Essential part of your Bahama's flying kit by Tony from Winter Haven FL USA
Review: This is an excellent guide and a must have for all pilots visiting the Bahamas. I purchased the guide, the ifr and vfr charts , and needed all of them. It would have been nice if the IFR approach plates for nassau and freeport were included, a better airport diagram for nassau and freeport, and a few more notes about night flying and vhf coverage in the bahamas, but I am sure that will come with later updates. Don't leave home without it!

In a changeing area, they keep up with the changes by E. Paul from Alexander City AL USA
Pros: Great guide book with lots of inside information. Cons: Everyone can't like or visit the same places, so there will be places you like which are not described. Review: Not only is this an interesting book to read just for entertainment, but it is essential if you plan to tour the island, especially for the first time. The airport information is accurate, and the photos of the runways help with identification (let's be honest, the navaids in the islands are not that great or reliable). The tips on where to go and what to see are great, making this a volume that would be helpful to any visitor, not just the pilots who are visiting.

I was very disappointed with this book by Bruce from Wheeling WV USA
Pros: Preparation information for flying to the Bahamas is (and has been for decades) well done. Cons: I realize that it would be next to impossible to fly to every airport in the guide every year, but I do not think it is unreasonable to at least make phone calls to airports or advertisers to confirm the information that is going to be printed in each new edition. I have been using the guide off and on for over 25 years and after this passt years poor experience, I pulled out some of my older editions and was shocked to see the EXACT same information listed from decades ago. Navigating pilots and travellers who pay good money for this guide deserve better. Review: I flew around the Bahamas last year (2008-2009) with a 2007 Bahamas & Caribbean Pilot's Guide and saw so many things that were not as depicted in the guide that I figured it was because I had an out of date book. I bought the 2009 Guide thinking it would be updated and boy, was I wrong! Here are some examples where it is not only wrong but could be dangerous for pilots. 1) Cutlass Bay-MYCX airport on Cat Island. The guide shows it as asphalt in good condition (ppB114-115). In reality it has been closed for several years with barrels and barricades on the runway which has large holes in it and 8' trees growing on it. The guide also says a hangar is available for 'Olivia D'Windrift guests'. I walked around the hangar (after landing at New Bight and renting a car) and it is falling down with heavy equipment inside. I talked to people in a beachhouse nearby who said the airport was closed by the government years ago due to drug activity. Amazingly, the description of the 'Olivia D'Windrift' house for rent (ppB107) describes guests being met at the airport by the island hosts....I can only assume in a hearse because that is what you would need if you tried to land there. 2)Eleuthra: I have been to Eleuthra the past three years and the Cocodimama Resort has been closed all three years, yet it continues to be mentioned in the guide (ppB71). Locals say it hasn't been operating for more than five years. To list the Cotton Bay golf course as open for play (ppB73) is a joke. It is a cow pasture. After travelling 45 minutes by car (the last five over roads that required a HumVee to safely pass on) to play golf there, the clubhouse was falling down and there was no one there. I spoke to some people in a beachfront home who told me that other than grass cutting twice a year, the golf course hasn't been maintained since it was bought by a Columbian twenty years ago.

Very good to have but could be better by A Customer from FL USA
Pros: good start to doing homework, color, some good ads Cons: too much on non bahamas for me, inconsistency in data Review: If going to Bahamas this is nice to have. Seems to be a bit inconsitent on data provided for each airport and location and hard to make any hotel decisions from what is presented. This book really helps you find what you want to search on the web.

Review: I've purchased the guide in the past and I thought the old format was better. The past editions had better views of the airports as seen from the cockpit as the islands are approached, which had them easier to set up for a pattern. Maybe with almost universal GPS they feel that it is no longer needed.

You need this guide when flying in the Caribbean by Brian Lloyd from Cameron Park, CA, USA
Pros: Provides necessary entry, fuel, weather, and lodging phone numbers Cons: Occasionally info about available fuel is wrong -- call ahead. Review: I moved down to St. Thomas for three years to set up a new business. I ended up flying all over the Caribbean in my Comanche and Aztec. I have purchased a new copy every year for 6 years. This book is the bible. The only other thing you need is the DOD Caribbean and South America Enroute Low Altitude chart L-5/L-6. One reviewer panned it for not having enough information. I have never found I needed more info about each island I went to. So if you are going to the Caribbean, you need this book. Period.

A must for dream pilots by Stan from Warsaw, Poland
Pros: well balanced information, useful in trip planning Cons: ageing photos Review: Each time I visit the region I buy the B&CPG. The 2008 edition was in my pilot bag for the trip. It doesn't replace the Jeppesen's trip tool, but complete it in a very useful way. I wish that the authors have another opportunity to re-visit the islands to replace the pictures with new ones of better quality. Maybe a professional photographer wouldn't be a bad idea. Otherwise, the info is quite up to date, but not always as it is the case of FWI.

Not worth the money by A Customer from Elizabethton, TN
Pros: Covers most of the islands. Cons: Not as thorough as expected. Review: [This review refers to the 2007 edition.] Most if not all information in this book can be found online. I was under the impression that it came with all the carribean approach charts but it only has a few of them. It would be better to search online and buy a Jeppesen Caribbean Trip Kit. Which is what I do from now on.
