A little difficult to operate during flight

  • By Jack from Bethany OK USA on Tuesday, November 22, 2016
  • Pros: Nice moving map
  • Review: I like the unit just fine. However, it took a little time learning to operate the it. Also, the keys are somewhat to small to operate during flight.I keep hitting the incorrect ones.  It is a very good GPS for VRF flying.

Good product but no operators manual or instructions?

  • By Steven from Hamilton MT USA on Saturday, October 08, 2016
  • Pros: The iFLY 520 works as advertised, easy to use in flight with touch screen operation, has no problem with satellite reception from my knee board
  • Review: The iFLY 520 works as advertised, easy to use in flight with touch screen operation, has no problem with satellite reception from my knee board. my only complaint is that it arrived with NO operating instructions or "Quick start" instructions as noted as being included on the box? I called iFLY customer service and the representative was very courteous and helpful. He stated there should have been "Quick Start" instructions included in the product box and added iFLY does not include an operators manual with the product because there are too many pages? He stated he would send me the "Quick Start" instructions and a complete printed manual which I have never received (its been over a month?)

Very Good Product

  • By David from Reidsville NC USA on Tuesday, May 12, 2015
  • Pros: Ease of Use
  • Review: Excellent GPS for the money. Does all and more that my old Garmin did. Very simple to use, you don't really need a manual if you just sit down with the unit for awhile.

Not sure what pilot designed this

  • By A Customer from Herndon VA USA on Sunday, March 15, 2015
  • Pros: Size, screen
  • Review: While this product's tagline is pilot designed, pilot tested and pilot recommended, I found it difficult to use and read. I am an 800-hour VFR pilot. The screen is good and easy to read in sunlight and it does show you where you are. I also like the feature showing your track in relation to upcoming terrain. However, while using actual sectional charts for background sounds like a good idea, I found it wasn?t. First, if you fly track up (as I do), anytime you are not headed in a generally northerly direction, all the writing is upside down. Also, when you have the view zoomed out enough to have a reasonable area showing, the writing is too small to read, for example, to identify what airport you might be passing nearby. I also found the touch screen is hard to get to read my touch. I comes with a stylus, which helps quite a bit, but that?s not really handy in a cockpit, especially if it's turbulent. I would not recommend this GPS, and if I had figured this out before the deadline for returning it due to lack of good flying weather, I would have sent it back.

  • By james from Pembine WI USA on Wednesday, November 05, 2014
  • Pros: seems to be very good so far
  • Review: still learning how to use it. manual would sure help!

5 QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

  • Previously Asked Questions

  • Friday, September 08, 2017

Q: Does the 520 give altitude?

A: Yes, the 520 will show your altitude.

  • Sunday, September 08, 2013

Q: does the ifly 520 have (or occasionally need)an external gps antenna?

A: The iFly 520 includes a very sensitive internal antenna that will work for most people.  However different aircraft and cockpit locations can have different results; if you are experiencing trouble getting or keeping a GPS lock, this iFLY GPS External Antenna should solve that problem.

  • Thursday, September 05, 2013

Q: I read upon purchase you provide 2 months free subscription, what happens after two nonths? Is the subscription per month or yearly and how much will it set me back?

A: Subscriptions are on a yearly basis. The current prices for updates are either $69/year for the VFR package or $109/year for the IFR/VFR package. Both packages include the entire USA.  You will receive a free two (2) month subscription to both IFR and VFR charts with the purchase of a new unit. The VFR subscription does not include the IFR Low Enroute charts or Approach Plate.

Q: I would like to know the difference in the 520 and 720 other than size. Is power and performance equal?

A: The iFly 520 is going to have the same software, the same sunlight readable display, and the same basic functionality of the iFLY 720.  It's just smaller (5 inch vs. 7 inches).  Also the iFLY 520 has a built in battery that will last 2 hours whereas the iFLY 720 does not have any internal battery. The iFly external battery will also work with the 520.

  • Wednesday, August 14, 2013

Q: I want to know if this GPS has a worldwide aviation database, because I am from Argentina and i would like to know if all the functions will be available in my conuntry. Thanks

A: Sorry, this only supports mapping in the USA.  For Argentina you would need one of the Garmin GPS units.
