The Serengeti Maestrale is part of the PolarMax Sport Collection that incorporates three technologies which control the way light interacts with the lens. These three technologies consist of polarization to minimize surface glare to help reduce eye fatigue, spectral control that filters out specific colors in the light spectrum for the utmost color enhancement and photochromic properties that allow the lens to instantly adapt to changing light conditions.

Temple Length: 132mm
Lens Size: 67 x 40 x 70mm, DBL 14mm

Serengeti Polar PhD lenses deliver clearly superior eyewear for the ultimate journey, featuring the very latest in polarization, photochromic technologies, exclusive hues and high-definition benefits that are near-glass in clarity. Our Polar PhD lens is so revolutionary; it received the coveted international Silmo d'Or award in the lens category for innovation and performance – a first for a sunglass manufacturer.

Serengenti, the number one choice of pilots around the world!

Technology beyond the naked eye
Serengeti lenses achieve such a high level of acuity because we only use the finest materials available. And the process by which Serengeti develops their lenses gives them exceptional color and contrast enhancement.

Serengeti's High Definition Lens
Serengeti's proprietary Spectral Control (TM) lens system provides contrast and color enhancement by selectively filtering certain colors from the visible light spectrum. This allows the most optimal colors through, creating an effect where colors are crisper and images are clearer, making it the ultimate high definition view.

Bright or Shade
Serengeti's exclusive photochromic lenses automatically darken in bright sunlight to give superior definition, while they lighten in overcast or shade conditions for extra contrast. And since the technology is infused directly into the lens, it will never wear off or out.

Block the Blues
Blue light waves cause a phenomenon called "blue blur", which occurs when they scatter off dust and moisture particles in the air and, essentially veil glare. Serengeti lenses block 95% of blue light, virtually eliminating the eye strain and fatigue blue blur can cause.

UV Protection Goes Beyond Standards
The government and commercial bodies have set standards for UV protection in sunglasses. Then there are Serengeti's standards. They're like yours standards. They go beyond the basic level of expectation, eliminating virtually 100% of UVA and UVB rays. The Serengeti lenses also feature an anti-reflective coating on the back side to block additional glare and reflections.

Eliminate the Harsh Glare
Glare is inevitable by-product of light rays bouncing off reflective surfaces. But Serengeti's polarizing film removes glare as an uncomfortable factor in driving, and the eye fatigue it can cause.

One year warranty.

No good if you fly glass

  • By Hugh G. Reaction from Miami on Sunday, June 18, 2017
  • Pros: Stylish
  • Review: Very stylish and light weight. Unfortunately no good in a modern jet cockpit. I fly the 787 and when I wear these I cannot see any HUD symbology and have difficulty seeing the EFIS displays at any kind of an angle. Also the heating elements in the windows are now suddenly visible while wearing these glasses.

I love my sun glasses

  • By michael from Portland OR USA on Thursday, October 13, 2016
  • Pros: everything looks more vivid when wearing these sunglasses
  • Review: It exceeds my expectations...

I forget I have them on.

  • By Christine from Springfield Gardens NY USA on Thursday, March 03, 2016
  • Pros: Very competitively priced, obviously good quality and the wife thinks they are sexy.
  • Review: So light and comfortable it is possible to forget you are wearing these sunglasses. The lenses are distortion free and, for me, just the right shade.

Excellent !

  • By Allen from Katy TX USA on Tuesday, November 10, 2015
  • Pros: Everything is good!
  • Review: I bought a pair a few years back and loved them. Actually, I wore them out, many days being out and around airplanes and they performed wonderfully.

I got a new pair just because the original pair was beat up. And I'm thinking of buying another pair and storing them just in case they stop making them.

Great despite the fog

  • By Suemy from Perth WA Australia on Tuesday, June 17, 2014
  • Pros:
  • Review: Great product, light, comfortable, excellent lenses.

    Perfect for sport

One negative only. Because of the close fit, the lenses fog up when you first put them on.

  • By ONUR from Schaumburg IL USA on Sunday, May 11, 2014
  • Pros:
  • Review: Clear view

Terrific glasses, crappy case

  • By George S. from Sycamore, IL on Friday, May 03, 2013
  • Pros: Stylish, comfortable. I love to wear the Maestrale!
  • Review: I purchased these glasses, and found that they were just the right look and shade for me--not TOO dark--and the right "sporty" look. Unfortunately, for some reason Serengeti has put the Maestrale glasses in a soft-sided, zipper case that doesn't hold up. It fell apart, as the zipper mis-tracked and the case became impossible to use, less than a week after the Maestrale arrived. What were the designers thinking?

I don't fly but if I did, I might even like them more

  • By Michael from Suwanee GA USA on Tuesday, February 19, 2013
  • Pros: No distortion; effective blue blocking; huge field of view; extremely comfortable.
  • Review: I love these sunglasses. Because of the photochromic properties of the sunglasses, I can use them well into twilight. These are also the perfect sunglasses to where in the rain. They negate the light scattering properties of blue light, allowing me to wait until it is really raining before needing to turn on my wipers. These are very comfortable sunglasses. This should also be a caution: make sure you are in a vehicle or in an otherwise normal situation when you wear them. I made the mistake of taking them to the beach. They are so comfortable I forgot I had them on. The Atlantic Ocean ate them. I bought another pair, something unheard of for me. These glasses are great price on this site but make no mistake: 100 bucks is a lot of money for me to spend on sunglasses. Buying the same pair twice is unheard of until now.

beautiful!

  • By Allen from Katy TX USA on Wednesday, March 07, 2012
  • Pros: all good
  • Review: Best pair of sunglasses I've ever owned! Slim design fits well under a headset, no binding, can't feel them even after a long flight. Quality lenses, no distortion and cuts glare!

  • Pros: No distortion; effective blue blocking; huge field of view; extremely comfortable.
  • Cons: So light, they may blow off in a good stiff crosswind. They don't float. Parentheses that's not really a con, but I had to think of something).

Q: What is the difference between satin black and black/orange?

A: The Satin Black Polar PhD Drivers have a satin black frame and the Shiny Black/Orange PhD Drivers have a shiny black frame with an orange color on the inside of the frame.  Both of the lenses are the same, so the only real difference is the frame coloring.
