satellites very quickly, even in doors. I use it with my Garmin VIRB Elite camera, which is great for the hands free function. I like programming the flight plan function before taking off to give me an idea of flight time en route.

Great device but
by Erich from Waxhaw NC USA

Pros: Small package and very fuctional
Cons: can only share flight plans with Bluetooth 4.0
Review: Love the watch it it does work as advertised. But what wasn't clear is the syncing from the Garmin Pilot App to the watch.  After some extensive research it turns out it only works over Bluetooth 4.0 which is ok if you recently bought a tablet but most of them out have 3.0. Additionally the Garmin sync plugin for your pc does not work with IE 11 though they say they are working on it. And finally when you download the owners manual the steps and instructions are not exact hopefully they update that. As for the functionally it is awesome pretty accurate I love the nearest functions. It also does all the other functions of other Garmin watches. ie heart rate monitor, camera...ect. Also would be great to have an app for windows 8

A convenient accessory for engine failures
by Eric Marsh from Lockhart, Texas

Pros: It's a convenient way to check to see if one is on course. Lots of useful features.
Cons: There's not a good free computer interface for it.
Review: I received a Garmin D2 for Christmas and decided to try it out a couple days ago. I programmed it with a flight plan using my computer and off I went. It has a very simple interface but provides an easy way to check things like one's heading, distance to waypoint, time to destination and so forth.

I downloaded the Garmin Pilot app onto my iPad but the D2 didn't want to communicate with it. I used Garmin's free computer app but it's really primitive.

As it turns out, about 45 miles from home my engine broke a valve spring. It's pitch changed and it lost some power. After going through procedures to try to get the engine back my next question was where to land. I remembered that the D2 has a "closest airport" feature so with one button press I had a heading and a distance.

Once I was on track I opened my iPad, got the airport information, made my radio calls and so forth and made a nice deadstick landing.

True story.

All in all I'm pleased with the D2 and it will use it on every flight. But Garmin really does need to provide a better computer interface for it.

buy a ipad instead
by ANDREW from Chicago IL USA

Pros: none come to mind
Cons: not practicle, looks like a home monitoring bracelet
Review: This is a nice idea. But really when will you stare at a watch to navigate? This weekend i will pack it up and return it. Id rather have a ipad with garmin pilot app or foreflight. Impulse buy at its best.

The first non confusing GPS watch ever
by Ehud from Tucson AZ USA

Pros: Easy to use, full-function GPS and altimeter, easy on the eyes
Cons: Needs charging when not in use. Not an everyday watch.
Review: Hi. I'm reviewing this product because MyPilotStore.Com sent me a request to review my recent purchase, and they are good people. Garmin made this product, as well as every other aviation GPS I've ever used and they also are good people. I hope after reading this review you're more convinced than ever THIS IS THE ULTIMATE PILOT STOCKING STUFFER EVER!!! (also Happy New year to you!)

Why listen to me? I'm a 400-hour helicopter pilot with experience with the Garmin GPS 150XL, 250, 420, 430, and 530. The things I love about the 4xx/5xx is the "three clicks to the right" NEAREST-screen. Yes, that means at CTAF airports even when I have my destination Direct-To dialed in, I can still call up NEAREST and know my distance for the radio calls.

That same functionality is ONE BUTTON away on the D2. It's the NRST button and if you press it for two seconds then WHAM, there's a list of nearest airports and distances. You can use the up and down arrows to scroll. You can even select it for Direct-To routing if you like.

I also like the big units where I can just hit Direct-To, dial up the station call letters, and bang [enter enter] I'm headed there with a bearing, direct track, distance, and CDI. The D2 has the same functionality! Hit the "Direct To" button, then use the up/down buttons and enter in the station call letters... then you're Direct-To that station. Various screens show you bearing, track, distance, ETA, and there's a CDI screen as well.

