Saitek X65F Pro Force Sensing Flight System

Saitek X65F Pro Flight System

Rule the skies with the latest Saitek X series controller – the Pro Flight X65F Force Sensing Control System. Custom engineered from high grade metal castings, this is a system that is built to withstand many combat engagements. The number of controls available will cater for any pilot’s needs, but the true innovation resides within the stick itself – Force Sensing technology.

Force Sensing?
For the very first time in manufactured simulation controller, the X65F’s stick does not move; instead, like those found in real modern fighter jets, it responds to pressure that you exert on the handle, resulting in a fast, accurate and realistic response that will make you the ace in your squadron. With no moving parts and a shaft that is made from high grade steel, this provides incredible reliability and longevity.

Saitek X65F Pro Flight System Features

  • Metal construction for the ultimate in realism and durability
  •  Unique force sensing stick – all input is detected from how hard you push on the stick, just like in real modern day jet fighters. This includes a force-sensing twist rudder control
  • Features on-the-fly adjustment of the force settings for the stick – including separate adjustments for each axis of the stick for the ultimate in stick response configuration.
  •  Dual throttle for finer control over twin engine jets, or lock the two throttles together for single engine fighters
  • Stick controls include:
    3 x 8-way hats
    1 x 8-way thumb hat
    1 x trigger
    2 x buttons
    2 x pinkie switches
  •  Throttle controls include:
2 x rotaries (incorporating push button controls)
    1 x mouse hat
    4 x 8-way hats
    1 x 2 way ‘K’ switch
    1 x scroll selector
    1 x 4 position mode switch
  •  Back panel with 5 more control switches, force-sensing strength selection, mode indication and mounting points for Saitek Pro Flight Instrument Panels (sold separately)
  •  A potential total of 608 commands possible without ever moving your hands from the controls!

Connectivity: USB 2.0

Compatible with Windows XP, XP64, Windows Vista (all versions), and Windows 7 (all versions).

Saitek X65
by A Customer from Fresno California

Pros: Connected well, programmable software was easy to understand.
Cons: Mode 4 pulls it off calibration. Different modes useless. Very hard to control in many ways other than just getting used to
Review: I had mine for about 24 to 30 hours and then I boxed it up real nice like I got it and returned it. On forced sensitivity 4 it would go off calibration and it was so sensitive I couldn't function the aircraft without pitching all over the place and over stearing and thus over correcting. Setting 1,2 and 3 were no big deal. I think changing settings is a false feature as it is illogical or not needed. I also had a problem with the stick misunderstanding my Axis from my YAW. I don't really like having the two mix when they shouldn't. Right after I returned it I ordered the Thrustmaster HOTAS Warthog. Lets face it, all the jets we usually fly in the sim world here all still employ sticks that move. The FA18C,E, F15C, SU27,SU33 and MIG29 P51D,...all have the sticks that move. I do still however have my Saitek Fighter Jet Rudder Pedals. They are mostly metal and built well and rudder pedals are a must. I want to get a Cyborg Gaming Keyboard with Tri-Color Backlighting as I still use keyboard commands. I keep my sticks fairly simple.
I haven't even ran the TM Softwear program yet. I just plugged it in and it's twin throttle and stick action alone are worth the price of admission. I fly low and hit the afterburner and then back off on the throttle and hit my rudder pedals and pull the stick reasonably, and it turns real sharp loosing corner speed velocity. So then I hit the throttle hard again and off I go. Very realistic. I then get inverted low about 500 ft off the ground and I barely have to push forward to keep level. With the X65 I would descend and I would have to push the stick hard forward even at high altitudes. I tried to calibrate the X65 but It seems to not calibrate at all. It just is what it is from what I can see in it's program software. Then I would click setting 4 and I could see the stick's center go off calibration. it controlled very squirrely in this #4 mode(unable to fly much with that mode). 2 or 3 was about the same. 1 was less movement. For me this was all useless. If this X65 stick works for you then more power to ya. It didn't for me. Perhaps I'm old school. Just give me my movable stick.

Professional Look and Feel BUT...
by Kent from Wilsall MT USA

Pros: Looks and feels like the real deal
Cons: Very difficult to get used to
Review: The look and feel is the best I've ever seen or felt in a system such as this. Metal construction and well thought out mounting. But, it does take a LOT of getting used to. I find the learning curve to be a serious draw back but that may just be me. Not actually having the stick move, and not having twist control for rudder makes for most difficult flying. I assigned a button under the thumb to rudder but it's less than accurate and not easily flown. I'll keep working on this, though as the overall feel is the best I've ever seen. It doesn't feel or look like a toy and the price certainly takes it to a much higher level.

Pressure vs angle hard to get used to
by James from Peyton CO USA

Pros: Built very well.
Cons: I wish I could convert it to std stick
Review: Does everything it said it would. I just can't get used to "holding pressure required constant" for a precise manuever.

Excellent Product
by A Customer from Los Altos CA USA

Pros: Almost perfect product, very nice construction
Cons: pricey, hat switches can be a weak point for some users.
Review: Unlike some recent Saitek joysticks, there is no deadband problem at all with the X65F. Also, the stiction issue that earlier products had with the thottle has been fixed, so the throttle can now be positioned very precisely and will stay exactly where you set it. To me the thing seems pretty much perfect, with one small exeception: All the hat switches are now 4 position only in terms of how they are mechanically constructed. In some cases they can be used as 8 way switches since the software reports an intermediate virtual switch positon when two physical switches are operated at the same time. A problem can arise because the physical switches don't make and break at exactly the same time, thus resulting in momentary unintentional switch signals occuring. Depending on what you are using the switches for, it may or may not be a problem. I have decided to limit the use to 4-way.
