APR E6-B2WHL Premier Universal Flight Computer

APR’s Pilot Wind Triangle & T/S/D Navigation Computer features the new and exclusive WIND SPEED CURSOR ARM which quickly shows ground speed, wind correction angle, and heading, thereby eliminating two set-ups and the need to mark a dot on the plastic disc.

In addition to color-coded conversion scales printed on the computer, the E6-B2WHL shows fuel consumption solutions, density altitude factors, conversions for true airspeed & altitude, mach number, kilometers, minutes to seconds, statute to nautical to statute miles, off-course and drift corrections, and slide-rule mathematics.

The E6-B2WHL calculates all necessary flight planning and en route navigation requirements. Color-coded sawtooth scales on the wind cursor are user-friendly and allow for quick, accurate reading.
The Time/Speed/Distance computer provides all major navigation computations.

The Double Wind Speed Cursor Arm makes solving wind problems a breeze. Simply set your true course, rotate cursor arm to wind direction, and read your wind correction angle and groundspeed. Instructions for Windspeed Cursor set-up are printed on the computer slide. The low wind speed slide (40 to 270 knots or miles) features instructions to solve for WCA, groundspeed, and headings. The high speed (100 to 820 knots or miles) shows a headwind and crosswind component grid that depicts the relative wind angle in a graphic for accurate and easy interpretation. Nautical and Statute scales for Sectional and WAC Charts are printed on the sides of the slide.

Custom case. Lifetime, anodized aluminum.Dimension: 4 7/8" x 9 5/8".

This flight computer is also available in a smaller "pocket" size of 3 1/4" x 6 3/8" as the APR E6-B4WHL.

Wind side a big improvement
by David from Pahrump NV USA

Pros: Colors help, wind component way easier than the staandard model
Cons: I have found none for this type of device.
Review: As far as mechanical E6B's go this is great. The wind calculation side eliminates the need for marking the device and the information is simply read afterward. I bought an electronic E6B and have used it very little preferring the "whiz wheel" as simpler and easier to use. Highly recommend.

good product, would buy again
by A Customer from Edmonds WA USA

Pros: easy to read and follow for various operations
Cons: Do not like the storage cover as it puts wear on the aluminum trim of the computer
Review: Product itself met my expectations, as I had a similar one when I was first learning to fly. It is easy to handle one handed with good directions to follow.

Great for WCA Calculations
by IVC from Temecula CA USA

Pros: WCA calculation
Cons: None
Review: Solid metal construction, convenient color coding (conversion between same-color marks.)

However, the best part is by far the rotating wind correction angle scale which speeds up the calculation tremendeously - no markings required, so no need to align with wind direction, just select wind direction and slide.

Great piece of "old school" equipment
by A Customer from St. Catharines ON Canada

Pros: Large enough to read by old eyes. The windspeed cursor arm saves time, pencil marks and one hand for the controls.
Cons: The compass rose azimuth wheel seems a little oval - there are two places where the wheel is more than just a little sticky; I'll fix this some day with a screwdriver.
Review: I wanted the best mechanical "whiz wheel" I could afford. After much research online I settled on the APR E6-B2WHL.

I wanted an "old school" E6-B not an electronic one for the simplicity; plus not having to worry about batteries! Since I'm not flying anything much over 250 knots I feel I don't need the high accuracy of an electronic one and experience bears this out - this E6-B hasn't got me lost or out of fuel yet provided I do my part.

The windspeed cursor arm saves those pencil marks and, more importantly, lets you use one hand for all calculations. In fact I've found that, with a little practice and some dexterity, all calculations can be done on the fly with one hand on the controls and the other doing the computing. Even left handed calculations.

I'd recommend this to anyone.

More than I expected
by Bob from St. Catharines ON Canada

Pros: Large enough for old eyes to read
Review: I wanted the best "whiz-wheel" type of flight computer I could afford. After reviewing this product online I'm glad I got it. It took a while for me to learn how to use it and I haven't used all the features yet but it certainly fills the bill for me to this point.

I like that you can, with a lot of practice and a little bit of dexterity, use it with one hand.

The coloured windspeed cursor arm saves that one step of marking the wind direction then turning the window to find drift correction and ground speed. All those pencil marks on the window are gone and, again, you can use one hand for this.

I highly recommend this product for those who either don't want or can't afford an electronic E6-B.

Good but...
by A Customer from Fort Wayne IN USA

Pros: Rugged and well marked
Review: As a older student, this tool seems to live up to the advertised function. First look at this tool, it appears overwhelming. I find the included instructional manual to be somewhat lacking. The pamphlet is sometimes not clear in explaining the object of the exercise. I've also found word omissions and rough grammar. I must say however the section on wind effect calculation explains the theory of wind effect very well. I'll use it while obtaining my certificate and then probably switch to electronic tools.

Well-built and useful-needs more Colour!
by John from Jupiter FL USA

Pros: Wind Arm replaces Pencil
Cons: Markings scratch easily-could use more colour like Student models
Review: Solid metal construction - could use some brighter colouration like the plastic "Student" series. (May even get one of these too).

Wind-arm is the best part. No more pencil-grubbing.

Only issue is the printing on metal tends to scratch easily, otherwise a fine piece of equipment.

Wind Cursor alone makes it worth it
by Bryan from Fort Collins CO USA

Pros: Wind cursor, solid construction
Cons: None
Review: I hated the paper E6-B that came with my ground school kit. It was junk. Looked at flight computers and decided on this one after reading some reviews about the wind cursor. It truly is as easy to use as they claim. Took me about 30 seconds to get the hang of it. Since it has both low speed and high speed wind charts, it is probably the last E6B I will ever need to buy.

No more pencil marks!
by Phil from Fort Wayne IN USA

Pros: Easy to use - nicely color coded.
Cons: If you love the pencil mark, you may not like this one.
Review: Took a little while to get used to the wind correction but once I got used to it - loved it. Very easy to use and no pencil marking and erasing all the time.

If you're new to getting an E6B, try this first before using an older one. You'll be glad you did.

Pretty good stuff
by Michael from Austin TX USA

Pros: Very Functional and Easy to Use
Cons: none
Review: Not needing to make dots on the wind side is an awesome addition. The wind cursor is great, and worth the small extra expense. I like the locking feature too. It is a very good device and was easy to use.

I would buy another
by James Loar from Waynesboro, PA

Pros: Easy to use without the need of something to mark with...
Cons: Needs a beter glue on the wind scale.
Review: I like this unit. Basically another E6B but the wind scale is easy to you in flight. No need for a marking device to make an already clumsy maneuver clumsier... My only issue was the inner ring on the wind scale came unglued. However it was a simple fix with some silicone.. Good as new if not better.

Cons: A little pricey, but worth it.
Review: Simple to use. Instructors really think it is kewl.

Sturdy, easy to use
by Virginia from BOLINGBROOK IL USA

Pros: Sturdy device
Cons: instructions and device layout do not match.

It met my expectations and I like the fact that you can lock the rose. However, the instructions leave a lot to be desired.

1. The insert for the Window Cursor arm shows a different depicted cursor arm on the front cover and also in the next page are not the same as the The windspeed cursor arm is on the 3rd page and on the one the actual instrument. This made the operation of the device very challenging.

2. The print font in the instruction manual are too small.

Once I figured out how to use the additional features, it made calculations a lot easier.

by Greg from Waco TX
Review: The wind cursor arm is way easier than marking dots when trying to calculate winds, especially in flight. Other than that this is pretty much your standard E6B with a slide lock (convenient when you're clumsy like me and tend to knock it around). If you don't need the high-speed scales you may want to go for one of the low-speed only models.