Wow that was easy. IF IT ONLY DID THAT it would be an awesome watch, backup GPS, stocking stuffer, or thing to light up any pilot's eyes. Here's what else it has:

1. Altimeter. You can use the built in barometer or the GPS to indicate your MSL altitude.
2. Barometer. If you're flying VFR somewhere without an AWOS/ASOS just look at your watch and set your Kollsman meter to it and now your aircraft altimeter is accurate.
3. Thermometer. This is less useful as it can be affected by heat from your hand, so if you're wearing it on bare skin the manual recommends you let it sit for up to 30 minutes to adjust. Just pretend it doesn't have a thermometer and disregard point 3 ;)
4. Multi-mode stopwatch / countdown timer etc. I've yet to use this functionality since the aircraft I fly has one on the console... and I don't need more than one stopwatch at a time. Still, it's useful to know it's there.
5. Set WARNINGS. It can be told to warn you when you reach a certain altitude, or a certain waypoint, or a certain distance, or a certain time.
6. COMPLETELY FUNCTIONAL and NOT COMPLICATED. That's right. Four buttons 90 degrees apart and one "action" button is all you need. One of those buttons is a "back" button so if you end up where you didn't want to go, click "back" and you're home free.

Is this the BE-ALL END-ALL PILOT WATCH? Will those Breitling and others go out of business now? Of course not. Those watches are for "poser pilots" to don on their wrist next to some manly cologne and go to bars near airports and pick up lonely women who love pilots. THIS WATCH IS A MAN'S MAN'S PILOT WATCH. It won't pick up women for you like fake epaulettes on a starched polyester shirt with a $5 tie. It WILL guide you to your destination, show you details about your trip, and be useful to you.

It charges via a USB cable. A charger is included, and many electrical outlet ("mains") adapters are in the box. I happen to use the North American US one but noticed the JP and UK and EU ones in the box.

It talks to your computer via USB Mass Storage Protocol (for the non computer people, that means it shows up like a disk drive). You can download stuff to it.

I'm told by the manual that one can download entire flight plans of GPS waypoints and routing. I've yet to experience this because the software is only for Windows and Mac and my systems are all Linux. So I can't speak as to whether or how well that stuff works.

Did I mention THIS WATCH WILL NOT PICK UP CHICKS AT BARS for you, but it will ROUTE YOU TO YOUR DESTINATION WITH LOTS OF USEFUL INFORMATION AT YOUR LITERAL FINGERTIPS!

Very very cool
by Rob from East Peoria IL USA

Pros: Customizable. Accurate. Versatile.
Review: I didn't need this but I wanted it. Received as a Christmas gift and glad I have it. Used on my IFR XC today and it was fun. Imagine an electrical, dg, altimeter, etc failure in IMC and you can see where this could be a life saver. Not to mention it's just plane fun!

Absolutely A Great Watch
by Ground Loop Larry from In the ditch next to the runway

Pros: Highly accurate GPS, flight instruments page, easy to use with Garmin Pilot
Cons: A little large, leather strap is a little misfitting for this type of watch
Review: I just received the Garmin D2 today from mypilot store.com. I must say this is truly a fabulous device. I have a chance to test it's functionality and accuracy, and I have nothing negative to say about it. It is extremely accurate, and the GPS locks in my position even indoors. The temp sensor is a little inaccurate when the watch is worn in the wrist, thus making the density altitude reading relatively high. I also had a chance to sync the watch with the Garmin Pilot app and it was so easy to load a flight plan from the iPad to the watch. You can load a flight via always and the D2 recognizes all navaids and intersections, and calculates ETEs and ETAs the entire flight to all waypoints. However, the D2 will not recognize a navaid of intersection by navigating from the watch's database. The database in the watch only recognizes airports only. Everything about this watch is a great addition to the cockpit and a great resource for S.A.

A: The actual battery life depends on how much you use GPS, device sensors, wireless sensors, and the backlight. All of these can be turned on/off depending on usage.  In normal GPS mode, the battery will last about 16 hours between charges.  In UltraTrac GPS mode, the battery will last about 50 hours, and in regular watch mode the battery will last up to 5 weeks without charging.  It has an internal 500 mAh lithium-ion battery that is not user replaceable.
